They are on top of the scheduling, and the follow up calls are a very nice touch. I was the sole provider for my loved one, so it has helped me to have time to earn a living.

I would have liked them to be more concerned about the people than the money and to have qualified staff. The service didn't last long enough for us to know what the caregivers could or couldn't do. They ended the service for whatever reason.

They really try hard to please us, I feel like the owner genuinely cares about making us happy. Sometimes it is very stressful, but it's not necessarily how the company is run. There have been some instances when someone has came in late, we were hoping for the same person. There were some frustrating issues going on.

They are very reliable, dependable, and the caregivers have been very good. They don't leave until the next person gets there. It has been helpful to me because I still work. They have a notebook which they are very good about writing in so that I know what is going on.

I would recommend that someone interview the specific caregivers assigned to the relative prior to them working with that patient. Express to them your main concerns on why you are hiring them and what your expectations are. I do not live near my parents, so they basically provide support for my father so he can have a break. We haven't had them quite a month yet. We've had some issues with being on time.

One thing I would say is that the companions that come seem to really care about what they are doing and have a lot of experience. For me, it has been great, and for my mother, it is the same. For me, it has helped me increase my life outside my mother because I felt like I couldn't have a life or any time to do anything else. It has also helped my mom because it has provided more care and patience than I was able to give her.

They do what they are supposed to do and I do not feel that I can expect any more than that. I cannot walk or get out of bed, so they get me up and get me to the bathroom, get me dressed, and fix my breakfast.

I have a good nurse and stuff, but for some reason, I do not understand why I have to call them when I am going to the VA. They hired them so they should know. They have helped me a whole lot. They are here to help me so that is worth a million dollars to me because I am all by myself.

The caregiver we had from BrightStar Care was very sensitive, attentive, and conscientious. They tried to be involved in the situation. We only had the services for a short time. It was easier having someone there for my loved one so my family didn't have to be there.

I was disappointed in the level of service provided by BrightStar, and I would definitely not recommend this company, especially if your loved one has dementia. Because my mother could not remember what tasks she needed help with, she got very little assistance. I had provided a list of tasks, including 3 times a week bathing, throwing out old food, checking that she had taken her medications, making sure she locked her door, was wearing her medical alert necklace, light housekeeping, etc., but this list was not given to the various aides that showed up. (During this period when BrightStar was coming six days a week, a cleaning company refused to clean her bathrooms because of smeared feces on the floors.) My mother would dismiss the aides after half an hour, saying she “couldn't think of a thing for them to do.” (This was not adequately communicated to me. I only found out when I installed nanny cams in the home.) The company went through a series of bookkeepers, and as soon as one had learned the ropes, she was gone, only to be replaced by someone who had to learn the process for submitting invoices and logs to the insurance company for reimbursement. We chose this company because they would agree to a 2 hour minimum – my mother's preference – instead of the standard 3 or 4 hour minimum other companies require, but I regret the choice. After my mother moved to assisted living, the company without authorization debited money from my mother’s bank account to pay for past services that I had hesitated to pay without receiving the logs for those dates. (The insurance company won’t reimburse without receiving the daily logs.) I had requested the daily logs for those invoices, and the company never sent them to me. Imagine my surprise when I notice over $800 taken from the account without either my knowledge or consent!

The only thing I would change was that I wish there was only one person my mom saw, instead of seeing someone different every week, because she has dementia. I understand because of availability that that's how it's going to be, but it makes it harder for my mother. BrightStar Care is very flexible and they help me. The nurses are always engaged and call if my mom doesn't answer the door or her phone. BrightStar Care definitely helps me and my family out a lot. I'm actually active duty military and I'm across the U.S. Knowing there's a second person besides my father to help my mother helps because My mom likes to go shopping and get out of the house. It helps to have another female. It's another set of hands and eyes to help.

BrightStar Care sent somebody here without my knowledge. My regular nurse had to go home early and they sent me another caregiver without telling. The company knows that I was not happy about this. BrightStar Care made my life easier because I did not have worry about my loved one while I was at work since they were caring for him.
