Went to a Catholic funeral mass & the priest blessed the coffin with a smoky incense. Why is this done?

In the Catholic faith, incense is often used at ceremonies and services.

Many see it as a symbol of prayers or the soul of the deceased person rising. It is also used as a sign of reverence and dedication, used at funeral services to honor and commemorate the dead.

Lots if symbolism in Catholic faith. I believe the metaphor is in Psalms about prayer "rising like incense".
