Pulmicort is a corticosteroid which prevents the release of substances which cause inflammation. Symbicort is a combination steroid to reduce inflammation and bronchodilator to relaxe muscles in the airway. Both are maintenance inhalers used to prevent asthma attacks, not rescue inhalers used to treat an attack already in progress. I have been on both, and for me Symbicort worked better at preventing attacks because it works in two different ways as opposed to just the corticosteroid in Pulmicort. So if inflammation is the main cause of your Asthma, Pulmicort would work great, if you are like me and have airway spasms, then Symbicort might be the wiser choice.
