My husband had an AV pacemaker implanted 3 months ago. He is having discomfort in his neck, like a burning sensation. His pacemaker was put under the muscle and he complains of tightness in that area. He has mentioned this to his doctor and does not get an answer. He has not felt the same since the implant. Do you have any advice or insight?

Carolyn Strimike, N.P. and Margie Latrella, N.P. are cardiac nurse practitioners specializing in the prevention of heart disease and stroke. They have over 40 years of nursing experience in Cardiology between them. The main goal of their work is to counsel, motivate and empower women to adopt healthy lifestyle choices.

Discomfort after a pacemaker implantation is common for several weeks but should not last for months. The pacemaker may be positioned against a nerve or affecting the muscle in the area. Would recommend asking the doctor specific questions about this discomfort if you still do not get an answer would recommend speaking to another doctor.

Thanks for the response. After repeat visits to the doctor, it turned out to be a muscular issue. After doing pressure point therapy around his shoulder joint, the pain subsided. He is doing much better now.
