Sho B offered some great resources for you.

A quick internet search shows that a church in the Memphis area offered a six-week group that ended in April, but if you call, they probably know where there are other groups in your area. Church of the Holy Spirit 901-757-9140 Also listed was St. Louis Catholic Church at 901-682-6606 You don't have to have any affiliation with these churches to attend. It also looks like there are ongoing groups at Baptist Memorial Hospital Healthcare 901-767-6767.

Counselors and support group facilitators usually know each other professionally and can offer you other choices. You may also want to call local funeral homes; they sometimes have lists or know of local grief support groups.

Mothers are special people and good memories of them are a blessing.

Hi 'mikaylasmommy,' I'm sorry for the loss of your mother. I can only imagine that holidays, like Mother's day, can be especially difficult during your first year of grief. While you wait for answers from members of our community, you may find some of the following resources to be helpful during this difficult time:

  1. Your local Area Agency on Aging may be able to refer you to grief resources in your area, including a free grief counselor. You may search for Area Agencies on Aging in your region through our Senior Living Directory here: https://www.caring.com/local/area-agency-on-aging

  2. The Grief and Loss Resource Center on Caring.com may also have some useful information: https://www.caring.com/grief

  3. You may also find some support through our End of Life support group, where caregivers discuss difficult decisions and emotions involved in the before and after of losing a loved one. Connect with others willing to listen, and get support for end-of-life challenges. Learn how others are coping with grief, and post your tips and advice too: https://www.caring.com/support-groups/end-of-life

I hope some of these resources are helpful to you. Please don't hesitate to get in touch with our team if we may help you find additional resources.

Kind regards, Sho of the Caring.com Community Team

Hey, mikaylasmommy. I lost my dad in September of 2014, and I have been trying to research grief counseling options as well. One amazing resource is the Kemmons Wilson Family Center for Good Grief. They offer free one-on-one grief counseling, and they also do support groups. I have also heard wonderful things about the Samaritan Counseling Centers of the Midsouth (they do a sliding scale). Other than that, I have been compiling a list of grief support groups that I would like to share with you. I have yet to contact these groups to be absolutely sure that they are still meeting, but I found them on credible websites.
