Reviews of Grove at the Lake

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident
I already placed my father in Grove at the Lake. It’s very clean. It is in the area where my father is. They have 5 nurses for every shift. They are very attentive to their patients. They personalize and they call everybody by their first names to make them feel warm and welcome, so it is very good. He has only been there for about a week now, but everything so far is great.

I visited this facility
This is a large facility in the farthest north reaches of Illinois, drawing staff from Wisconsin as well as Illinois. It is just off of the main road, in a generally safe area bordering the business district and the residential neighborhood. Long term care and short term rehab are provided, with most residents being long term. A number of residents have both medical and psychiatric diagnoses. Some attend day programs off-site. The staff is able to manage difficult medical conditions as well, based upon multiple available reports. There is a nice but small outdoor sitting area, and many residents who smoke are often outdoors. The interior common areas are small but typically clean and well maintained. As a large, busy facility, it is sometimes tough to find a quiet place outside the resident room to sit and visit. However, rooms are typically above average in size, so even in a shared room there is usually enough room to visit without feeling overly disruptive to the roommate. The building is older, so the rooms lack a warm and homelike feel and rather feel institutional for the most part. Housekeeping and maintenance are typically good though, so rooms do not appear dirty or in disrepair. Staffing is usually adequate in number to meet resident's needs with an average amount of staff turnover. The food is average and some meals do not seem appealing or tasty, but substitutes are offered if desired. Direct care staff as well as management most often demonstrate a sincere interest in resident well being and appear committed to providing compassionate care.
