I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My cousin moved into Villa at Park Ridge. One reason I chose it was because of its proximity to me. The staff members are nice, friendly, and helpful. I have positive contact with the staff. They seem to care about the people. My cousin is a vegetarian. They gave her meat, so I spoke to them, and they took care of her complaints. I like the fact that they have activities every day. They have their own staff occupational therapist. They have a nice room for occupational therapy. They serve three meals a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The building is old and aging. They need to upgrade. But I was impressed with the cleanliness.

Clean and helpful staff. Dietary goes above and beyond to encourage a picky eater. Activities also handle weekly calls since I live farther away and I couldn’t say enough about how helpful and empathetic Aaron is.

I am/was a resident of this facility

3 people crammed in 240 square foot (all with wheelchairs and walkers) bumping into each other and beds daily. Interrupted sleep and help or call lights on for hours often. Food is not always cooked mostly rice and pasta but a few times meat also. Served outdated milk curdled and moldy bread. Most nurses & CNAs great but they dont have enough stable help. Therapy is great but many patients get discharged too soon and digress. Need more therapy.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I wouldn't send my worst enemy here. After seeing my friend's care, and observing how others were cared for, I actually ended up making a state report. Currently being investigated. I'm also a CNA, and the things I observed were shocking and sickening. I witnessed patients being left soiled for entire shifts. One person was on their floor from an obvious fall, so I told the nurse. When she didn't get up, I paid attention, and the patient was left on the floor for over an hour. When they finally went to help, I could hear the staff telling the patient if he did that again, he was staying on the floor. My blood was boiling. My friend went 2 days without "eating" as someone with a feeding tube. I'd see staff deliver food trays to people obviously unable to feed themselves and just walk away. Many times I'd notice nobody went back in to actually feed them. I'd check my friend as if I was his caregiver, and end up close to tears. I found him with feces dried on his skin 3 times. He always had multiple briefs layered over each other, but was STILL so neglected the whole bed was soaked. That was every visit, I never found him dry his entire stay. He wasn't bathed the entire time, despite inquiring about it. I was told he was by staff, but he told me they washed his armpits/privates while kept in bed. They only did that once. They told him a full shower would be too difficult/take too much time. Code word for they didn't want to transfer someone who needed a hoyer. Once placed in his bed, he didn't get out of it until he was transferred. He had infections from improper care, skin breakdown, and bed sores forming in multiple spots. I smelled strong stale urine in not just his room, but just walking past other rooms. The CNA staff were like nothing I've seen. Openly mean to residents unable to report them, always sitting somewhere on their phones, loudly talking trash about residents in common areas, etc. The nurses were even worse. Either always behind a desk on their phone, or not even there. I waited over 3 hours to talk to a nurse after she "stepped off the floor" and didn't come back. And I could still go on. The real kicker? He was only there for 3 weeks.

I cannot stress enough how horrible our experience was at Villa Park Ridge. Our loved one went in alert, oriented and stable for physical therapy to increase her mobility. 2 weeks later we had to have her admitted to ICU with severe c-diff, dehydration, unable to swallow, almost comatose and had to be intubated to breath and a nasal gastric tube inserted for feeding. If you leave any compassion at all for your family member, you will steer clear of this place.

I am writing this pertaining to the death of my brother who contracted Covid 19 at the facility. My problem is with the corporate staff there. I was not informed of his entering the hospital until 2 days after admission. When I contacted the Villas about his death I was told "we didn't have to contact you, it's not our responsibility". I have called the Villas on 2 other occasions and one email about his personal effects and was told both times they would contact me back. To this day I have not received a return call. At other times while he was a resident there I went downstairs and complained about urine in the hall ways, mold on the air conditioning unit and his lost clothes. We brought numerous shirts for him and did as requested, putting his name in the neck in magic marker. All were lost. I am still waiting to hear back about his 14k gold herringbone necklace and a hand carved walking stick from Venezuela that he cherished. When he first entered the facility we took up a black leather lift chair for him and that ended up missing. I would NEVER refer this place to anyone.

This facility is not a place that you would want your family member to live! Especially since is has become "VILLA at PARKRIDGE"!!! The quality of care and food is very poor! They are only about the money, not the residents! The staffing is not sufficient for proper care of residents! I would only give them 1/2 star and that is because there are still a few (very few, due to them getting rid of so many staff when they took over) good staff members! Currently looking for another facility!

I visited this facility

Bortz healthcare is very outdated and needs to be renovated completely! I wouldn't recommend anyone to bring there loved ones there for care. The management is very rude and it's all about money with them, when I walked into the receptionist area to sign in she was on her cellular phone very unprofessional she was so busy into her phone I couldn't get my questions answered. My grandmother was there for quite some time after we seen how Bortz was ran we took her out after a short period. They have activities but it was more like kiddie games the only thing I see the residents get excited about is bingo. They don't take them outside they just sit in the building all day oh by the ways it's 4 floors one elevator!!! I even thought about calling Fox 2 problem solvers because I feel so bad for the workers and residents they work them people like slaves and they can only do so much. I hope my comment helped...

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Bortz is an out-dated nursing facility. The staff is very friendly, and they do a great job; most of the time. But, The Facility always has this foul, punget smell. It looks dirty from the inside, and out. The staff has been caught stealing from residents on multiple occasions. There is a sign in/out book that is hardly ever used. It isn't hard to sneak in/out of the facility. Residents aren't suppose to leave, but I doubt if anyone would notice if a resident was missing for quite a while. The food seems to be mediocre; I've seen worst. The facility needs a complete renovation, or needs to close the Ypsilant location completely. The Facility is cost effective, but if you take two steps inside the building, you'll see why. The facility also lacks the amenities of other cost-effective facilities. On the other hand, Bortz offers alot of programs for the residents to take part in. They have Church vans to take them to and from Church. They put signs on the doors for birthday celebrations. Families can pretty much come at any reasonable time of the day. It's alot of good things associated with Bortz, but I believe the cons outweigh the pros.

This place is dirty, smelly, unsupervised residents, outdated equipment. Not any place I would leave anyone, even a dog
