I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My sister is in Central Island Healthcare. She's getting the care that she needs. She is on the floor where everybody is in a wheelchair, and mainly in bed. They have a big screen TV where they show some movies. I've seen nicer ones, but they didn't have rooms, and they would not take my sister. This one is working out OK. They change the bed every day. The nurses and the aides are nice. They have the laundry room. They do laundry every day and they bring it back on the hanger. This facility is good for rehab. She doesn't participate in any activity, but they have a nice calendar. The food looks good, but she has everything minced. The place needs some updating. It's very expensive if I have to pay out of my pocket, but for the money it's worth it.

The room is a solid 85 degrees. They can’t regulate it. Interaction with staff is pretty negligible. I asked for some water, they tell me I’m on fluid restriction. I’ve had 16 fluid oz of fluid all day. It is now 9.45 pm. At 8 pm, I was told no water until after 11. I told the nurse that because of the temp in this room, that I’ll dehydrated. I’m a dialysis patient and I need my medications. Been here since about 5:30, with no medication given. My BP is going up by the minute. This place shouldn’t be open to patient that need care! If I could give 0 stars i would!

My Dad has been in this facility for long term care for several months now and we've been very happy with how well he has been cared for throughout each and every day. The nurses and aids have all been very kind and caring. They are attentive and on top of any concern we have. Very clean

My dad is at Central Island Healthcare and, thus far, they've been very, very helpful. His social workers are very engaged with us and letting us know his status. His RN case manager has been very helpful too with anything we need or any kind of services we need. Everybody's been very nice with the other assisted living facilities that they call and require information from. Central Island Healthcare also called me to make sure it was OK to speak to everybody, which was very nice of them. Because of COVID, I can't go there and visit him, but I do FaceTime calls with him every other day, and he seems relatively happy, considering the situation, and the staff has been very, very nice. Honestly, I have not had a single negative thing said about them. Everybody has been very, very pleasant. He also says the food is OK, but he is a person who is pretty easy to please. He says most of the things are kind of just alright. The facility is right off of the main road and it's more like a hospital from what I recall, just from the outside of it. It is definitely expensive for what it is. It is much more expensive than assisted living, like it's almost double. The value of money could be better.

Communication service terrible No one picking phones no one calling back when you leave massage. Rehabilitation service terrible , my father is there for rehabilitation after the 3 weeks of hospitalization he’s there 2 weeks already since then he was taken twice for rehabilitation instead of everyday like he should. In my opinion they are giving him some medication to make him loopy . He’s not the Same person I was transferring from hospital to rehab . They didn’t bring him for his Cardiologyst appt. because they didn’t scheduled on right time and didn’t even inform me on out that knowing I’m the contact person for every single issue they have regarding my father they were aware that I’m going to be there for that appt. the case manager doesn’t do her job at all I’m calling everywhere to schedule the doctors appt. . The aides who work there very unprofessional so just rethink about this facility if you or your family member have to go rehab center after hospital . All those facilities are horrible , they charging a lot of money from insurances and they don’t do the job they really should . Especially right now during the Covid they know families can’t come and see what’s going on so they doing what they want. Rooms apparently horrible ac/ fans on full speed . Waiting time for aide or nurse to came and help you is from 2-3 hours.

My mother is at Central Island Healthcare. They're wonderful. The staff members are incredible and amazing. They're all marvelous wonderful human beings, from the nurses, to the aides, and to the doctors. I can't believe what they do and what they put up with. The place is wonderful. It is not fancy, but they are taking very good care of my mother.

Extremely disappointing. My Dad was there for over a month. After a brief hospital stay he was weak & needed to gain strength to use his walker again. He was left in a diaper and set out in the hall all day. There was constant noise with alarms and unanswered call bells going off as well as music blasting at times. The PT staff that I met were all good, but there wasn't enough for him to make progress. Instead of helping him up to get used to using toilet, the aids just changed him when necessary & not always in a timely manner. There was one male aid who was wonderful, but was unimpressed by the treatment from the others I saw. He had been on antibiotics which were not even necessary & they stopped giving him probiotics which resulted in him getting c-diff. This weakened him even more. A downward spiral experience. To make it all more frustrating their phone system doesn't work - no one there has a direct line or voicemail so sometimes it takes hours to reach someone at their desk. If you have a choice, don't use this place.

I was appalled at the lack of compassion and respect for the elderly in this facility. My mother in law was neglected., left in a chair with urine on her for hours. The rehab unit was okay depending on who the PT was. Bells constantly ringing with no one to attend to. I saw aides sitting reading papers. disappearing on their shifts, and no personalities towards the patients or the family members. And here is the clincher. If your 100 days or whatever specified coverage you have, they will send them home or you pay an enormous price per day. Its disgusting. They would not release my mother-in-law before the 100 days stating she was not ready, but once the 100 day mark came, out the door she went. Disgusting.

Annoyumous family member.

Beyond saddened. This facility has shown a wide variety of disappointments. The patients are sadly uncared. My gripes range on multiple staff levels and wish the administration had more of a care for patients and their families.

Maximize stay time to maximize $$$ seems to be prevaisive attitude with little or no concern for patient welfare. No doctors or even RN's available for onsite for emergencies. Poor communication with supervising relatives, almost evasive. No staff available onsite to speak with. No one seems to be in charge.

My father spent 2 months at central island after a toe amputation. I had never had to look into rehab for anyone and hoped I was making the right choice for his care. I have to say that I now know I did. The nursing staff, aids, and therapists are great. The therapists really knew how to push him to get him to do what he needed to recovery, The aids really work hard and took great care of him, as far as bathing, getting dressed, etc. They all played a big part in my fathers recovery. He was not the most cooperative when he arrived and by the time he left had made a great improvement along with new friendships. The office staff was also very helpful with anything i needed to discuss with regard to insurance or anything else. The facility is kept very clean. If i ever need to have someone go to rehab i know i will without a doubt send them to Central Island, i know they will get the care they need.

Central Island is pretty clean. The staff is OK. Parking is terrible. They have valet parking for you, so that helps, but you can never just go there and park yourself. I think the food is OK. It looks OK. My father eats it. They have a lot of activities. They play bingo all the time, and they also take them on trips once a month. The only problem I have with them is if I call them, they do not seem to answer the phone.

my grandmother stayed in this facility. the nurses sent her home with terrible bed sores without letting us know. they should have never sent her home with them with out us letting her know because now she can barely move. it is my impression that they never told us just to get her out of the facility, as we had just began to appeal her date of release and were considering legal action. in addition, the aid never had her file when they held meetings and wrote everything down on small scraps of paper.

Wow! What an experience. We didn't know what to expect when we sent our mother there, but I truly don't believe that she could have have a better short term rehabilitation stay anywhere. The staff we're so compassionate and the rehabilitation department are true experienced professionals who know exactly what they are doing. They clearly explained to us our goals when she first got there, and day by day they worked to get to that point. after 3 weeks, Mom went home on her own strength, and is thriving at home. Thank you to all the staff who work at this facility. I would recommend it to anybody.

I visited this facility

Before you select this place for recovery and rehab visit first Just because its across the street from the hospital, know that it is NOT affiliated with the hospital. Upon arriving here with my relative who had a hip replacement, the atmosphere was depressing. It was sad to see elderly pp in their wheel chairs just hanging out and no one answering them. One man wanted to go into his room and was just ignored. My relative was here for a week and like the other person wrote. My relative also experienced diahrea, could not eat and his white blood cells went up. Thank JAH he did not have C-diff but did have a touch of pneumonia. The attitude of some of the staff was unprofessional. They did not know how to move my relative out the wheelchair and put my relative in the bed. So that asked us to wait outside the room. I told them no. And then the nurse said she needed to go get someone to move my family member in the bed. My relative said the thereapy was great. I must add this. They put my relative in a room with two other people upon arrival. Four television in a room and no personal speakers. How is anyone someone supposed to hear the program they are watching. PRAY AND MAKE SURE YOU CHECK ON YOUR FAMILY MEMBER EVERDAY NO MATTER WHERE YOU MAY PLACE THEM FOR RECOVERY OR LONG TERM CARE. IF YOU FIND A PLACE WITH 24HR VISITING HOURS. MAKE SURE THEIR VITALS ARE CHECKED EVERYDAY.

I would give them less stars if I could. My mom developed diarrhea and a fever. The aids knew, as she can not go to the bathroom on her own, but never communicated this information up to the nursing staff. My mom ended up in the hospital with a white blood cell count in the critical range due to C diff. I am grateful to the hospital staff for saving her. As a person not in the healthcare field I feel that they should have picked up on the fact that she was ill instead of me going to them repeatedly to get her care.

This nursing home unlike others stood out because of their great staff. The staff were always friendly and willing to do almost anything to ensure their residents have a comfortable stay. Also what made the staff so great was how quickly they came when you needed assistance. An instance when this was true was my most recent trip there to visit my father. I had just got there and my father wanted to go out to the court yard for some fresh air but needed assistance getting from the bed to his wheelchair. I'd say not even three minutes had passed from when he hit the assistance button to when they had him in his chair. This facility would definitely get the highest grade possible for their staff and the fact that they also had a rehab facility on site with weights and other workout equipment to help my father in his recovery process. In conclusion I would recommend this nursing home to anyone because of how they make your stay as pleasant as possible.
