I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My sister lives in Winfield Woods, and has been well cared for by an efficient and loving staff, for many years now. I know that I am able to contact them no matter what time of day, and learn what my sister's health and social status is. There are daily, creative activities which offer both individual and group stimulation. Bingo, Karaoke, Sing alongs, Plays and crafts are a few activities offered. Folks from the community also entertain and become involved. But if a resident doesn't want to participate, that's ok too. (Yet the staff will followup with the reason why, assuring the resident's welfare.) Residents are treated with respect. My sister has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar illnesses. Our family has seen many psychiatric nursing homes during these past 64 years. We thank God for the care she is receiving at Winfield Woods.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I would highly suggest, if you love and care about your elderly family member, NOT to send them to this place. My grandfather died in this home. Despite the fact my father, Uncle, and Aunt visited him a few months prior to his passing, all of them giving Winfield their contact information, neither of them had been informed of his passing. Instead, a distant relative in Pennsylvania received a phonecall and the news had eventually reached my Dad, Uncle, and Aunt. The institute had him cremated without our knowledge or consent, even though Grandpa intended to be buried next to his second wife. So, as I said, if you care about your loved one, I WOULD NOT bring them here.

I visited this facility

Maybe my expectations are higher than others, but the state of Illinois should revoke the license of this facility. I went to visit it for one of my parents and I would never ever ever have put them in the facility . Dark, musty, no working air conditioning and it looked like it had not been remodeled and 50 years.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Winfield Woods Healthcare Center is a wonderful place. I get excellent care all the way around. I would recommend it to anybody. I rest easier knowing that my near-90 father is well taken care of and well provided for. He is in very good hands out there. The hospital is less than a mile away, so if something were to happen, he would be right there. The residents don’t seem to have any complaints with the food. His room is incredibly clean. I have never smelled anything obnoxious there. It is the cleanest place I’ve ever been in. There is a clinical psychologist there that sets up everything. My father just got released from the physical therapy end of it, so now his program will change monthly. It’s a wide array of things, depending on what your social and physical needs are. They have a huge gym there, and they have a wide array of different professional people, psychologists, and psychiatrists. They come and go from there from Central DuPage Hospital, so they have everything covered. I have not one negative thing to say about them. From the time you walk through the door to the time you leave, people recognize you and ask you if you need help finding anything. It has been a totally positive experience for me.

I visited this facility

This is a facility that provides long term care for persons with chronic mental illness. It is situated in a safe, park-like setting; so much so that first time visitors are certain they are going the wrong way because the setting is unique and set apart a good number of blocks from any major residential or business area. There is plentiful outdoor space both in the front and the rear of the building that includes a large patio area where the staff will barbeque for special functions. Plantings are also done with residents and displayed on the patios seasonally. The interior of the building does not appear impressive as it is an older building, but it is clean and well maintained. Efforts have been made so that common areas are sufficient to meet residents and family needs, as most residents spend the majority of time out of their rooms. The rooms are generally above-average in size which allows for residents to bring in items from home. Most rooms are shared with very few privates available on occasion. The food is average to above average in presentation and tastiness; the chef does make and effort to meet individual preference. The staff is skilled and committed to the mission of the facility to provide excellent care; there is above average staff retention and tenure for this type of setting. As psychiatric oriented facilities go this is easily one of the nicest options.
