I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom was admitted to this facility from the hospital for rehab. She was weak and needed OT, PT, and nursing care. Their care team was a joke. One meeting right after she got there and then no more communication from them. Their Covid 19 communications were right on time and kept you informed, unfortunately that does not cross over to the patient care or the staff. Her PT person didn't know she was being discharged that day, She thought she had another week to work with her. OT and PT staff was excellent dispite working in a uncommunicative facility. It is an older facility which was the least of its problems. My mom was there for 30 days. With the exception of one or two nurses and 1 CNA the care was horrible. First the nurse button didn't work so even when she pressed it no one came because it didn't wor\k. Finally got that working but it still took 30 to 40 minutes for a response from anyone. She complained of knee pain and finally 3 days before her discharge they took an zray. Of course it showed nothing , but after discharge I took her to an ortho doc and she had a blazing infection behind her knee which was causing all the pain. Last but not least the day of discharge, not a single person helped me get her out to the car. I thought that they had to escort you out in a wheelchair. Food was fair., rarely did anyone come and see if she wanted to do anything other than sit in her room by herself. Find another facility for your loved one, I know I will if I ever need one again. I spoke to director of the facility a couple of days later and told her all that happened. You know where that probably went.

My grandmother went to rehab at ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation for a week. She had a great experience. They took care of her very well and they communicated very well with me the entire time. Each person that engaged with her like the activities specialist, the social worker, and the nurses, all communicated very well with me and kept me updated. It helped a lot because I didn't have to reach out to them and find out information. That was very helpful and they were very thorough with everything so we had a really good experience.

Provider Response

Thank you for sharing Morgan! We are glad to hear you were happy with your grandmother’s care and that our staff has worked so well with your loved one to get them back on the road to recovery.

I would like to start my saying most of the aides are wonderful. They develop relationships with the families and wonderful. That is were it ends. Communication doesn't exist. the story is very long but summarize during this Pandemic we have received no information. We were getting window visits and one day it stopped with no explanation. No one answers the front desk. We have had no communication with how my mom is doing for the last 3 WEEKS!!! I have no idea if she is safe, healthy, eating, nothing! In the past I have called the facility and they tell you they will be in touch, that is a lie, I have called corporate and they tell the facility to call. After the first outbreak in the facility, they moved my mom to another wing, which was fine, but they didn't tell us first, which I believe is illegal. They didn't have PPE for their staff and weren't protecting anyone in the building. SO many residents past and it just breaks my heart for all the families that are receiving this same treatment. All I want is to get communication about how my mom is and be able to work together for the sake of my family. I have ideas for them, but all they care about is money not that these are real people!

When I first arrived, I noticed a cacophony of alert bells chiming for the whole of my visit. It regularly would take well over 15 min for anyone to react to a patient call. My father has reported up to an hour response time. This was not limited to the hallway where I had a personal stake (where my father was). I had asked "what happens when someone is having an emergency?" to which I got no response. While many of the therapists, nurses and even a few of the CNAs were excellent, the systems and administration of the facility set everyone up for failure. I know that many would blame the handful of under-performers, stressed-out family and under-functioning individuals with frequent care needs for the stressful environment. I think that better information management and transparency, more staffing at the CNA level and support for those workers would help this facility and everyone in it to not hate their daily existence there. Though a few of the staff are (much-appreciated) beacons of brightness and resilience, overall, the misery is apparent.

I wouldn't rate Manorcare at all. The place was terrible and so were the staff members.. They didn't get him out of bed that much. He got physical therapy, but they stopped having it for him. The food was not good. His room was not good either; it was always dirty. I didn't like the place. The dining area was just a big open room, and they didn't even have TVs in the rooms. I just didn't care for it. The hallways were maintained, but the rooms weren't. It took a long time for the nurses to react to you when they pulled the bell. Half the time the bell was not even near the patient, and sometimes it was put away in a drawer. Every time I went there my boyfriend was lying in bed. He was never sitting up. He had sores on his butt.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Having a mother in a similar facility. In a million years I never dreamed I would incur the same circumstances. Placed here at Manor Care-Pike Creek was alarmingly depressing to me at first. Although necessary for my recovery I had a preconceived connotation. About nursing homes, I felt all nursing homes were substantially substandard, under staffed. And smelled of urine and other horrific unidentifiable oders. I was truly surprised. The staff here greeted me with warmth and such care. They truly were concerned about my recovery and care. Every now and then the halls were filled with laughter and sounds of children visiting family. The nursing staff attentive to my every need. As well as the CNA's I never had to wait or ask twice for anything. Every one went out of their way to make my stay comfortable. I really cannot express how truly unappreciative I am to evetyone. If I named one I would have to name evetyone. From the Director, Social Workers, Receptionists, CNA's RN's, Dietary, Physical Therapy, OT, NP's, Doctors and a special Thanks to Christina and Nicole! I love you so much! Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. My sincerest gratitude. Margaret Thompson

I visited this facility

My father has been there one day--they haven't given him lunch, a walker, or the wheelchair he requested. He has no phone. I call and the phone rings and rings and rings. He'd rather be back in the hospital. This is abysmal.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I went to the facility after 5 surgeries to clean out a bed sore on my lower back, I was supposed to be receiving wound care and getting rehab for walking, my wound began to stink, the nurse said all wounds smell, my requests for a doctors visit were ignored, finally after weeks a culture was taken, my wound was infected, they gave me ten weeks of antibiotic which did nothing, I was taken by ambulance to the hospital and required 2 more surgeries for the wound which had spread. Afterwards I went to someone else facility where I relived excellent wound care.

From the very beginning to the last day of my mom being here was awesome. The staff Jade, Mackensie, and the nutrition staff were amazing. Due to my moms illness, she has stayed at other facilities, but I am thankful for Manor Care. Rooms and patients bathrooms were cleaned. Very caring doctors and socialworker staff communicated on everything that involved my mom. I would recommend a love one staying here. The only thing that needed improvement is the food served to residents. My mom wouldn’t eat the meals because food was not appealing, and she only ate the tuna everyday. They have a very caring attitude towards the residents .

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My Mom was at Manor Care/PC a couple of years ago. She had fallen at her Residence and was taken there. Was a great experience for her and our family. Her room was huge! The floors, bedding and bathroom were always kept clean and well stocked. She said she enjoyed her meals and was given plenty to eat. Her nursing care was great. Steve and Vern treated her as if she was their family. She also received physical therapy while there. Excellent. When she got there, she couldn't even lift her legs up on the bed. After she was there for a few weeks, she was strong enough to pull her legs up. Mr. Records is excellent at what he does. With a little assistance, she was able to walk down the hall on her own. There was one problem while she was there but that was nipped in the bud immediately. I cannot say enough positive things about Manor Care! I would choose to go there in a heartbeat if I needed that kind of care.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother-in-law did not like Manorcare Health Services - Pike Creek at all because she is very active and this facility is more for people who really need a lot of attention. The rooms were OK. Overall, it was an OK facility. The people there were not very helpful. I did not like them at all because they would not tell me information I needed to know. The staff need to be more polite and customer oriented.

My daughter and I like ManorCare, but I don’t know if my wife will like it. The meals were good, and the facility, rooms, and cleanliness were great. It was spotless. The people all seemed very happy, and the staff was very friendly.

My wife was in Manorcare at one time because she had broken her leg; she was there for therapy. The hospital recommended this to us. She was mostly there for therapy, but their care was passable. Their rooms were all right and roomy enough. Their food was not as good as the other facility. They're large in terms of size, but I like the other facility more than this one.
