I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I was so nervous to transition my dad into a "nursing home" because all the stories I have heard from my friends. He was at another facility for only 2 weeks and they wanted to discharge him. It was a Friday and I had no idea what to do or who to call. A friend referenced me to call Citadel and now I know why. Megan took my phone call that Friday night and I swear she spent the whole evening with me and my family to help us. It was a night and day experience compared to the rehab center he was at. I wish we brought him here in the first place! They made the transition so easy for my dad and I. Everyone is like my family now, when I come in not only do they care and keep me updated on my dad but they also care about me and how I am doing. The nursing aides go above and beyond for my father in ways I couldn't have even imagined. I am so incredibly thankful for my Citadel family. If you couldn't tell I HIGHLY recommend this place!

My mother stayed here after a fall at home. She fell in love with the staff and the facility and truly feels as the facility is her home. We are truly grateful for the care that they have there. The staff was compassionate, professional, and very responsive. The facility was very clean, comfortable and attractive. Very light colors and airy. The nurses provided outstanding attention to detail and support. In every way we were over the moon about the care at Citadel and cannot say enough!

Hard to put into words how gratefull I am to the Citadel. My neighbor and best friend stayed here for her rehab. It’s small and quant , every time she needed help or we needed something someone was eagerly there to help. The therapists were great, they didn’t mind that I’d join in in some therapy sessions. They actually taught me a thing or two! The compassion and care that EVERY STAFF showed was incredible. These people here truly do care! Highly highly recommend. The kitchen staff went above and beyond and the food actually wasn’t so bad! They’d always offer me something while I was there.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I stayed here for a few weeks following my cardiac procedure. Overall it was a much better experience than I expected. Staff was very helpful and thoughtful. I basically had the same 2 nurses follow me throughout my stay and they knew me better than I knew myself. I would highly recommend anyone considering rehab to go here!

I am/was a resident of this facility

I came to Citadel for cardiac rehab and cannot say enough about it. The social worker in the hospital told me it had been rennovated with new ownership so I was excited to see the change as I was previously there when it was Manor care. The facility exceeded my expectations. The staff was so wonderful and I cannot say enough about them. The nurses were on top of my care and when I pressed the call button there was someone there within a minute to help me. When they say excellent care extraordinary people they truly mean it!

We use to send my father to Manor Care for respite for 4 days at a time, twice a year. The last two time he came home, all of his clothing was soaked with urine as were the clothes that he was wearing when he came home. My father is 89 with Parkinson's and Dementia. But he gets around with a walker and is able to use a urinal and bathroom with the aid of his walker, alone. The first few times he went to Manor Care for respite were great. he came But now that my father's dementia is worse. My sister and I came to the conclusion that for four days they just let him sleep and marinate in urine. Also not the last time bet the time before, when we dropped him off the head nurse was so rude and nasty,

I am a friend or relative of resident

I cannot say enough good things about this place! My grandpa had a stroke back in September, very severe. We was in the ICU for a month, then at another long term care facility, which was horrible. Then he was moved to Manor Care in Wilmette. At the time, he was still not breathing, eating or walking on his own. He was originally on the second floor, and most nurses there took excellent care of him (most, not all). After a month, he was moved to first floor, and it got even better. First of all, he was offered a private room, which was incredible, considering that he only has public aid, and all other places that we went to had 3 or 4 people per room. It was always clean. The physical therapy that he got there was incredible. In 2 months that he was there, they got him up and walking, even without a walker! They got him off of the million tubes that he had in his body. He just left a week ago, and it feels like he was reborn at the place. I do not know what it is like for permanent residents there, probably not great, like at any other nursing home, but as a rehab facility, I think it is one of the best. Again, this is strictly judging by going to other places for an hour, but even that was enough to see the difference. It took them 2 months to transform a person who was almost a vegetable back to a pretty healthy and active individual. My whole family is extremely happy with the care he got there and we are grateful to everyone, especially the head of therapy - Veerla.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I have visited other nursing homes in a volunteer capacity. I give ManorCare Health an average rating of 3. I felt that staff were adequate in number and the majority of workers that I spoke with were quite pleasant. However, certain personal experiences relayed to me by my grandmother disturbed and angered me. I attribute this to inexperienced, young staff that were not concerned with the needs, pain, and frankly, embarrassment that my grandmother expressed. I do not attribute this to an overall lack of quality of the facility, as her complaints regarding her treatment were redressed. I also think that the feeling of hopelessness and dread of a repeat experience were remedied after the particular staff member was instructed to be more empathetic. With regards to the amenities, I feel that they were average. The rooming desires of my grandmother were eventually met after some shuffling of chairs and reorganization of the room. She was paired with a congenial room mate for some time, but was eventually placed by her lone self. I feel that she enjoyed her time with the room mate, and would have been well served if placed with another woman of a similar age and friendliness. The facilities were very typical of a nursing home, characterized by long, grey halls, a community room with a television, a covered porch area. She was in the nursing home for approximately two weeks. I feel that her relief in leaving the facility is typical of any elderly individual facing possible incapacitation.

My Mom is at this facility which she has been in a few since she broke her hip in December and the Hospital never elevated her foot so she developed a foot Ulcer. The care is Wonderful along with the Staff and Doctors. This is the 3rd Facility she has been at and so far I am very happy with it. The last two other facilities my mom had fallen and one made my mom cry. Manor care really cares about there patients. I would love to win the I Pad so I can do somethings with my mom since we do not know when she will be home. It has been a very slow process due to poor circulation in her legs now. But, the I Pad can help her with reading and watching things since she is almost blind in one eye this will be up close for her. KT

My experience was really good. The staff is very welcoming and nice. Although sometimes it feels there should be more employees helping out the residents. There are many times my aunt needs something and they take quite some time to respond. They have valet parking which is something I thought was very convenient. The quality of the workers is great. Everyone is always so friendly. There are 3 floors I believe but the building itself is not too big and quite small in my opinion. It is also a very clean and neat place. The washrooms are always clean and never dirty. I have been to other facilities but I really like this one.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My 92 year old mother spent a week at ManorCare after being discharged from the hospital. While the physical, occupational and memory therapy she received was very good I was disappointed by other aspects of her stay. My major disappointment is that her personal hygiene matters were seen to by young men. This was humiliating for my mother. When I expressed my concerns to the staff they indicated that this was just the way things were. The other complaint I had was that my mother's roommate had a pain disorder that would make her cry out in agony during would care which happened twice a day for about 20 minutes per session. Hearing these cries of anguish was very stressful for my mother. I was shocked that no one bothered to wheel her or help her move (she was self ambulatory but needed supervision) to the commons area during this time. I expressed this concern to the director but nothing was done. I felt that my mother had received more personal attention and been afforded more dignity at another facility during an earlier stay. The physical building was on par with other nursing homes. A small front garden with a seating area was a plus
