I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

This place is so dirty and disgusting the staff is awful and especially the nurses my friend/client can not get out of bed to use the bathroom so she is dehydrating herself so she doesn’t have to call for help and when they do finally come to help her a half hour later they leave her on the bedpan for another half hour and now she has a rash between her legs and she sometimes bleeds from her butt today makes 3 weeks since she has been there in bed and they won’t take her out and another thing is she is not getting her regular medication and she is very ADHD and has not had that medication for as long as she has been there she has metal rods coming out of her foot and they are barely giving her any pain medication something really needs to be done about this the sooner the better

Provider Response

Dear Pcard, I am sorry you feel this has occurred with your client. I assure you, there are multiple team members that engage in each of our residents’ care on a daily basis. Our passionate team members are committed to ensuring our residents are cared for and encouraged to maintain as much independence as they are capable of, while at the same time, partnering with each resident to provide the best care possible. We have established great partnerships with multiple professionals who provide services to our residents. Our consistent goal is to work together to provide the best. I invite you to call and arrange a meet and greet with myself and/or the clinical team so that we can get to know each other and partner in providing the best plan of care for your client. I am always at the community full-time every week and make it a point to always be available for residents, family members, and partner providers. I look forward to meeting you. Sincerely, Jen Quinones, NHA Administrator

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband was at St. Martha Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare last year. He didn't like it very much. It was an older place. If you hit the light for the nurse station, nobody came for a long time, maybe an hour. I don't know why they did that and I had to tell them a couple of times. People get sick in nursing homes, the older people, and sometimes they lose control and poop their pants. My husband had done that and they hadn't changed the sheets. I went out and said I wanted his sheets changed. They went in and did it, but they didn't want to do it. The staff was nice to me but you can tell they didn't want to do what they were told to do. My husband was in a single room, only one person in the room, and I wouldn't say it's bad.

Provider Response

This review is deeply troubling to our entire team. We urge you to reach out to us so we can work together to resolve this issue. The trust you placed in our team means the world to us, and we hope to hear from you soon.

Understaffed. One staff member feeding four residents at the same time. Two CNAs taking care of a whole unit. Residents often wait and hour to and hour and a half waiting to be out to bed, waiting in their soils. Staff is always nice, they are clearly understaffed.

I went to provide a manicure for one of the residents. I thought everyone was very helpful and kind . The staff said hello to the resident I was with by name and seemed to be a caring environment. It was very clean in the areas I went through .

Overall St Martha’s is a very good nursing home. However, there are issues at times. Ninety percent of the staff is fabulous - kind, caring and compassionate. Most of the staff in all departments have a smile on their face, call residents by name, and are willing to help with anything. But with anything there are those who are only there to collect a pay check. We have found our mother lying in bed in wet clothes and linens on more than one occasion. We have found this particularly on weekends and evenings when the regular staff is not on or staffing is low. We feel that our concerns are heard and investigated but management cannot be present 24/7. Having a priest and 2 sisters there for daily mass and spiritual care is very comforting and they go above and beyond in caring for the residents. At times the cleaning staff could do a more thorough job in resident bathrooms and with the floors. The activities department does a very nice job of offering events throughout the day into the evening. It would be nice if they could get the residents outside more. There is a lovely outdoor space at the facility. The most frequent complaint from my mother is the food needs improvement. She feels the food is awful. I have seen some slight improvements in how dietary serves the food but the taste is not there. No one will care for our loved ones like us butSt Martha’s overall tries most of the time.

If your loved one needs more one-to-one care that requires skilled nursing, this facility is a very caring home that reaches out to their residents and their families. St. Martha's has a dietician that meets each resident's individual dietary requirements, which is important for your loved one at this time in their lives. We love the fact that there is an on-site Chapel, Priest & Nuns that make our loved one feel more welcome as the Church was an important part of our family life.

I have visited many nursing homes and assisted living places before, but this is truly like no other. First, it doesn't smell at all like a nursing home, so it seems very clean. Second, the staff is super friendly and attentive. Third, the health care has been incredible. Most important is the chaplain and sisters who attend to the spiritual needs of my uncle. Through daily Mass and other opportunities, my uncle is truly able to practice his faith!

My husband was at St. Martha Center for one month. It was very clean, very nice, and very friendly. The staff members were very nice and very professional. My husband liked the food; it was good. The dining area was unique and they had several dining areas, i.e., one for the general group of people and one for the rehab people. There were lots of activities too, like live music, exercises, and lectures. They did a lot to keep the people busy. Medicare paid for it, but their prices were reasonable compared to others.

DO NOT send your loved ones here !!!! This place is under staffed and the nurses are beyond rude . My grandmother was sent there from brandywine hospital, she was there for 6 days and ended up in icu with worse problems then she went in .with .THEY hardly changed her diper ,she had a massive wound on her butt that was raw . She has pneumonia now . They also lied and said her heart rate was fine and it was 30 which is beyond ok . They had her ac turned up when she always cold . Beyond other things . Never again ...

I moved my Mom from a horrible skilled facility to St Martha's while it was still owned by the Diocese. The care was wonderful. However, it took only a very short time after it was sold, for staff to be let go, care to dramatically suffer, and patients (again in the skilled unit) to receive the poorest of care. Falls, patients being left sitting in wet clothes, no assistance with meals, etc. -- complete lack of supervision and leadership. The administration has changed again and it gets no better - possibly worse! I highly suggest you find another option if this is to be your loved ones last "home".

I am/was a resident of this facility

I have been here in rehab for about 3 months now, and have been homesick. Now my time for leaving is getting very close and I cannot find the words to express how heavy my heart is. I am so sad about having to leave so many caring, helpful, fun, and loving people. There is no place like home, but for the past few months the people here have made this home for me. I will surely miss them.

have been a patient at St Martha Center two times. I was welcomed back with smiling faces when I returned the second time. The aides and nurses, especially Lea and Latoya, are friendly and made me feel comfortable throughout my stay. The therapy department was kind hearted and very helpful. The housekeeping staff kept my room clean and tidy, especially Joannie. I felt very secure going home with the help of my social worker Courtney. 5 stars in my book!!

I am a friend or relative of resident

Having had a family member in the nursing home for over 5 yrs I would say that the care was sporadic.. due to the lack of top management from the head nurse and up .. The aids , other help are ONLY as good as how they are treated and managed. The focus is on the rehab and the nursing home is the step child so to speak.. Yes it is equal to other local nursing homes which is not saying much due to the cost. but St Marthas used to be top notch.. not anymore The rehab unit is improving as focus is on rehab... makes sense that is the bread and butter of the place

I visited this facility

We have seen Saint Martha Manor in Downingtown. It is fantastic. It is a Catholic facility, and they have a chapel there. There is a priest there that says mass every day. It has a very good staff and a very good environment. It is not one of the ones that was recommended, but there is a waiting list to get in. Every place that is a good facility has a waiting list. It is very clean and very friendly. I would pick this place because it is a Catholic facility. It was recently sold by the Archdiocese, but they claimed it would still be a Catholic facility for the next three years. That is important to my father because he would like to be able to go to mass. It is friendly, and the food is good there.

I visited this facility

Saint Martha's is a Catholic Faith based community. It is a high end operation which offers top care in all directions needed for residents. Pastoral care is a very important element to this community, with services available for those able to partake. It is run with care, but like a tight ship. There are rules staff are expected to follow, but it doesn't seem like staff looks at it as such. The aides are very caring and demonstrataive with the residents. To see an aide who may not be of the same Catholic faith, make sure to get a resident to a mass is refreshing. Much nurturing is evident in this community, from the top of the admiistrative people right down throught he ranks. This is a facility I would feel most comfortable referring to anuyone who wants the feel of being at home, under the supervsion of people who show they act not only out of their profession, but from their heart!
