Absolutely horrible experience for my family. My father passed away during this COVID pandemic and I was notified by phone they didn't think he was "imminent." The supervisor's story when she called me to tell me he passed was that he had been fine a short time before he was found dead, but then changed her story and told me he was "cold and gray and I knew he was dead a while" so they didn't call an ambulance. She proceeded to prattle on about how she lives next to a funeral home and we wouldn't be allowed a funeral and her opinion on the whole situation. I really didn't need her opinions. The final application of salt in the wound was his favorite nurse told my father's long time companion that he had "confided" in her shortly before he died and that my father was angry with her. Whether this information was true or not- it served no purpose to give his loved one this burden to carry for the rest of her days. (Thanks Katie - what a super nurse you are). As a healthcare provider I am appalled by this facility. If you love your family member avoid this facility at all costs.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I was sent to Hill Haven because other nursing facilities had no people trained to work with the wound vac I was being treated with. My room was a shared room and my bed was older but worked. The mattress was quite worn and made it uncomfortable. The room was cleaned regularly and my bed sheets were changed and bed made almost every day. There was a dresser and night stand and reclining rocking chair. There's also many sitting areas and dining rooms to use for visits with friends and family. The bathroom was dated but some are new. I thought the staff was very friendly and interested in me personally and my recovery. They made me feel safe and cared for. Many said they were sad to see me leave because I was easy to work with and I consider them all friends even though the nature of the relationships is professional and we don't have any interactions outside the nursing home. The physical and occupational therapists were outstanding and instrumental in my speedy recovery. I've been very independent all my adult life and it is a very stressful situation to be completely dependent on the help of others. They were kind and understanding and most of all encouraging when I needed it most. I couldn't ask for better. The director for activities also was interested in all of us. He was in almost everyday to invite us to various activities. I really liked the bus rides we had to shop and get some personal things. There is a calendar put up in every room every month to show what activities are planned. There's things with art, music, reading, religious services and even movies to watch together. Patients that are mobile can leave the building and walk or wheel the grounds. You can leave the grounds but you have to be cleared by the PT and OT therapists first. Each room has cable TV and there's Wi-Fi available for anyone with a device for the internet. There were ample outlets in the room I was in for things like a radio. I was able to watch netflix and hulu with the Wi-Fi when there was nothing on the TV. Pets are allowed to visit if they are current on their shots. That really lights up the residents when someone visits with a pet. The food was good and tailored to my healing as well as diabetic needs. I would have no problem recommending Hill Haven based on my stay.

my dear friend came in for rehab. on his first full day the staff messed up on his meds from rochester general. this should never happen to anyone. The orders need to be read. Period

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I am so sad that my aunt is stuck at this place. As soon as you get off the elevators it smells like urine. There are residents scattered throughout the hallway. It is dimly lit and not clean. The last time I visited, there was milk spilled on the floor in the hallway when I entered and it was still there when I left. I had to edit this review to get it published but there is so much more. Please don't let your loved ones get admitted to this place.

Please don't let your family member stay here. I had a total right hip replacement and needed a little extra therapy to be able to go home. From the moment I got here,I was so upset.I begged to get the okay to finish my recovery at my aunts. Ended up staying 4 days.it'd old and incredibly understaffed.the day shift girls were kind and helped as much as they could,and I didn't ask for much help. But 2nd and 3rd shift were awful.taking repeated request'a for ice packs or pain medication. Or help getting in bed.the food was awful and it was just a depressing experience.I'm appreciative I have my aunts to go to.

I visited this facility

I was a Patient in their Short Term Rehab Unit coming in on Tuesday August 1, 2017. and being discharged on Friday August 13, 2017. In every way imaginable,from Nursing [Mimi for example] to CNA's [Takila for example], to Therapists [Lee for example], to Dietary to Housekeeping,IF I NAMED EVERYONE I'M SURE I'D LEAVE SOMEONEOFFTHE LIST SO I MENTION THESE TONAME A FEW .... OOPS I FORGOT MY EVENING TECH, JONATHAN WHO I CANNOT FORGET EITHER. IT IS TOO BAD THAT THE RATING OF ACHIEVEMENT THAT IT ONLY WENT TO A HIGH OF 5. I'D SAY THEY DESERVE A 10 MINIMUM..

Hillhaven was the worst place that I could have had my sister admitted to. I received a phone call that they discharged her without even having a discharge plan put in place. We were told that she was being discharged and she had to be picked up no later than noon because her bed was being given away. So I had to have my husband go and pick her up. When he arrived at the nursing home, they had three boxes packed up for her and discharged her without a coat in the month of February. She had brand-new clothes and they packed clothing that belonged to someone else which we did not realize until we got to Virginia and opened up the boxes and found that none of the clothes in the boxes belonged to her, so we took the boxes back to Hillhaven. I also put a call to the social worker, who no longer was working at the facility, and I left numerous messages for the director of the nursing home which were never answered. She had a brand-new coat worth over $100 and, when we got to our destination, I had to go out and buy her new clothes because she had nothing. They were friendly, but I just felt like she could have gotten better care than what she did. She did have a radio that came missing as well, and they provided her a television. When they changed her meds, she started doing much better. Once they got her medication adjusted then she started participating. When she was discharged, she was more functional than now.

My mother in law stays there. This place is nasty they barley give her any food. They don't clean her room. They did not even wake her up for her med they just shoved the pills down her mouth. They don't empty her porta potty. Do not let your loved one stay there. We are trying to get my mother in law out of there.

I am a friend of someone who is a patient there. The place is horrible. It takes between 45 to 50. Minutes for anyone to answer the call balls. There food is awful, that is if you get it. There are at least two to three items missing from the tray every time time a meal is delivered. Also, I question where they find some of there employees as on one instance two aids were speaking in my friends mothers room and one began yelling very loudly has upset she was but used vulgar language to express herself.

My mother asked for Hill Haven for short term rehab. First of all, her private room was given to someone else. She was directed to call for assistance to use the bathroom because she was a falling risk. An aide told her she could only go to the bathroom every two hours! It too up to 45 minutes for someone to help her to the bathroom. Her bed was so old. It was to high for her to get in and out of comfortably. The bottom of the bed would not raise up. She needed to keep her legs elevated for edema. It took them a week to fix her bed. She was supposed to get weighed every day for edema. My brother and I took her to the scale because she wasn't getting weighed. She went home on a day pass for the holiday and didn't earth much that day. When she went back to Hill Haven they ordered Mac and cheese about 5:00 pm. She got it at 8:00 pm! The physical therapists were the best out of the bunch.

Our experience with Hill Haven was extremely bad. My mother in law went there for rehab in December of 2014. While there she developed a cough, after several days she was seen (after much complaining) and given a cough drop every six hours. Her cough continued to worsen and I also started to ask daily for something to be done. I asked every day for a week for them to get the doctor for the rapidly worse cough, they gave her cough syrup that still did nothing. Her room was next to the nurses station and she was easily heard out there. They took no further action. Her cough was so bad that she couldn't talk, she would cough until gasping for breath which would cause her to cough again. I have been told that in her last week there she was seen six times by either the Dr or the nurse practioner, if that is the case why didn't they take further action? She requested once,just after the night nurse came on, to go to the bathroom,the night nurse herself told mom to"go in her diaper that's why she was wearing one", then she left mom without helping her to the bathroom. Last but certainly not least, she developed a bladder infection while under their care. They DID put her on a regimen of cipro and a drug used for bladder pain that turns the urine orange. Upon finishing the meds she still complained of pain while urinating and that she could tell that the infection was still there. They didn't do another thing. We brought her home on 1/10, a Saturday;she was in so much pain while peeing that I called the on call Dr at her practice. He called in cipro and we got a full dose into her that day. By Tuesday she was much worse both the bladder infection and the cough were out of control. The Dr said she had an institutional pneumonia and they straight cathed her for a sample for the lab, they didn't get urine, they got pus. A change in antibiotics was made to Backtrum and I brought her home. On Saturday morning she showed me that she was bleeding and passing clots when trying to urinare. She refused to go to the hospital for two days while continuing to bleed and pass clots, on Monday the Dr convinced to go to emergency. Of course she was kept there and is STILL there, thanks very much to Hill Haven. If they HAD seen her six times that last week then why didn't they address these two issues? I believe it is a case of neglect. Don't send your loved ones there especially if they can't stick up for themselves, both mom and I repeatedly asked for help and we were completely disregarded. Hope this saves others from horrible experiences.
