I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband is at Hillside Nursing & Rehab Center. What we like most about the place is the staff. The aides are very good, very helpful, and very kind. I see the meals that my husband has and they are very good. His room is just simple. It has a bed in it and a nightstand. It has got a bathroom with a shower. He sees a physical therapist, a speech therapist, and an occupational therapist. He says they are very good. I know they are very busy and short-staffed, but I think the floors could be cleaner and the bathroom, too. For the price, we don't care for it, but that's in every place, and Medicare is paying a portion of it.

I visited this facility

They do not give patient choice when it comes to home care or hospice. My family wanted Amedysis but was told by the social worker Kelly no that they only use one hospice. My family member has been in and out of rehab and have ALWAYS had a choice. I will be reporting this to Medicare and the state.

My mother was was in Hillside for rehab. What a big mistake!!! It started off pretty good but only got bad. She is a 85 year old woman and very tiny. She has a good mind. We could only visit Monday-Friday and had to make an appointment to see our mother. No weekend visits. Her tv went out on a Saturday afternoon and we had to call SEVERAL times to try to get it fixed. They almost killed my mother. They gave her a over dose of her medicine. The day I went to pick her up we had to call EMS to take her to the hospital where we found out they had given her morning medicine at night and then again in the morning. They had given her pain medication with anxiety medicine which is a BIG no no. Ask any doctor and they will tell you not to take together. When I went to pick her up she couldn’t talk or move. They almost killed my mother. So NO I would not send anyone there!!!!

My 94 year old sister was admitted to Hillside in January after hip surgery. From the moment she became a patient in the nursing facility her care was absolutely incredible. Every staff member was attentive to all her needs and went above and beyond to care for her. The facility is clean bright and well kept. The staff are extremely professional and knowledgeable. Unfortunately my sister pasted away in late March. The kindness expressed to me was was so thoughtful , I received personal phone calls with expressions of their sympthany . I would highly recommend Hillside Nursing , it is one of the best ! Gloria K- March ,2020

My mother went into this facility under respit care with hospice. This facility signed a CONTRACT with Kindred hospice that said their contract price was $141....I was told they would accept kindred's contract price of $141, but because their beds cost $190/a day, that we would have to pay the additional $50 to cover the price of the bed, then until February 1st we would have to cover the entire amount of $190/a day....the social worker didn't have an answer for me when I asked, "Well, if you signed a contract with Kindred to accept $141/a day for a respit care bed, how is it ethical or legal to go after a patient to cover the $50 additional money for a respit bed?" My mother has pancreatic cancer and it has spread to her heart, intestines, and stomach...This facility did NOTHING to help or reduce stress...They only added to it! Then to put icing on the cake, because I stated that I was speaking to a Wake County Commissioner and reporting them to medicaid for fraud, they had someone call me, threaten me and try to scare me off from making my complaints! Then yesterday, I receive a BILL from Hillside for $950! These people are out of their minds if they think they are getting a penny from me and/or my mom! They have their eyes set on the monetary benefits of having a facility and what they SHOULD be focused on is patient care and safety.....DO NOT send your parents or significant other to this place if you care about them....the patients were wandering the halls, with no supervision, and they lost my mom's FL2 the first night she was there (they called me to see if I had taken it home with me) disgusting place and VERY UNPROFESSIONAL people working there!

Unfortunately, our 82 yr. mother was sent to Hillside for rehabilitation therapy after having major surgery. My initial concern upon arriving the first day was the lack of security and safety measures in place at the rehabilitation section and the nursing center where seniors live full time. Upon arrival all you do is sign your name, date, arrival time and the patient who you wish to visit in a long book. Your photo ID was never checked nor where badges given to visitors to wear. I only signed in on the first day and walked right past the desk the following 6 days. No one stopped me or questioned me. One afternoon, I decided to explore the entire facility. While touring the building, I was invited into rooms and talked to some of the residents (many asked me to get them straws, ice, water, tissues, warm blankets etc.) I toured behind nursing stations, the kitchen, the physical therapy room, staff lunch room, closets that were not locked etc. and no one stopped me. Given the current climate of our society and our concern with elder abuse and violence to large facilities, this place is scary!!! Anyone can enter this facility and go anywhere they want including patient rooms and do heaven knows what to the patients without being noticed or questioned. I was scared to death for my mothers safety. My family made sure that there was always one family member there with her during the visiting hours.

The lobby is beautiful and staff in reception area are kind. But behind the doors to where the residents and patients reside is where the facade ends. Nursing staff is found huddled at their station chatting and slow to respond to pleas for help. The aids and nursing staff used harsh vocal tones, careless rough handling of patients, and seemed indifferent to patients in pain. No steps were taken to prevent a pneumonia (no incentive spirometer or even suggestions to breathe deeply). Pnuemonia is almost inevitable when a patient is sedentary. If your loved one is unfortunate enough to be trapped here, please don't leave them alone. I observed a patient wheeled in her room with no TV or radio on, no access to water, a dirty diaper filling her room with a foul odor, and she had been left there alone for hours. She summed it up when she looked up at me and begged, "Please, please help me. I want to go home."

My mother has been a resident here for the past several years after being a resident at another local facility. We are very happy with the staff (most of the time), and find the management extremely receptive to comments. They've taken very good care of my mother and she has stated many times that she wouldn't like to be anywhere else.

My mother was in Hillside for two weeks for rehab. The rehab was very good, but I won't recommend the nursing home side. She had a horrible experience when she was placed there because they didn't have a room in rehab. The food was very unappetizing and did not smell very good. When she was transferred to the rehab room, it was very nice, private, and had a TV. The rehab people did an excellent job with her knee and arm. Everybody was very pleasant, and the nurses were very helpful.

Where do I begin? The halls smell like feces more often than not. I have caught the staff yelling at residents several times, staff ignoring residents when they are clearly trying to ask for help. I regret putting a parent in there. Please, if you have to do this facility visit frequently and at odd times of the day.

My husband preferred Hillside Nursing and Rehab. It was beautiful and clean with a nice staff. They had a rehab center, assisted living, and nursing care. It was really large, and the rooms were bigger, but the only thing I didn't like about it was there were only two rooms where you could be by yourself. All the other rooms had two people in them, and that just doesn't work for some elderly that are still in good shape. I don't think my mother-in-law would do that at all. It had been renovated and looked really nice, and the people I met were very friendly and nice.

Terrible facility, the staff is over worked and UNDER PAID.The staff to resident ratio is unbelievable you can see they are very tired, 26 residents per CNA on night shift, how can they provide care!! Days are not much better. Out of date equipment, beds, small rooms, no supplies, residents are not being cared for properly due to staff turnover. Rehab is the Hilton compared to the rest of of the facility. I moved mama.

very disappointed

Halls are painted every year to look nice but aides continue to leave for higher pay as cost to residence rises. Owners are unfriendly, residents are over sedated, and aides are few per resident ratio. Conditions have worsened.

Not sold on this one either. Had odor in hallways. Looked understaffed. CNA's don't wear ID/Name tags. Facility owners don't interact with patients and families.

I have witnessed a wonderful, caring nursing staff. They are constantly updating the building and keep it very clean. The genuine way that they treat the patients is very appreciated. I highly recommend this facility!
