I visited this facility
Hometown Nursing was highly recommended by our pastor and members of the church. I have been there a few times, and everybody thinks highly of it. It’s clean, it's on one floor, and they have lots of activities -- at least a once a month church service. It’s got good reports, and the rooms that I have seen were clean.

I visited this facility
The building was very nice, however, there was not a lot of things for the residents to do outside. I was a game coordinator/volunteer for a year and was always disappointed that the residents could not fully enjoy a beautiful and sunny day. Some of the nurses are rude, but much like any facility, there will always be "bad apples." Overall though, I think the Hometown Nursing Center is nice but may not be my first choice for any of my older family members.

I am a friend or relative of a resident
I am a family member of a recent resident of Hometown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. I have a mixed review for this facility. Our initial contact with the center was long distance and by viewing their website. Shortly after our family member became a resident there, we were able to visit the facility and worked with the staff to transfer the family member across country. The grounds of the facility are pleasant. The common areas were clean. The residents rooms were also clean, but small. The dining area is large and bright. They have an activity room and have different activities available for residents who are able to participate. There is also a chapel. The staff and management that we dealt with, over the phone, through emails, by fax and then in person, were very helpful in an extremely difficult situation. This is a larger facility and the staff-to-resident ratio appeared to be adequate. The manager at the time, Renee, was extremely helpful and accommodating. She went out of her way to make sure that proper paperwork was available to us. Additionally, she kept in contact with us to keep us updated on the current condition of our family member. The only problems we encountered were miscommunications between the hospital and the facility, and some follow-through involving patient transfer from the facility to the medical transport company. Originally we were told that this was a secure facility (for dementia patients), and then we were told that they were not equipped for our family member. This was discouraging as we were trying to arrange things from over 2,000 miles away. They eventually worked with us to accommodate us until we could arrange travel and a new facility. The other problem involved medication that didn't make it's way to the medical transport people which made the journey across country more stressful for patient as well as the transporting team. While we were there, we noticed that the staff appeared to engage the residents as much as possible. The staff we observed seemed to enjoy their jobs and working with the residents. This facility is not a homey assisted living facility, but is more geared toward skilled nursing and residents who are unable to help in their own care. If you are looking for skilled nursing care, then this is a facility you should consider. I do think that there is some room for improvement in communication with staff, therefore I rate this 3 stars.
