I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom is at Clove Lakes Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, I like that they're taking care of her. She has a lot of issues where she rings the bell, the staff don't come a lot. They make her wait a long time to use the bathroom. That's the only complaint and everything else is good. She said the food is good most of the time, and she loves her physical therapist. I haven't been really inside because we're not allowed to go in because of COVID, but the lobby is clean. They have a place that they can sit outside. They have a little patio, but the outside is nice. They're very friendly, they answer any questions I have, and they're very nice on the phone.

My grandfather was in the care of Clove Lakes for the last couple years of his life. My entire family and I cannot thank the staff enough for the love and support he received while with them. Any time we would visit his room was always tidy, he was cleaned up and dressed properly, and he was in good spirits. He loved to tell us stories about the friends he had made there or why we couldn't visit with him too long because he had an activity or party to attend. (The activities/parties he was going to were set up at Clove Lakes, by the staff) Knowing he genuinely was enjoying himself is something we were worried about in the beginning because Grandpa had issues in the past with accepting any help. If you have a loved one that requires round the clock attention or assistance please do not hesitate to send them here!

My mom was at Clove Lakes for short term rehab. When she arrived, she could not walk without assistance. She walked out of Clove Lakes holding my hand and waving to the staff. She returned home after recovering following a long hospitalization. No one cooks like my mom but she loved the food and said it tasted even better because she did not have to cook it or clean up. Her rehab therapists and nurses were amazing. The aides treated her with tender care and she loved each one of them. She loved to treat them to little candies I would bring for her and when my sister and brother visited, she had them bring in little candy treats to give to the staff as well. Thank you to the Management of Clove Lakes for being there when we needed you most and if the time comes that we need you again, we will be certain to call you and to tell our friends about you. God Bless you all!!

WARNING: Avoid this place ! There are several nursing homes and rehab facilities on Staten Island....this one has to be at the bottom of the barrel ! Their rehab floors offer no recreation or pass times for residents and they simply sit idle in the corridors or lined-up like dogs in a kennel around the nurses station in wheelchairs with little to no supervision. The day room is always usually empty and they are too cheap to hire anyone to supervise the patients in there daily. The place is severely under-staffed and patients may have to wait a half hour or longer, after they ring the buzzer, to get aid. Some of the aides are really nice and do a great job, however, others are non-empathetic and can be inattentive and even rude ! Physical therapy is a joke and all but worthless here, too. Most of the nurses are good and helpful, but the doctors rarely show their faces to family members and do a poor job communicating over medicate the patients to keep them more manageable, i petulant or unruly and they become over sedated and lethargic on all these anti-psychotic and anti-anxiety drugs. My advice,.....stay far away from this Hell hole !

Clove Lakes was a very nice nursing home. Everything was nice and clean. The workers were great. They took very good care of my mother. I thought it was very good. I have known quite a few people that were there, and there were no problems. Everybody was great and helpful. It was a very good nursing home. The rooms were good. They were nice. They had some that were two to a room, and they had some that were four to a room, but I don’t think they had one to a room. They were great, even the food was good. In fact, while my mother was there, I would eat dinner with her. The food was delicious. It was good.

Clove Lakes made all the difference in my father,s recovery. After major surgery and several hospitalizations my father lost his independence, thanks to the terrific, caring and professional staff at Clove Lakes he got it back! The wonderful nursing care and dedicated rehab staff worked with him every step of the way. Thank you Clove Lakes !

The facility is terrible. The people have no communication between departments. Ask them what the state required minimum safe discharge protocols are and they look at you like you have 3 heads. They provided the worst care that any of my three relatives received here in Staten Island compared to 2 other nursing homes. Half of the social workers are great, and the other half should be working on tugboats instead of in healthcare. I wish I could rate this NO STARS but I had to click on at least one. I offered to meet with the administrator to have a professional conversation regarding what went on with my relative and they never accepted my request. I would not allow a pet hamster to be cared for in this facility. The food was never edible, always cold, and they consistently never dressed my relative in his own clothing. Additionally, they violated state and federal healthcare laws by not allowing the patient or family members to see, view or read any health records. They treated you like you were children who shoudn't be allowed to ask questions or know anything. Additionally, the wrong medication was given to my relative on multiple occasions and luckily he was lucid enough to refuse otherwise he might be dead.

I visited my mother-in-law who was admitted for rehab. The food was inedible so we brought her in food from the outside. On cold days, there is no place to sit and chat besides the patient's room except for several loveseats near the cold entrance. Aides were great, patient, and hard-working. The doctor treated her as if she was a child. He also didn't take her back pain seriously and wrote in her chart that she was not compliant. The rehab floor is drab and depressing. The rooms are akin to hospital rooms. There is nothing cheery about this rehab floor and patients are just sitting in their wheelchairs in the hallway. No stimulation once you finish your rehab time.

Clove Lakes is a nice building. It's like two buildings put together. There's a first and second floor and one building is just rehab. The patients are there for a short amount of time. Everybody was very nice, the food was very nice, the place was very clean. There is like a little yard you could sit in. I was in a wheelchair so I would go outside there. They had a big television in a TV room, each room had a TV. There were two in a room. It was okay.

Clove Lakes is a dynamite facility, it is a wonderful place, with great staff and very caring people. I dealt with them for two years when my father was there. The nurses there take such good care of the patients. Services are very organized and very well run. My father wasn't too crazy about the food. If my father ends up back into skilled nursing, I am hoping not, but I would definitely put him back here. I have no problem with the place and I would recommend it highly.

I visited this facility

Clove Lake Nursing was nice. The rooms were a little small. It looked like a hospital, but I guess most nursing homes do. They did have a nice atrium where residents can also have lunch and dinner. But there was a waiting list set for that. I did stop by at night and they had bingo. They also have a beauty parlor and a little church. The only thing I didn't really like about it was there were too many different accents.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I went in Cloves Lake Health Care two days before Christmas. The staff was very nice. I lost weight, which I'm glad because I need to. They had me on low sodium diet, so it was unbearable. I didn't like it and it wasn't very appetizing. But the medication was great and I was well cared for. So I was okay, I was satisfied.

By in large this is an EXCELLENT facility. When I visit my mother, the facility is clean and the food they serve is quality and good. Great activities are provided daily. Good socialization amongst its residents. The only fault I find with this place is that there could be more staff in the late-overnight hours. At times after 11pm my mother sometimes has a hard time getting the assistance she requires (getting to the bathroom).

I am a friend or relative of a resident

When I visited the facility to visit my great grandmother, I was surprised at the accommodations and the staff. There were many amenities available to residents and guests alike - multiple balconies, porches and outdoor areas with tables and supervising staff to ensure that there were no incidents outside.Sometimes, however, it took a long time for a nurse to come to the room when there was a need. It sometimes seemed as though there weren't enough staff to support the resident population. The rooms were large and airy, with large windows and extra space to help residents feel at home. The cafeteria and the food were much better than I was expecting, and residents enjoyed many meal options. They have a strict visitor policy with certain times that visitors were allowed, but if you were lucky you got a staff member who was willing to go ask the resident you were trying to visit if it was okay with them. As long as it wasn't too early in the morning or too late at night you were able to visit. In the entrance way there are couches and chairs and tables allowing for you to spend time socializing with other residents, and watch them socialize. There were game nights, dances, bands, and other events that were provided for the residents.

The facility was dark, but clean. There are plenty of nurses on call and available to tend to patients needs although not every member of the staff seems happy to be there. There were activities planned for the residents but not every one participates. The residents need more stimulation because at times the facility is too quiet, and I can't imagine anything worse than an elderly patient who may is essentially there all alone, just sitting there with nothing to distract them and nothing to cheer them on or up or give them something to look forward to. It it hard to witness. So, I cannot even imagine what it is like to live.
