I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My brother is in Arcola Health and Rehabilitation Center. I won't really call them attentive, but due to everything, everybody who's been there, and what's going on, I can understand. They could also give more feedback to the families with what's going on, considering you can't actually go in any time you want to see everybody, and you have to make an appointment. And now you have to have COVID tests several days before you visit. That's all fine; I just feel that the communication as far as the healthcare and the services needs to be filtered down to the family members a little bit easier than you having to call to get an update on your loved one. It's only two levels, the reception area was really small, and the administration section where they log people in is also small, but the people are nice. It's just that if you don't ask the question, you'd never get the answer. It's that type of place. And if you don't know what to ask, you'll never get an answer. My brother is in good health and good standing, so the nurses are probably taking really good care of him.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I was in a double room (separated by a curtain, shared bathroom).(singles & up to 4 available) My side was spacious enough with windows facing trees, and during the day, I sat in the courtyard for several hours. My only complaint was that I heard my roommate's TV shows at night. The administrative, nursing, and PT/OT staff were wonderful - very kind, gentle, attentive, and helpful. I can't praise them enough. I had 2 hours of PT/OT every day.I was there only 2 weeks, so I did not join activities, however there were many: music, bingo, religious, movies, other games.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My sister was cared for at Arcola following two recent hospitalizations. I am a nurse, and have a pretty good idea of what to expect and what to appreciate. The most important thing is the people they employ- the professional and supportive staff. And our experience was top notch in this area. Everybody with whom we worked was helpful, kind and caring, as well as professional and competent. To name a few people- sorry if I leave anybody out....- Flavia at the front desk was amazing. She went above and beyond in helping me during a difficult time. She is a can-do person, and expert at managing the kinds of things one needs in these situations. The rest of the front desk staff was equally helpful. The rehab team was awesome. My sister was regularly treated by physical therapists and occupational therapists. She saw many different people, but every person was kind, adaptable, professional and patient. And they were very honest in their feedback of her progress. They helped her build her strength after a devastating illness. On her acute rehab unit-second floor- the nursing staff were also very kind, helpful and professional. To name just two- Theodore responded immediately to all of my requests regarding everything from getting her phone working to arranging for passes for me to take her to outside docs to obtaining orders from the doctors. Amanuel worked hands on providing care, and my sister really loved him and appreciated his gentle caring manner. I was impressed that they employed a number of RN's, but all of the nursing staff were wonderful. I did not interact with the MD's and NP's much, but they were also very helpful. Finally, Rita the social worker actually helped change my sister's life. She gently helped break through her barriers of denial as she struggled to continue to maintain her independence. She help us make her see that she needed more help than she had ever been willing to accept. We now have her in an assisted living facility near our other sister (Rita encouraged her to consider living near family, which has not been the case the last few years...) and we know she will be safe and be able to improve her health and quality of life. Arcola is not the fanciest place in the world, though it is clean and well maintained, but I cannot say enough about the quality of the care and caring there.

As always it's scary when you have to make the decision of putting a parent in a nursing home for rehab purposes. There is so much to be afraid of, the staff, the food, the care provided and so much more. I was faced with the tough decision of placing my 89 year old father at Arcola Health and Rehab after suffering from a mild stroke. I am an Arcola visitor from years ago when an uncle of mine spent his last days there. He was well taken care of till the end and hence I knew my dad would be taken good care of as well. He stayed at the rehab location for about a month since he needed Physical Therapy for strengthening his muscles and work on his balance. I brought him in and he was being attended to right away by the wonderful nurses and staff. He was very comfortable and enjoyed the food which helped him regain a lot of his strength back. I was so happy with his care and I trusted everyone at the facility that I went on a mini international vacation, leaving my father in their hands. My dad was someone who never liked to exercise but once he started his extensive rehab routine with the rehab team, he got hooked. He would look forward to rehab every single day and give me a report of how things went. The staff was amazing he would tell me, from Speech Therapist, Nurse, Social Worker and Rehab Team. They were kind, patient, understood his needs, gentle and they treated him as if he were their own father. There were no complaints from either him or the rehab staff. He did his workouts as told because he wanted to get better fast and come back home. They encouraged him every step of the way and told him how good he was doing. The Rehab manager was very proactive and made sure he understood what had happened to him, how he should continue his exercises at home and that she and her team were always there for him if he wanted to come in and continue rehab as an outpatient attendee. I really highly recommend Arcola Health and Rehab to anyone who is looking for high level care for their loved ones. My family had a wonderful experience and even though my father is doing better and is at home, Arcola is our family now. We keep in touch with the staff, randomly pay visits and always rave about how good they are.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I was an in-patient at Arcola for about a month of rehab following a hospital stay. The rehab people are first rate, professional, caring, attentive, personable, your couldn't ask for more. The remainder of the staff range from the uncaring to the rank incompetent. Many do not speak understandable English or do not understand it themselves. Example, one evening after therapy I was particularly tired and asked to for my "pills" early so I would not be reawakened later. The attendant left without a word only to return a few minutes later with an armload of pillows. She was unable to discern between the 2 words.

I visited this facility

This place is very unprofessional and the care is sub par. They asked us to pay for a month in advance and assured us that if we left prior to that they would refund us. Long story short we left after 2 weeks because of the service, and 6 months later we still have not got a refund. This is despite several phone calls. They claim it is there corporate office that is the hold up. All this leads me to believe that Arcola is a complete con job.

Some of the staff are very unprofessional. The physical therapy department is great but some of the nurses staff are rude. Never again.

I was just released from the Arcola Nursing Home and Rehab Center. I stayed there for 2 weeks|2 days. I was diagnosed with Acute Myeopathy and pain in my legs with shortness of breath. The physical therapy program there was exemplary. I gave the therepist my goals and she helped me reach them. The environment was comfortable and nurses took their time to assist you. They pushed you to achieve your goals at your own pace and were thouthful and understanding with the care given. I would recommend anyone who has a similar problem or just needs rest in becoming healthy again to try Arcola.
