I visited this facility

We're on the list at Savannah Square. It's nice. They have a lot of places to walk outside and of course, you can walk inside. They have some cottages if you want to live there or they have an inside place where you can live, and that's what we like. We like the inside better because we are older and all. Inside the apartments, they had a stove, a refrigerator, and a dishwasher, but they did not have a microwave. If you stay inside the building, you cannot have a washer and dryer in your apartment. You have to use one down the hall, and they have a laundry room there. If you stay in a cottage, you can have a washer and dryer, but you have to purchase it yourself. The staff who took me around was very nice and very knowledgeable. She did not pressure us. They provide three meals a day. We had lunch there and it was good. Everything was very clean.

Provider Response

Sue, thanks for visiting us and sharing your thoughts from your tour. We were thrilled to see that you had a wonderful visit and were so impressed by what you saw that you decided that Savannah Square was the place for you!

I am/was a resident of this facility

We were at Savannah Square. We started with independent living, and then my wife had to have assistance with getting a bath and then medications. They will handle the medications and of course they offer you a room. One of the best things was the space, which was too much for us, and of course, the option of eating in the room or the dining room. We were there when COVID came up. They had planned activities, which were helpful. Another thing is we're a couple and that's very unusual, it appears. We had a lot of areaa to walk around in and that makes a lot of difference. They did the best they could, but a lot of things are easier and better done by a family member, particularly a spouse if you're both together. We both worked in health care. She is a radiologic technologist and I'm a respiratory therapist, so we had more experience with what she needs. All the staff made a genuine effort, and they were all friendly when you talk to them. I wouldn't give them much for the meals, but when we were there, the COVID thing was raging, and they were no longer preparing meals the usual way. They were brought to us either in our room or it was separate six feet between all the people and in a Styrofoam tray with the food all packed in it. Even if the food was reasonably well, it's just eating out of plastic. Cleanliness was reasonable; it was good. Clothes were picked up and delivered back to you. They came in and they mopped. The floors were a little disappointing. They had one lady that handled the activities, and she was very entertaining and very energetic. Mostly it was bingo, games, and chair aerobics. The spaces were not designed for training or providing an exercise room as other places had. The building's design was not laid out specifically for that. They were in a room that was kind of crowded sometimes, but everybody enjoyed it thoroughly.

Provider Response

Hi Richard. Thank you for sharing your thoughts about what life was like at Savannah Square during COVID, and we appreciate your acknowledgement of the work the team did to keep our residents happy and healthy during the heart of the pandemic. We'd love to have you come back and visit us today, enjoy a meal in the dining room and mingle with residents during one of our many Lifestyle360 programs -- we think you'll be amazed by how different the community feels!

I visited this facility

We toured Savannah Square. The atmosphere was very alive, and people were interacting, and that was one of the things I liked about it. The living area was roomy and very beautiful. The place was very well-kept. I was especially delighted that they had a security guard and a gate because this is kind of in downtown Savannah. I felt that they were really safe because of their security. The atmosphere and the people living there were happy because I went there to watch and interacted with a few residents. They were very happy, they all seemed to know each other, and they were talking. It wasn't a place to go and die; it was a place to go and live. The place was very well appointed. They got a menu for that week, and they have what they call an all-the-time menu that is available in case you don't want what they're cooking. What I was impressed by was that the staff members that I saw were speaking to the residents and there were a great many of them, and they seem to know all their names, so there was personal interaction. I'm very impressed with that. I'm taking my dad there hoping he'll go. That's where I want him to be. I think he'll live longer if he lives in this environment. It was just a truly positive experience.

My mother used to live in Savannah Square and it was very nice, the people were very accommodating, and it was very secure. The food was well-cooked, it wasn't bland and it was very flavorful. They have very nice grounds to walk around on. The dining room was done very nicely too. She was at the independent living. The communication was very good. From what I saw, it was very well-maintained.

We toured Savannah Square and the location is good for our family. They have nice facilities, and they do lots of activities. We would like the little cottage that they have. We liked the fact that they have progressive care there. The staff was very knowledgeable and very nice. Of course, there was COVID, so there was a lot she could not show us because it was kind of shut down, but she was very friendly. They also have pools.

My mother has lived at Savannah Square for more than 13 years and we have been so happy with her community. The staff is so pleasant and so helpful. She just recently made a transition from independent living into assisted living and I can’t say enough about how easy the staff made this very difficult time. Someone helped us every step of the way. My mother was received into assisted living with warmth and caring professionals who knew just what to say and do with her dementia. The transition could have not been more seamless.

I visited this facility

My visit at Savannah Square was excellent. I was received very cordially, I was shown several options, and I could not have been treated any nicer. It was beautiful, the dining area looked beautiful, it had tablecloths and cloth napkins, comfortable chairs, and it looked like a more formal setting. I’m going into independent living, but I looked at both independent and assisted living.

Savannah Square is very clean and well-maintained. They have an automatic door for people who need it and they have elevator service. People seem to enjoy their food there. They have exercise equipment, classes and group things for people like entertainment. The staff is very nice and solicitous. The residents are all very nice and friendly. They also have limousine-type service for the people there if they need to go somewhere. It's very good and everybody there seems to like it.

My 89 year old mother had no working heating unit as of Dec. 30- weather forecasts were already warning of the extreme cold headed our way. She was given 2 space heaters and told parts would be replaced Tuesday, Jan. 2nd. I requested a 3rd space heater for her on Sunday,Dec. 31, which she was given. We were then told the entire heating unit needed to be replaced- to be done on Wednesday. Today is Saturday, Jan. 6th and the latest info is that it will be replaced on Monday. I find it ironic that the tag line on the web page of Five Star properties is "Warmth and Hospitality" Look elsewhere for a community for your loved ones.

Savannah Square was exceptional, from the quality of the facilities to the attention to detail. The senior marketing person, Kelly, was exceptional and explained everything in thorough detail. The pricing was much better than some of the other facilities that we visited. All in all, I thought it was going to be the best choice for my mother. They have plenty of transportation services, scheduled activities like Bingo, cards, and social get-togethers, the whole nine yards.

The staff here are very friendly and helpful! I admitted my dad to the skilled nursing and was very pleased. Other facilities seemed more concerned with revenue than the quality of care when I visited. Not here!!! They helped our family during one of the most critical times, and I am grateful for that! Highly recommend this place if you want to sleep at night knowing your loved one is taken care of!!

My parents are in Savannah Square's assisted living area. They have a nursing home and independent living on-site. Right now, I am not too pleased with it. Some of the Med-techs are not very friendly and had been rude to my mom, but not all of them. There are several of them who are very good; they can't always have a perfect staff. The food is OK. They prepare the food in the independent facility and bring it over to the assisted, so sometimes the food is cold. The apartments are really nice. They are living in a spacious one-bedroom, one-bath apartment. It is bright because it has nice, big windows and has a little kitchenette without a stove but does have a microwave and a little refrigerator. They have two-bedrooms and one-bedrooms of different sizes, too. It is very easy to get to.

From the initial contact over the phone I felt welcome at Savannah Square. I toured the Health Center for my father in law and was very impressed with the staff. I observed the interaction with residents, cleanliness, and there weren't any bad smells. Staff answered my questions, and My father in law needs short term rehab and I have heard great things about this place and the therapists.

I visited Savannah Square. It was very neat, clean, and very large. The staff was very friendly. They had bingo, art, crafts, tours, shopping sprees, they had different things. When I went into the main entrance, it was almost like going into a hotel. It did not feel like going into a home, and the main entrance was too quiet.

Savannah Square did have cottages; which were very beautiful. However, they did not have garages. You had to park in the parking lot, and the one that was available was quite a distance from the main facility where she would be eating her meals. She would have had to drive up there every time she ate. The people were wonderful. I had no complaints about it other than the fact that mom wanted a garage. It is a gated facility also. If you're not living in a cottage very few of the facilities have a full kitchen. They have a sink, refrigerator, microwave, but they do not have stoves. The menu was good. They had a full activity schedule everyday.

Savannah Square was very nice. They have beautiful little cottages on the property for independent living, rooms for assisted living, and a nursing home as well. The staff was fine. They were friendly, nice, and professional. They have a bar and a piano area, a theater room for movies, and rooms for arts, crafts, clothing or painting; that kind of stuff. They did have gym facilities, and they also take you to doctor’s appointments or shopping, and that kind of stuff.

Savannah Square is probably where we're going. When we went to visit, we went to independent living but also viewed assisted living. It was great, the staff was great, and it had more of what we were looking for due to my mother progressing into her dementia. Everything was on-site: one facility, all in one place. In independent living, the apartments were really good because they had separate bungalows, so you don't have to use elevators. We viewed assisted living, which she's not to that point yet, but everything was the same, except that the rooms didn't have the fully equipped kitchen. We went on a Friday when they were having a bar night or cocktail hour with music playing. We actually ate in the restaurant, and the food was really good. It seemed more suitable to our needs. It's more expensive, but had everything we were looking for at that particular time and still has what we'll need as time goes on. It looked like a great place. We took my mother and asked her what she thought. She said that she could see herself living there.

Savannah Square was just very nicely appointed. They were very professional and, provided a lot of feedback, and at this point, we are on their waiting list and waiting for my mother to come down. They certainly do have activities. They have an exercise room right there and a limousine service to different areas to assist with shopping or going to different activities off the property. They have restaurant style dining with three meals a day, they have a happy hour, and then they have all different activities. And they have two styles of rooms; they have rooms either in the building or they have like small apartments outside of the building.

Savannah Square is probably the nicest one, but it is way too far from where I live and my family. They have a lot of cottages, and they have lovely dining facilities. It is really topnotch. The staff was quite pleasant. Their cottages were very nice, but small as they all were. I would recommend this facility to others.

(Rated one star because I couldn't rate zero) My mother stayed in this facility for about one week for the "Skilled" nursing care after a short hospital stay. Her room didn't even have a working call button and she needed assistance getting in and out of the bed. She also did not have a working phone in her room until my 15 year old pulled the jack out of the wall and fixed it. This facility does not provide a TV, even for short term patients, and there are no pictures on the wall in the rooms. The staff was disinterested. The nursing staff "doesn't do" physical therapy so they refer you to the therapist and forget about it. The hall outside my mother's room smelled like a gas station bathroom. Mother had thrush (from antibiotics) and complained about her mouth hurting, but no one made any effort to find out why her mouth hurt and/or get her softer food to eat, until we complained to the nursing staff. This place was awful for short term care. I wouldn't send my worst enemy's parent to this place.

My brother-in-law moved to Savannah Square. They hated it, and they moved out after about two and a half months. The services were terrible. The staff was insufficient and lazy. One time when the cook and the staff left, they didn’t have food except for water. They had a large number of buildings and just two maintenance people. A lot of the building was very dirty. They need to improve their services in their dining room, the food, and the cleanliness of the property. They are way too understaffed.

My friends are going to live in Savannah Square. The room is a 2-bedroom, about 1100 sq.ft. to 1200 sq. ft. I would say that it may have a little age on it; it’s not modern and new. It is very clean and the people that handled our tour were very good. Our friends took their son and daughter-in-law there for dinner as their guests and they loved it. What they charge is fantastic for all the meals and the whole thing. I think it’s one hell of a deal.

We had a great tour of both facilities today. Both have positive attributes and either would be a good choice for my parents. The appealing items about each: Savannah Square- wooded location with private balconies in the independent living area. Beautiful building with meals in the dining area. The breakfast is continental and lunch and dinner are full meals. No medical help in this building as it is independent living. The downside is that their long term care policies would not pay there. They would have to go to the assisted living building which we did not like nearly as well. The transportation options appear to be a little limited. They do have many activities and trips, but with my parents limited mobility, they would not be able to do much of this. As my parents health declined and they needed more care we would have to move them yet again. Also, the fact that they would not be reimbursed with their long term care policies is a big problem.

Even though I had spoken to somebody at Savannah Square to confirm my appointment, the individual that was supposed to do the tour was off that day. So another person tried but that was not their job. They were not just as well prepared. This facility was very dark and I must say that it was a little depressing to me. When I was there, I saw somebody being transported to appointments and I saw the place where they hold different activity. I saw their movie room, arts and crafts room and things of that nature.

My granddad is going to be moving into The Savanna Square. They did have both independent and assisted living. Everything was really nice there. The facility itself was nice. I like that it was secured and gated, so that's nice as well. Their rooms were very nice and clean. They were relatively large. Their dining room was large as well with lots of tables and chairs. Everyone I met was very nice. They seemed to really care about their residents. Overall, everything was good there.

I recently visited my sister in law at Savannah Square. It was just awful! There doesn't seem to be anyone in charge. I understand there is a lot of employee's coming and going all the time, perhaps Glen ? In the HR department is addressing this. I also must mention that the cottage my sister in law lives in is a bit dated and gloomy. For the money she is paying I would thhink they could afford to update the accommodations . Oh the room service lunch we had was cold and not very appealing. I hope you can correct these issues so my sister in law does not have to find another place to reside. Thank you.

I like Savannah Square more than the other one I visited. This place is set back off the road in a quiet tree lodge area, and you wouldn't know there was a community for independent living there. It is a very beautiful facility. It is a little bit more classy and high end. They have a little bar area for drinks. They also have family area should you have family coming in. I was very impressed with their accommodations. One part of the facility is an apartment building. They showed me their studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments. They are all beautiful. There are plenty of rooms inside and you can decorate your own apartment. They also have a pull cord in the bathroom just in case of emergency. In every floor, there is a laundry facility for their residents. Service is also excellent in this community. They take care of everything for you. They can take you to your doctor's appointments, to the store or wherever you want to go. You just have to let them know ahead of time that you would need transportation. I would definitely recommend this place. You wouldn't have to worry about anything if you put your loved ones here.
