Valentina and Faith the wound care nurses were Top Notch excellent in their field. The rooms on my right ankle or healed up within the month and a half. The wounds on my lower left leg we're almost completely healed up before I had to go, 2 weeks later. Dr Julian was always encouraging. He would visit us every day. He's also top notch in his field. He has the best bedside manners I've ever seen in my entire life. The nursing staff took good care of me.

The doctor is good, the nursing and CNA staff depends on who is working. The first Saturday my relative was there, I arrived at 11 AM to find them still in bed. I rang the nurse and a CNA came, when I told them she is recovering g from a stroke and there would be no recovery laying in bed, I was flippantly told that she was up as the CNA had seen her in the bathroom. I told them they needed to have her up first thing. When I arrived the next morning, the roommate told me that the nurse was yelling at my relative since she couldn't stand. No kidding she had a stroke. There were many days that she was left in filthy clothes, even though clean clothes were available. The food is something I wouldn't feed.my dog and the rooms are dark and dreary. How is anyone supposed to recover, when the rooms are brown with very little light, a very depressing place, with staff that doesn't really care. 1 hour and three people asked just to get some antacids. Sometimes it took 15 minutes for anyone to answer the call light and them after receiving the request, they wouldn't come back for 30 minutes to an hour.

I visited this facility

The facility is fairly clean and attractive. Meal service is adequate. Nursing staff ranges from adequate to terrible. At times medication is provide hours late and there are long waits for bathroom assistance. OT and PT staff were observed to range from good to excellent. The most significant problemI observed was a very very incompetent MD. I saw this MD in action 10 to 15 times. He was arrogant, short tempered and dismissive of my relative who is bright, highly educated and asked meaningful questions. The doctor did not seem to understand the patient’s medical history, even though the patient tried hard to educate the doctor. When the family finally removed the patient to another facility they learned that obvious signs were missed by the Life Care doctor, diagnostics that should have taken place did not occur, and that at least one treatment implemented by the Life Care doctor was dangerous and should not have ever happened. When family members complained phone calls weee not answered. Adequate food, facilities, and some capable staff members cannot compensate for very poor medical care.

My mother had an amazing experience here. The nurses and staff were great and always attentive. The physical therapists and occupational therapists were outstanding. Before her stay, she could barely walk, but they got her walking on her own 2 feet! The therapists even taught us how to help her for when she got home. I would recommend this facility to anyone that is in need.

If we could rate Life Care Center of Reno lower than 1 star we would, Although the facility looks nice enough, anything positive stops with that comment. For a skilled nursing facility, the nurses have very little skill in basic procedures such as inserting IVs. My family member had to wait hours for a nurse who had the skill to do an IV. Nurses and CNAs repeatedly had no idea why our family member was even there and what support was needed. When the call button was rang, it was typical to wait 20+ minutes for a response and even then there was only a response because someone walked to the nurses' station to ask for help. The doctor was dismissive of concerns and provided very general visits to check our family member -- no confidence in the doctor's quality or depth of care at all. Food -- breakfast was OK, but the other meals were not at all appetizing (over-cooked, under-cooked, tough meat, etc.). Therapists and activities seemed appropriate, but the nursing staff and doctors need to improve greatly for this skilled nursing facility to be viewed as a quality one that is "skilled." We would recommend looking at other facilities in Reno.

I chose to go to Life Care twice in 2015 for 2 hip replacements. I had two weeks of intense physical therapy and occupational therapy. I was able to walk out of there within the two weeks. The staff was very attentive and wonderful. Even the food was fantastic. If not for the phenomenal care that I received for just two weeks at a time I would not have been able to walk out of there. Thank you to all that helped me.

My mother is in at Life Care Center for physical therapy. There are CNAs, and the staff is helpful, friendly and recognized my mom. I have observed that they spoon feed seniors who can’t manage for themselves, toilet, and change their clothes. It’s a pleasant setting, all in one level, no stairs or elevators. The rooms are somewhat hospital-like as there are hospital beds with just a night stand, a table, a bathroom and a sink in a room that she shares with someone else. The food seems ample, and they cut it out for her and give them choices for two entrees each day. If they don’t care for the food, there are sandwiches that they can request instead of the two choices.

Seems that this is perhaps one of the best skilled nursing facilities in Reno, which is too bad; there should be a better choice. Rooms are fairly clean. Bathrooms are equipped with the basics, but with some oddities such as not having hands free paper towels. Rather, they were using cloth hospital hand towels to dry hands after the patients uses the toilet and washes their hands. Our family member did not complain about the nursing staff too much, other than the usual (takes time for them to come, etc), so I can only assume that when we weren't there, care was OK. Overall the facility presents as being clean and orderly. It is near impossible to get the nursing station to pick up the phone in order to talk to our family member, or to get any information or updates. The Dr. did not return our phone calls. Therapy staff is very difficult to reach, with voicemails gone unanswered. I would recommend researching other facilities before placing a loved one here. Otherwise, grin and bear it.

My mother was here for four days for post-hospital rehab care for an infection. I found her room quite dirty, with the TV not working. At her admission, she was left alone in the room for about 45 minutes before anyone came and spoke with her. She missed her meds that evening because of a lack of communication between Life Care, the hospital, and the pharmacy. She suffered from urinary and bowel incontinence but was advised by the physical therapist not to get out of bed to go to the bathroom by herself because of the fall risk. So she ended up soiling herself and then waiting 15-20 minutes before any of the CNAs would attend to her call. I would say Life Care is understaffed and poorly managed.

If I could give this facility no stars I would! My grandfather was here for a total of three days before we pulled him out for his safety. If you want your relatives to SURVIVE then DO NOT go here. My grandfather was transported here after having his bladder removed. We placed him here as they claimed to be a skilled nursing facility that could handle major wound care. He has a wound vac that is a necessity and needs to be constantly working. I can not tell you how many times it took them to even to get it it work!! None of the Nurses there knew how to operate this machine properly. This could have caused a MAJOR problem or infection...BUT it gets worse. I came in one morning to visit and apparently from the night before the wound vac yet again was not working so instead of just fixing the issue they took it off! This caused his urine bag to pop off which made urine spill everywhere. Instead of cleaning him up they placed a Diaper on him and left. When I came in the mess was UNACCEPTABLE!! His wound and bed was covered in URINE! Now when we brought this to the doctors attention he dismissed us as being to "picky" and that things were fine. I guess on his standards having URINE in your open healing wound is okay. After suggesting him to come and take a look he became defensive and downright RUDE telling us we had no idea as to what we were talking about. We called another facility and moved him immediately. I can not stress enough DO NOT TAKE YOUR FAMILY THERE IF YOU WANT THEM TO LIVE!!!!

I went to Life Care for a short term rehab stay for my knee surgery. I had an excellent experience. The staff was all very kind and helpful. Whenever I needed anything the nursing staff would always be there in no time once I hit my call light. I was able to return home very quickly because of how great the therapy department was; the best in Reno! I was also very impressed with the cleanliness of the facility, it never smelled like most nursing homes when you walk in. Life Care is the only facility I recommend in Reno.

When I admitted my mother into Life Care Center of Reno she was dying of liver cancer, she was in so much pain. The nurses and CNA's were so good to her. They kept her pain under control and her comfortable until she passed 3 months later. Looking back, my mother was able to make her transition with the dignity and pride that she so deserved. I know that I did everything I could to ensure she was taken care of properly and want to thank Life Care Center of Reno for allowing her and her family to be part of their family in our time of need.

Best facility in this area for sure!!!!! Believe me when I tell you I have had experience with all 7 skilled nursing facilities in the Reno-Sparks area and this one shows a true caring for their patients and staff. The physicians that round at Life Care are compassionate, kind and caring also. My aunt was there after a stroke. We had our doubts that she would ever rehab enough to go home with little or no help. The physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy are above and beyond anything I could have imagined. My aunt did go home with a personal care service attending to her needs during the day. We are thrilled with the outcome. I DO RECOMMEND THIS FACILITY.

My 87yr mother in law went to Life Care Reno after a hip replacement she was there 2 days then we took her out of there. She takes a water pill every morning for blood pressure and needs to urinate several times the first couple hours of taking it. She used her call light for help getting up to the toilet and waited 25 min then her room mate helped her get up to pee another 15 min before anyone came to help her. I complained to the nursing supervisor and she told us " Do not get up alone again if no one comes, just pee in the bed and someone would clean her after" I said she is getting out today!!!! At 87yrs old she is NOT incontinent and was insulted that she was told to "just pee in the bed" then just lay in her own urine until someone could help her!!! How is that helpful for a clean safe recovery from a hip replacement??? NO DO NOT TAKE A LOVED ONE HERE. If I had seen this we would have NEVER taken her there for Rehab. I can not give a lower star than one as it will not let me.

Will not recommend this facility to anyone. My mother nearly died there. The staff showed no initiative or care. We had to call 911 and get her out of there. Disgusted.

understaffed. employees overtired. working too long of hours. No compassion left for patients. Patients will left in soiled linen for hours until they can get to them. Regret having my family their. Grateful to have them moved to a better facility.

My son has cerebral palsy and he is in Life Care Center right now, but he's not in there permanently because we are still looking for a nursing home. The place is very nice and the staff is wonderful. His room is very nice, it is very roomy, and has windows for him to look out. He has some DVDs and a TV in there too. They have all kinds of activities and therapies, different things to do, and different people for him to visit. What I like best about this community is that they often go out on excursions, which is good therapy for my son because he gets to visit different places and be around different people.

I visited this facility

I have visited Life Care of Reno many times in the three years I've lived here in town. Once I visited my mother who was there rehabbing after a surgery, and the other times were visiting friends, people from church, etc. Outwardly the facility has a very nice and clean appearance; the grounds look great, the buildings are clean, even the employees walking between the two buildings are well-kempt and friendly. The issues I have with Life Care were the urine smell that hits you in the face the moment you walk in the door (and permeates everything you wear or bring in to the facility) and the condescending nature of the attending nurses and doctors I've come in contact with. I've witnessed Dr/Nurses squabbling not only in front of me but in front of the patient/resident and their families. I heard a nurse in the hall talking about how if she's short on med she needs for her med pass, she will "borrow" from another and essentially write an IOU to remember to "repay" it. I've also been cut off mid-sentence or question several times, on various visits by different staff members. Everyone seems so hurried but I don't know where they are going.I haven't been back up there in bout six months but, I know from those experiences I will never let either of my parents be sent there again if the occasion should arise.

I have visited Life Care many times in the past, as one of my neighbors was transferred there permantely after his hip replacement. Most of the nurses are very helpful and go the extra mile. The facility is very clean, meals appear to be nutrious but I also know (as my daughter works there) they do not treat their nurses right. They intimadate them on certain issues, work them to many hours on a given day and the list goes on.
