I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Perry County Nurse & Rehab Center is pretty clean, and they take good care of their people. I went and visited 2 ladies -- friends I had taken care of at one point -- and they've gotten better. They're doing a good job. They play Bingo sometimes, they have people come in and play instruments, they do puzzles, and they paint.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mom went to Perry County for rehab and transferred to the nursing part this past week. The staff is very friendly, do a very good job, and are very responsive to our concerns. Mother likes the food, which looks well prepared and healthy. She shares a room but still has plenty of room for her own stuff. It’s a very good facility. They provide different things like bingo and art classes, have movie nights, and people come in to sing. I would like it if she could have a room of her own.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

We moved my mother in Perry County since early March, and my aunt has been there for almost a year now. I was impressed with how clean it was. There were no groupings of patients waiting to go back to their rooms. The number of staff to clients was very high. There were always two aides or nurses around on the floors at any one time, so if something needed to be done, it was done right away. My mom is in the memory wing along with my aunt, and there are four staff members constantly there. They are just so courteous to the patients. It's amazing. I just couldn't get over how kind and gentle they are, and they really took each patient as their own. The food is wonderful. My mom was down to 80 pounds; she is now up to 107, which is wonderful. The food looked very good and had a wide variety. My sister and I were able to have lunch with her one day, and we had a seafood gumbo; it was delicious. I was really impressed with that. They encourage the patients to go outside when the weather permits to get some sun. The grounds are just immaculately kept. It is gated. There are lots of walking trails. Each window for each room has a feeder -- either a bird feeder or a squirrel feeder. There is a large screen TV in the main lounge area. They have activities constantly going on. The cost was unbelievable. The rooms are mostly two bedrooms with two beds in them and a shared bath with adjoining rooms. At any one time, there could possibly be four people using the one bathroom. They each have their own closet and dresser, and the rooms are not too big, but they are comfortable. It gets a little tight if both patients in the room have wheelchairs. In the wing that my mom is in, there are not that many patients.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

A relative of mine was in the facility because she could no longer care for herself and needed to be supervised due to mental confusion from a series of strokes. The nursing home usually appeared to be clean and well-maintained. The food provided to the residents was average in quality. The majority of the staff was caring and friendly. However, there was an ongoing problem with my relative's possessions being misplaced. This included things such as clothing, eyeglasses, quilts, etc. Her items have never been recovered. Although the care was generally adequate, I feel that the administration could have done a better job of coordinating the medical care needs of my relative with her primary care doctor. In my opinion, the communication between the nursing home staff and her doctor was not clear enough to insure optimal care for her. Although the staff was told of specific issues regarding her care that needed to be addressed, it was often necessary to repeat this type of information to the staff several times before action was taken on these matters. It required persistence on the part of her family members in this regard. Overall, though, I would recommend this nursing home, as I believe it is probably better than the average nursing home.
