I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Ignored the calls for help from my very much in pain grandmother. Ignored that she was to be given pain meds on a schedule. Every time I arrived she was crying out loudly in pain, I could hear her down the hall and so could they and they ignored her. Took a hospice nurse coming in to get them to give any proper care and even then it wasn't enough. Gave her solid food she not only couldn't eat but was a choking hazard over and over, not correcting their mistake. Took out her hearing aid and misplaced it temporarily, giving her no way to hear anything. Made a very difficult time needlessly traumatic. The employees seem to want to do a good job but there are not enough of them to begin to cover it and/or they are not trained properly.

This place is a joke, find another nursing home. Horrible staff, with horrible attitudes. They neglect residents for hours on end, leave them in wheelchairs all day long in wet undergarments and also overnight in bed with soiled or wet undergarments. They hide their horrible service well.

Penfield Place was closer to us, so we can get there anytime we wanted to. They have on site activities, like bingo and music, and provide three meals a day. They usually provide transportation, but they have a doctor right there at the home and a visting priest. They have different functions. They have laundry and meals and bring my mother her snacks. The staff is very helpful. They help her go into the bathroom, and if she needs assistance, she just presses the button.

What a terrible experience at the Penfield Place. They claimed to be a rehab center but was just a old dumpy nursing home. Facility was dark, with dirty floors, out dated beds, furniture and equipment. Strong Oder smell through out the facility. Food tasted like government surplus, with a lot of residents complaining of terrible meals and not eating. Administrative staff was rude and aids where not help full at times to residents.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mom was placed in this facility for her rehab on her broken hip. My immediate reaction to this place was not positive. The rooms are very dark and uninviting, halls crowded and dirty. The social worker was abrupt even from day one. My mom wasn't even off the gurney from her transport from the hospital and she was asking for paperwork to be signed and her medical cards. The food was less than adequate, I saw my mom every day and always asked her about everything. She ate because she needed the strength. Her PT was going fairly well and she was progressing. In the less than the month she was there we had several problems with the Over night staff not tending to her, being negative and hurtful to her feelings, as well as left being wet. When we addressed it with the head people. we heard nothing but excuses. One night I got a call from my mom at 2am, she was scared and said she just wanted to sit up and they wouldn't let her. She couldn't breathe well. I had the nurse on duty call the head of nursing that night to find out why she wasn't being tended to. She would not talk to me as she said it was off hours. Guess it was ok for me to go there at 2am during my sleep time to watch over her staff and help my mom. Again we had another meeting with the staff, more excuses. That night my mom was rushed to the hospital as she had sores on the back of her legs from her diabetes and ended up with sepsis and developed pneumonia before she got to the hospital. Her neglect has put her in the ICU on a ventilator fighting for her life. The thing that hurts my family and I the most is we never got a follow up call to see how she was doing or how we were doing. We never got a warm and fuzzy feeling from that place at all. If the social worker of that place is not willing to work in the families favor at any time then why would they have her there. Be very hesitant before putting your loved one in this facility. They don't have your back.

My mother in law was admitted to the Penfield Place for rehab after a fracture. Although she experienced adequate care during the day, the night staff often did not answer her call bell and ignored her requests for assistance. One night, family showed up at 2am to find staff sitting at the desk while my mother in law's request for toileting went unanswered. When these concerns were brought to the attention of the home's administration, we were met with opposition, especially for the facilities social worker. Our final night at the home ended with rushing my mother in law to the emergency department with sepsis. She had ulcers on her calves that progressed to cellulitis and a blood infection. She is now on a ventilator and in critical condition. The following morning I went to the facility to gather her belongings. I was met by staff who were evasive and extremely cold. Not once did anyone ask the condition of our family member. I myself have been a nurse in the community for over 35 years and I was shocked at the condition of her ulcers. I was also concerned with what appeared to be a lack of caring.I would make careful consideration when choosing this facility.

Penfield Place is a 40 bed Senior Care Facility . The staff is caring, considerate, knowledgeable & attentive to all the clients they care for on a daily basis. My Mom was there for rehab in 7/10--after a terrible fall which broke her collarbone & several ribs. The staff kept me up to date on her progress even when I could not be there. I am certain that the care she recieved at Penfield Place facilitated her ability to return home with me after only one month. I would reccommend Penfield Place to anyone looking for a small Senior Care facility for their loved one---it is a small nursing home with a huge heart!!!
