I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was at The Courtyards at Pasadena for several months. The dining room was good. There was no smell, and it was kept clean. And the food was pretty good. I was there now and then and I ate with my mother there. The meal was okay. Regarding the staff, they were hit-and-miss, but the front office staff was great. Some of the caregivers were a little lax. My mother was in skilled nursing, and they took pretty good care of her there. They had activities. They tried to keep them a little busy, so that was good. They had an actual menu, and they could choose three or four different things for their meals for the day. The Courtyards was pretty good as far as activities and therapy.

I was very impressed with the care my grandmother was being given here. I would like to thank the staff for being so kind and attentive to her needs. We moved her here when her health declined and we could no longer care for her needs. It is so, so hard to leave a love one in another person’s care. But, they provided us with reassurance that we had made the right decision. The nurses and staff knew her likes and dislikes. They knew how to make her laugh and smile. Thank you for everything.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My brother-in-law did rehab in The Courtyards at Pasadena, and he wasn't walking. We expected him to be up on his legs, at least be able to get himself from his bed to his wheelchair, from the wheelchair to the toilet, and he couldn't do that. He came out of there, he's got a blood infection, and he can't even get up and out of his wheelchair to transport his body. We get him home and he can hardly get in and out of the car. He got into his apartment, and my husband had to help him get to the toilet and off the toilet. They sent him home like he was ready to go home, but he wasn't ready to go home. He wouldn't have been good enough to go to assisted living, because he's a diabetic and has sores on both legs. They only gave him a certain number of days in rehab. We extended it and we paid an extra $3,000 for him to be in there for more days, but we can't see any difference from. I don't think there was any improvement. If I had to rate them at this point, I would say a four for the way he ended up. I don't know if they did what they were supposed to do. They gave him his medications, checked his diabetes, and gave him his insulin when he needed it and stuff, but as far as his rehab, I don't think they did. My husband visits his brother often. You have to make an appointment, to let them know, 24 hours in advance when you are coming to visit. That's what you have to deal with, with this COVID. They can have only so many people visiting at one time. I just let my husband go visit his brother, and he dealt with the staff, and he has power of attorney to take care of my brother-in-law's needs. I did go in the front door, and I did go to his first room where he was quarantined the first day we put him there; it's clean. It's a nice place, and they were still serving the meals to the rooms, and not allowing the people to go to the dining room.

An absolute toilet. I showed up unexpected on Christmas day to find my mother laying in her own feces, dead skin all over the floor, covered in scabies, food rotting on her table. I pulled her out the next day and had her treated. Thank god my mother didnt have to suffer another day in that pit. Watched her 6 pm med nurse come in a 9 pm and leave my mother meds on the table and walk out. Mom dropped one pill on the floor and another in diaper. None of her belongings were out, no remote for the TV. Literally in a room with nothing. Vultures even had the nerve to charge my credit card after I pulled her out. If you love your parent, run away from this place as quick as you can!!!!!

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mother has been at The Courtyards for 5 months now and we are very pleased with her care. It is never easy to leave a love one in the care of others however I have found that Mom is well cared for and safe. The nursing and administrative staff at The Courtyards have exceeded my expectations. I am a registered nurse and have monitored moms care closely and I and pleased with the care and compassion with which that care is given. The extra special things that have brought joy to Mom have included the Christmas party with Santa Claus and the male vocalist singing vintage Christmas carols and the nicely kept grounds where family can visit with her.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mom has been a long term resident at the Courtyards for nine months. She has dementia and requires 24 hour care. I have to mention I do drop in unannounced and have always found my mom, clean and well cared for. The lunch room is clean, they serve a variety of foods for the needs of the patients. They have soft music playing during the day and hold festivities to celebrate a variety of holidays. The facility offers daily low impact activities and I appreciate the hour long knowledge sessions, keeping the residents up to date on the current events. They play guessing games, bingo and have group excersise sessions, that allow the residents to participate to their own capacity. There's a group of young volunteers that come to complimentary paint their nails and although the residents do pay for the beautician to cut and style their hair, it makes them feel especially beautiful. The residents look forward to having that bit of extra attention. I truly believe the care, effort and patience of each staff member is one the facility as a whole, strive to uphold to the highest standards everyday. My mom says, she likes the people who help take care of her. That's all I needed to hear, then I know she's comfortable there. I thank all of them for all they do, I'm sure it's a challenge everyday. We all want what's best for our loved ones, we have to let the facility do the job they are trained to do. Best thing for us to do, is to communicate thoroughly with the staff, they will listen. Work together to make your loved one feel comfortable. The more they can understand the likes and dislikes of the patient, the easier the transition will be. Another thing the Director of Nurses and other staff members meet with you one on one, once a month, they welcome your feedback, concerns or any suggestions you may have for improvement. Having my mom in a nursing facility is something I never thought of doing. I just knew I could handle her on my own, because after all she's my mom. I have one other sibling, who lives to far to come during an emergency. So when I moved my mom into our home and as time went on, my own my physical health was at stake, the safety at home was in jeopardy when she'd walk away from the stove and would forget to turn off the gas stove and at times she'd put styrofoam plates in the toaster oven trying to do things on her own. She had constant falIs, that I just could not lift her up. I knew I needed professional help, that's where The Courtyards at Pasadena came in. This was the hardest thing I ever had to do, I'd choke and cry thinking of the enviable, but within months I had to make the decision that was best for my mom. This wasn't about me it was to have the best continuous 24 hour care, for her own safety and her health. Looking back now, I'm glad I made the choice to have there at the Courtyards at Pasadena.

I visited this facility

The Courtyards at Pasadena was nice. It was the facility that I would consider using. It was clean, and the people that I talked to were very friendly. The type of room that we would need and that we could afford would have to be shared with somebody. They had a big board with all of the activities and times. I saw the common bath and shower areas where they take residents that can't take care of themselves inside their rooms. They also had a beauty salon there.

I had my mother at Courtyards for almost a year. The staff is very compassionate. And the nurses made sure mom was very comfortable while she was on hospice. I would definitely recommend the Courtyards for my family memebers when going through a difficult time. They provided everything my mom could need to make her last days easier.

I visited this facility

I have an uncle who lives in Houston and he had to get rehab so he went to Courtyards. I have to say I was pretty impressed by them. The food was exceptionally good when I visited him for lunch, the staff did a great job with keeping my uncle maintained (showered and shaved) and the rehab department was doing an awesome job with him.

We chose this rehabilitation facility for my father after he suffered from a stroke last fall. He loved the therapists, and he loved the food, oddly enough. It was very clean. Staff was very helpful.

I am/was a resident of this facility

We did go to a facility called the Courtyards, and my wife was there for 12 days. During her stay, she developed pneumonia once again, and then her wound on her bottom end got worse; they couldn’t manage it there. They are geared to help with the trach, but they're not fully geared. They had a guy there that was doing really good, but then they changed over, and it got messed up. They also don't have enough CNAs. They have like 20 residents per nurse or more, and they have one CNA working with that nurse. The facility itself was nice, and the rooms were nice. They had individual restrooms. The floor was carpeted in the room, which I'm not really too fond of a carpeted floor in a nursing facility because of the fact that you have spills that can get in to that carpet versus a linoleum type laminated floor, which you can clean easily and not have the problem with it hanging around in the carpet. The best I would say was their rehab program and its people that came and worked with her each day. They were really good about what they do.

I’ve found The Courtyards for my mom. She has dementia, and it took a while, but it settled in. It’s clean, and the staff is very good. It is more like a hospital setting. We’re pleased with them.
