I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband is now at Harmony Palos Heights. So far, it's OK. There's a particular nurse that goes out of her way for my husband. Her name is Mary, and she is wonderful. She comes here and she helps me out. Not even when she was not his nurse, she still helped me, and she didn't take one moment to think about it. She's an angel sent from heaven. The first room my husband was in, there was another gentleman, but they moved him over here to another section of the place, so my husband is all by himself here, and it's OK. Most of the staff have been pretty good, but there's one in particular that goes way beyond, and I'm really satisfied with her. She is not here all the time. She works in the evening. Her name is Dominique. The first day I met her, she has seen my anguish and my concerns about my husband, and she goes, "Oh my God, can I give you a hug?" She was also sent by God. Everybody else is OK. The facility is OK. It seems like a nice, clean place. The nurse that I met was very helpful. It wasn't her section, but she did go over there, and she took care of my husband. She turned him and she checked him out.

My step-father is in ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation - Palos Heights West. The place was good and clean, and the rooms were a pretty good size. The services are good, I'd like to see them do more with him. He's currently in the rehab department and they've been working with him while he's waiting for the room upstairs. He's been up, dressed, and cleaned, so that's a good sign. They offer things like bingo and card games, they have a pastor come in, and other different things like that for the residents. They have an activity room, a gym area, they have a barber shop, and shower rooms. The food is okay, although it could be improved a little. The staff is shorthanded always so they need more staff.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I have a family member that's in manor care that's blind and needs assistance with almost everything. She was admitted on February 13, 2020 and on Saturday, February 15th they did get her up and dressed. On Sunday, February 16th I noticed she still had the same outfit on so I asked if she was going to get cleaned up and changed, well of course the nurse that was on staff said of course. I came again on Tuesday, February 18th and she was still in the same clothing, I was furious, well again I was told they was going to change her. I came back on Wednesday, February 19th and there she was with the same outfit on. Finally I told them she was not leaving for dialysis until someone cleaned her up and change her clothing, finally two CNA's took her in the bathroom and washed her up. This is terrible how she's being treated. This past Sunday, March 1, 2020 I asked for a manager, finally someone came in and stated she was a manager her name was Shannon, I mentioned to her that they patient needed a shower asap because she's been a patient at manor care since February 13th and no one thought it would be nice to take her and give her a good shower, her body is very itchy and nasty looking, she assured me that she make a note and have the next shift give her a shower. Time went by so I asked the nurse she assured me that she would get a shower if not that night first thing the next morning which was Monday, March 2nd. She is being neglected just because she can't see or do anything for herself. I told them she loves playing bingo but need assistance, I was told no problem someone will assist. No one ever, ever, ever came to get her, all they do is leave her sitting in the lobby ALL DAY LONG. She love sitting in front of her tv listening to her programs. She's totally IGNORED. If you have a love one that cannot do for themselves DO NOT SEND THEM HERE. This place is only for patients that can take care of themselves. Managers do not return phone calls at all. The only person that was nice, truthful and showed concern was the REHAB DOCTOR! I am a very angry family member!

If I can give this place no stars, that would be too generous. They neglected my parent to the point where she was 24-hours away from death - her Doctor's words, not mine. - left in dirty diapers from 2-11 hours without a change. -missed meals. Last 24 hours she only had three slices of bacon, a muffin and had to beg for a piece of pie when they didn't take her for lunch or dinner. -was only wheeled to one activity for the three weeks she was there. -was promised a schedule after a meeting with Administrator; she never followed up. -Administrator told me to call her "any time". Any time after one phone call turned to "call me during business hours". - the DON never called me. I was scolded by the Administrator not to call her as the DON was dealing with a sick child. Never mind my mom was sick and we were paying them to take care of her. -Horribly understaffed; last Saturday she was there I overheard staff talking that they only "had 3 CNAs for the DAY in the building". -PT wrote in her report that my parent could do things unassisted that she couldn't do; therefore, making her insurance company deny coverage for the new nursing home/rehab we sent her to. We had to pay out of pocket thousands of dollars, basically my mom's entire savings. -staff would ignore call button or run out of the room without checking on her. She had come there for rehab and left with pneumonia, severe flu and MRSA in her nose. She went from wanting to go home as her goal to begging me to take her tothe hospital so she could die. She was shaking, vomiting all over herself, had a raging fever, dehydrated and NOT ONE STAFF member checked on her the entire 2.5 hours it took for the ambulance to arrive to take her to the hospital.

My mother spent 2 months in the rehab. I felt she received very good care while there. I requested a private room which was not available but she ended up in a room and they did not put another person in their throughout her stay. The room was spacious and kept clean. The Admissions Director explained to me what to expect when my mother arrived and everything she said happened would. The CNA's were very nice and came when called. The LPN's were great. The food was good most days. If I had to make any suggestions it would be that they have more interactive activities with the residents throughout the day. I would definitely recommend this facility.

My 81 yr old father wanted to go here for rehab since he had a prior stay a few years back. It’s obviously changed for the worse. What really gets me was my dad was getting sick a few days before his discharge date. They gave him breathing treatments and oxygen. On my dads day of discharge,my dad told me they did a chest x-ray. I questioned the staff and was told they would call me with the results. My dad was feeling well at all and they still discharged him. When I got him home he was progressively getting worse . I received a call from manor care rn and was informed my dad has pneumonia and that I should call his primary care physician. Really! Well my dad was rushed to the ER.

My brother received excellent medical care at Manorcare. He was very ill and was always treated with kindness and respect. My 'family would like to thank the attentive nurses, CNA's physician assistants and social workers who were always there to answer our questions and give us guidance and support. Thank you Tonya, Ruta, Lisa, Andrew, Cheryleen, Lisette, and the staff on the second floor of Maor Care for everything that you do for your patients.

My father was here & it is a snake pit. There were only a couple of Aides that cared enough to give him good care. Every day was a battle with the staff, from the nurses to the Director, to get even the basic of care for my dad. My sister & I brought him most of his meals because the food prep here was unacceptable most days. All we got was constant apologies & little satisfaction. It took the threat of bringing in a Lawyer to get anything done. Wrong food trays were brought in, unmarked medication left in his night stand & aides using it without knowing for sure that it was for my dad. Pain medication wasnt given as directed. My dad went for 16 hours between getting his pain meds (it was an every 12 hours order) with only receiving Tylenol at the 11th hour. We have finally been able to get him into another facility. I would definitely avoid this facility for care of a loved one. The only thing that helped my father was that my sister or I were in the room with him everyday for 10-14hrs a day.

CNA's are very good for the most part, the nurses are hit or miss, the admin is questionable.

I visited this facility

My mother was in rehab at the Manorcare Palos Heights West. The staff was good, kept her busy, and got her out to do activities. She fell too many times, though. It wasn’t totally clean which was understable because they were busy and couldn’t clean up all the time. The food was adequate, nothing special. The location was OK and in a nice area.

Out of the choices given, we were satisfied with most of the time our Mother spent recuperating from surgery. She needed wound management care. We frequently brought her food, as the diet was very bland.

This facility is not for someone who has a complicated medical history. My family member was here twice and both times benefited from the wonderful therapists. The therapists know what they're doing and are very caring. The CNAs also work hard and are very friendly and helpful for the most part. There are a few who are not. The nurses do their best with their caseloads, and some are quite caring. However, they are not very willing to be advocates for their patients and almost seem afraid to contact the physician when asked. Our biggest disappointment was with the physician. The physician we worked with was incompetent. He showed no interest in managing my family member's health, was not willing to speak with me regarding how her health issues were previously managed, was not interested in speaking to her physicians/specialists about her care, and never returned my phone calls to speak to him. I only physically saw him once during the 5 weeks my family member was here. We will never use this facility again. It may be fine for someone who is overall health and just needs rehab but not for someone who needs more medical assistance.

DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVE ONE HERE IF THEY ARE ON A LVAD MACHINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The physical therapist team is amazing. The CNA nurses work extremely hard as well. The RN's are another story. My mother is an LVAD patient. The RN incorrectly changed her. When she was paged to come to the room the wait was over 40minutes!!!!!! I had to call the head administrator to finally get someone attention. You love one will wait all day to be attended too. For the life of me I don't see how this place has not been hit with several lawsuits!!!!!!

The Lead OT Melissa is out of this world FANTASTIC!!!! She was warm, caring, and compassionate. We couldn't have asked for a better therapist for our parent. She is the reason we recommend Manorcare West to everyone we know. If they don't promote her in that company, it's a CRIME!!!!

The nursing care at Manor Care West is very uncaring and unknowledgeable. My mother went in for rehab and had to be rushed to a hospital in a weeks time because of kidney failure that the nursing staff said that there wasn't anything wrong. Good thing we got her out of there in time. The food is absolutely disgusting and we found out later that the nurses were just marking her records that she was eating when she hadn't a spoonful in that weeks time. I definitely do not recommend this place at all. I will say that the physical therapy people were wonderful and attentive.

My family and I feel horrible about the care that my mother received during the 3 weeks she was a resident of ManorCare of Palos Heights West. She went there for skilled nursing and rehabilitation due to having a stroke following back surgery . We experienced a nursing staff that was incompetent and negligent! The very first morning there she was not delivered a breakfast, and no staff member noticed. It went downhill from there. A response to her call button regularly took 20+ minutes. The final straw was when an incompetent CNA positioned my mother in a very precarious position to eat lunch, and left the room! With no back strength or control of the left side of her body, my mother fell off the bed and hit her face on the table on the way down, as well as injured her arm and hand. The nursing staff told us that they called the doctor on staff to see her, but when we spoke to the doctor, we found out that never happened! They proceeded to overmedicate her to quiet her down for the next couple of days. The nursing staff never had a chart of what medications and dosage she was given and when. Trying to get a nurse to provide any information was like pulling teeth. We have obviously moved our mother to a different rehabilitation center to not only prevent her from being mistreated but to give her a chance at recovering!

They wanted to do fingering printing on my 95 year old father because his name was flagged during a background check. The social worker never contacted me but sneaked a signature through while a family member was visiting. She didn't fully explain why and what the outcome may be. Reality, if a person is deemed questionable they place them in a private room that costs more to medicare.

This facility is kept reasonably clean and has been recently updated in terms of decor which is nice. However, the food here is despicable. Many of the residents do not eat it be cause it is not prepared well and has no flavor. The day staff here tends to be very diligent and willing to care for those in need; however, the night staff is negligent and talks very loudly throughout the night, keeping residents awake and unassisted. When asked to quiet down, they were not pleased. They have nice rooms to visit in, complimentary drinks, and a nice outdoor patio for people to visit. I just think that the staff is not well supervised or trained. They often do not complete rounds and therefore, do not provide the best care. Overall, I think there are many things that Manor Care can improve upon. I think that quality care is a reasonable expectation and that they should live up to it.
