I have a friend in Vi at Palo Alto. She has the best place in the whole community. It's almost a house on the bottom floor, and it has two gardens. She has a place that's like a terrace that goes out to the garden, and then the roadway at the side. I know a lot of different people in the Vi too, but she is the one that got the best deal. She publishes the newsletter for them. She's on the food committee, and the chef just loves her. He wants to put her on salary because she knows the place better than anybody. She's in independent living, and I think she's very happy with the people that take care of everything. Out of all the places I've been to, I think it's the most expensive. I think there are lots of activities. They provide a whole lot of activities under normal situations. They have beautiful grounds. It's like my friend has her own yard because she's on the lowest floor right next to this whole green area. It's very well-landscaped and beautiful. It's in very good shape. It's costly, but they put the money in for it to be beautiful. For me and my friend, it was close to the church we went to. It was also close to where we've lived and were brought up as kids. The hospital is right across the way in the Stanford shopping center area, so that's the one that's the closest to the doctors.

I did an in-person tour at Vi at Palo Alto, but they couldn't let me have a meal there because of the Covid restrictions. No guests are allowed. I only had one tour. I saw the apartment, which is the main thing. I met some of the seniors walking around as I was touring. Everyone seemed very friendly and accommodating. As I walked down the hall and got to meet the people, they all wore masks (staff and people) and they are proud to say that 100% of the staff and 100% of the residents are all vaccinated. That is saying a lot to me. The beautiful thing is once you're in and you pay the entry fee, you're guaranteed the same price all the way up (even if you need the upper levels of care). The more individual care like the skilled nursing and beyond, you're provided all of that at a high quality service up to the time of death with that base price. The only thing that you would pay for is really your monthly payment, which will go up from 3 to 5% a year based on inflation. The other thing is that it's a great place for independent living without the headaches of homeownership. You're also close to all the restaurants and shopping, which is right across the street. You have the art, the music, the intellectual stimulations, the restaurants, the shopping and the hiking, all in one place. All in a nutshell. The staff members are all enthusiastic and very welcoming. The coverage covers one meal a day, but I understand the servings are pretty big. You're right across the street from all the supermarkets and wonderful food stores.

Vi at Palo Alto was extremely high-end and high-priced. The staff did a good tour and explained everything. It was very professionally done. It's a little too stuffy and high class. They're appealing to Stanford professors. They had a very professional approach. They have lots of facilities, travels, and tours and lots of activities. The sales guy that I talked to was very professional. The facilities are beautiful, very well-maintained, and well-designed.

Of all the places that we visited, Vi at Palo Alto was the most expensive and the nicest. They had nice rooms with lots of lights. They had nice facilities available for the residents. It was close to Stanford. The parking and valet services were also superb. However, what I did not like was you had to make a reservation for dinner.

The Vi is a continuing care community, but I can speak only to the Skilled Nursing portion. I was there for a month for rehab after surgery at Stanford. It was excellent! My mom was in a good one on the East Coast, and I was her caregiver and there A LOT so have familiarity with them. The ratio of CNAs to patients at the Vi was much more favorable than what I was used to with Mom's. When I pressed the call button, someone usually answered within a minute, and a CNA or nurse would be in momentarily. They were uniformly caring and competent. The Vi contracts for the OTs and PTs - and I had excellent ones! There was only one substitute PT I didn't care for, but didn't have to see him again. The facility is very attractive, with many outdoor areas (my room looked out at a small courtyard). The Skilled Nursing rooms are smaller than Mom's was, that's my only nit-picky complaint. The food was above average for institutional food. Overall, can highly recommend their Skilled Nursing.

Vi was five stars. I had my spine fused, so I was there for rehab. The staff was outstanding, and the food was wonderful; you order from a menu and get exactly what you want and nothing of what you don't want. After three days at Stamford Hospital, I was moved there, but my insurance only covered the first 20 days, so I had to move or it would have cost me $5,000 a day, and I couldn't afford that. This place is for very wealthy people; their one-bedroom apartments start at $1M. I had physical therapy and occupational therapy, then we went over to assisted living to sing or participate in as many activities as we were able to. They were absolutely wonderful. The place was just spotlessly clean, and they were kind and caring people. I just cannot recommend this place enough. If I could afford it in 20 years, I would move there.

The facility was clean and had no smell. The staff was fine and accommodating. They had an automobile that brought them to the doctors. They had a beauty shop. I thought it was a fine place to go to and I would recommend them to others.

The Vi is beautiful, it's wonderful, and elegant. Beautiful swimming pools, tennis courts, it's extremely attractive. If it's me by myself I would be living there. The rooms were big and lovely. I have no criticisms of the place, I thought it was just beautiful. The service, the waitress and the food that we had there are very elegant, I have no complaints. I had dinner with them. The food was very excellent. The problem was my partner, the person I would be sharing a residence with is a vegan. We inquired about that, but they said that they don't provide special diets for diabetics or gluten-free diet. But he's a vegan, and they prepared a special dish for him. They don't have special vegan diet. So that's the big problem. If it weren't for that I would move in right away.

How it works
Vi at Palo Alto offers two different pricing options, depending on the percentage of repayment. Your entrance fee and monthly fee pay for your apartment home, as well as access to our onsite continuum of care. The entrance fee is a one-time fee paid when you move into the community, and is based on the floor plan and repayment option you choose. Additionally, your monthly fees – which are directly tied to the floor plan you choose – also cover a range of services including: maintenance of your home, housekeeping, dining, transportation, and more. Should you move or need to access the care center, your independent living monthly fees will not increase, aside from community wide increases, the cost of additional meals and ancillary items as needed.
