I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Terrible facility. Dirty rooms. Patient bathroom dirty. Very slow to answer call lights. Sometimes leaving patients over an hour to be changed or moved. Nurses and CNAs are rude, with a few exceptions. No one answers your phone messages from Administration on down. Outside doctors orders are ignored. On staff doctor has not seen my loved one except for the first day she was admitted. I have asked repeatedly for him to review her records and evaluate her. No response. Dont be fooled by the photos. Patient rooms are nothing like ths photos and patient floors ars not mopped. I can't wait to move my partner to another facility where she will get good care. And I wont have to bring her meals. The food there is horrible and not nutritious.

I find it really hard to believe that this place has a 4 star rating. The only reason I gave it 1 star was because that was the only option available. If there was an option to give it minus stars, I would give it a minus 5 star rating. My elderly mom was sent there from the hospital because she was on IV antibiotics for pneumonia. She arrived there on a sunday at around 6pm and didnt get an IV in her arm until monday at around 6 pm, 24 hours later?! Then after 2 days of my mom being there my mom wasnt showing any signs of improvement. So I started going through the paper work from the hospital to see what kind of antibiotics the hospital had prescribed my mom. Manorcare was giving my mom the wrong antibiotics for 2 days?! My mom has late stage dementia. She cant feed herself, she cant drink liquids without assistance. She is 100 percent dependant on me to do these things for her. I repeatedly explained this to the staff there. But they repeatedly pushing my moms food tray in there without helping my mom eat. They would put liquids in her room on the end table next to her bed but not once did anyone come and help my mom drink or eat unless i went to tell them that she needed help eating and drinking. Most of the time I just did it because they certainly were'nt going to unless told to?! My mom was there less than 2 weeks and by the time she left she had a sore on her bottom near her tailbone that they had rubbed completely raw. I never once seen them use water and soap to clean my mom. They were only using wipes, which is why my moms bottom was rubbed raw. This place was an absolute nightmare. DO NOT send your loved one there.

My mother in law is in Manorcare Health Services for rehab. It’s nice, clean, and the people there are very busy. She’s fed on time, rehabbed twice a day, 6 days a week, and it’s excellent. I have not gotten any complaints from her whatsoever whenever I’m there. It’s just constant coming and going, and checking on her, so it’s good. She said the food’s really pretty good. She’s always had a roommate since she’s been there. The room is not bad at all, it could be a little bit bigger, but there’s no reason for it to be bigger I guess.

Provider Response

Thanks for sharing, Pam! We are glad to hear your mother-in-law has not had any complaints about her care. Also that she likes the food.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I was impressed with Physical and Occupational Therapy and their staff's ability to help with my recovery. Overall, All staff were patient and had a positive attitude. Noemi, Jennifer and Sara CNAs were courteous, helpful and very friendly. I really enjoyed the following activities: Happy Hour, Monday Night Football and Bingo. The food was excellent. Definitely would recommend to family and friends who need Physical, Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation.

I am/was a resident of this facility

My late husband and I have been patients at ManorCare. The facility has always been a place of comfort after Illness. I myself have been at the facility several times for Physical, Speech and Occupational Therapy and each time the staff made me feel like I was family, especially David (Admitting Nurse). There are so many wonderful nurses, nursing aides, therapists hat I cannot remember all the names ……kudos to all. Having the same physical therapy staff helps with the healing process. The staff is very friendly and willing to help make returning patients feel welcome. I would rate the physical therapy staff as excellent. Therapy is geared to individual needs. The cuisine needs improvement, being on a special diet a weekly menu would be nice to have on a regular basis. I would rate the cuisine as average. It has been a good experience during this stay at ManorCare.

All of the Nursing Staff (Sean LVN), CNAs (Noemi), Occupational and Physical Therapy Staff were incredibly caring and wonderful. The food and custodial services has improved since my last stay at the facility. Would highly recommend.

I would strongly advise someone who is considering admittance to the Manor Care facility in Palm Desert to consider your choice very carefully. After waiting for someone to change my top cover on my bed,i took it upon myself to change it and discovered that the top sheet had a mixture of fluid and blood on it-not my own. The cover had not been changed for months.Lack of care is the norm in this facility

We were disappointed and unhappy with Manorcare. My mother was under Medicare, so it was very limited where she could go when she got sick. They really didn’t stay on top of things and didn’t watch over her very well. She felt quite ill there, and then had a urinary tract infection for several months, which is what put her in there to begin with, and they never got rid of it. They just wanted her out, basically. She has early signs of dementia, so they didn’t want her there anymore. They basically just kicked her out without making sure that she was healthy. It’s an older, dated place, but it seemed clean. My dad said the food seemed OK. It wasn’t great, but it didn’t seem bad either. My mom's gone in and out of the hospital to Manorcare multiple times, and every time, she had a shared room and it was fine. There were two people in the room, and it had a basic bathroom, almost like a hospital room. We didn’t feel that they gave her proper care, and at the end of the day, that’s what’s most important: your family member is taken care of medically as well as physically, and we just didn’t feel like she was at all. The staff didn’t communicate with us well at all and had poor attentiveness to the patients. The doctor was never around, so my dad could never meet with him. No one informed the doctor of health problems, so he just wasn’t addressing the patients’ needs. They need to definitely improve on all those areas.

My friend is in ManorCare facility and hopefully this time she will be responsive and do what she is supposed to do. She kind of refuses to do physical therapy, but we are still hoping to be able to bring her home. We just keep encouraging her. I was very happy with the place, the staff, the cleanliness, and the food. She is in the rehab section and the physical therapist is very good. The nursing staff that comes in when I am there seems very good and helpful. The physical therapist encourages her to do something but she refuses.

My mother was there for over 2 months. I was horrified by the prescribing of too many meds. I wasn't heard when I complained. Some got hostile. I wasn't alone. There were other sons and daughters advocating for their parents and having the same issues. We were all extremely frustrated and worried about our parent. There were some excellent nurses who were constrained by the corporate demands that they follow the "rules". The food served was horrible..extremely unhealthy. The physical therapists were very good. But as a whole the company (administrators on up and a few others who went along with the corruption) only care about making money and not the health of the patient.

My mom was in Manor Care for around 5 to 6 weeks. I liked it; it was really nice. There was a lot of socializing for them and that’s what I wanted her to have. The staff was really good. They have Bingo, horse racing, cards and Friday night wine and dine. It was really active and I liked it. Her room wasn’t nice as I would have liked; there was an area where she was supposed to go that was nicer but she was able to come home before moving there.

Our 94 year old mother ended up here after a car accident. She was in physical and occupational therapy for awhile and then took a turn for the worst. The staff in the cardiac area were amazing. They treated our mother with tender loving care and were so sensitive and attentive. She was released from the hospital to this facility and we had no say in the matter but we feel we couldn't have asked for a better place for her to end her days on earth.

Mom is presently at Manorcare. We are very happy with the place and I think they very well took care of my mom, but right now she getting to a point that things are not getting better and they can't do anything for her. We are very comfortable with them. The staff is awesome. I love the place. Mom has been there for almost three years now and we may have a couple of bumps here and there but it's perfectly understandable. They keep the facility very nice. There's no complains about the place at all. They have all kinds of activities going on all the time. They have several activity rooms where people can go.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

After my grandfather had a stroke and complications, we had no choice but to find him a nursing home. After doing research and touring a couple other local nursing facilities with dismal results, I toured Manor Care and our decision was instantly made. In touring the facility, you can easily see the quality of care Manor Care gives it's residents. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and supportive both before and after choosing the facility for my grandfather. The facility was clean and attractive, the residents were clean, looked happy, and were well supervised. There were many social activities for those who were able to partake. As I waited for a tour, the residents and their guests in the lobby sung the facility's praises, one telling me she returns every time she has another operation. Manor Care made the process of admission for my grandfather simple. We visited continually, and each time he was clean, well cared for, and the staff knew exactly where he was and what he was doing. Impressive considering the size of the facility and amount of patients! My grandfather was notorious for trying to wiggle out of the bed, and Manor Care made sure that the staff was aware and padding was placed around the bed in the event he tried to get out of bed without help. They also made sure his bed was as low to the ground as possible to prevent any injury. That said, He rarely had enough time to try to get loose between staff supervision. They were great about keeping us informed about his care, his needs, and any issues that arose. He was eventually transferred to their Hospice care section as his health continued to decline. The staff there was equally supportive and attentive. They kept him comfortable and well cared for until his passing. They helped to make everything as simple for us as possible.I know we definitely made the right choice in choosing Manor Care for our loved one, and I can honestly say that if ever I had to be placed in a nursing facility, I would want it to be Manor Care.
