I am a friend or relative of a resident
About two months ago we had to put my father into a home and looked around the area for a suitable location. Good Samaritan was what we finally decided on, and overall my and his experience with the facility has be superb. The most important aspect so far has been the level of care my father has received. After the stroke my fathers left side has been very sensitive and hard to move without him receiving intense pain. It is very hard to work with him without irritating his left side, but the nurses and aids at Good Samaritan have quickly learned how to help him transfer and do other activities with as little pain possible. Also the aids are incredibly nice to him and visiting guests. Another excellent aspect is the amount of activities those living in the home. Every week there is multiple bingo games, religious services, physical and mental therapies, as well as bus visits to restaurants, baseball games, and other fun activities. Its always fun to go visit my dad and hear about all the things he has done this week. His mood has improved greatly after moving into the home and he has made a ton of good friends. The only negative I can say about the home is that the food is mostly fried and it is hard to eat healthy. The home has said they are introducing a smart living choice menu, so I hope this will help remedy this problem. Overall I would rate my experience with Good Samaritan as excellent.

I visited this facility
When I first entered the facility, I thought it smelled kind of funky. It wasn't a horrible, disgusting smell, but it didn't smell clean and fresh either. In my interaction with the employees, I found a few problems that really upset me. Some of the staff could be seen hiding in rooms, playing on their cell phones and avoiding/ignoring the residents. Also, I overheard a conversation that a couple of nurse aids were having in front of a resident about what it's like to walk in to find a resident dead. It seemed very inappropriate to talk about in front of an elderly person who is in their life's final stages. Other than those issues, the staff were mostly friendly. The food was your regular cafeteria food, but was decent. The staff were very attentive to the residents' needs in the dining hall and were very efficient at making sure everybody was fed appropriately. The facility itself was ok, but the layout was very confusing for a young person, let alone an elderly resident. Overall, the facility seemed pretty nice, but some of the lazy staff need to be replaced.
