I am/was a resident of this facility

I went to Ellis after a week in the hospital for rehab after a spinal injury. I was there for three days. Although I was unsteady with the walker, one aid repeatedly wandered out of sight when I needed help walking to the bathroom, opening a heavy door and getting onto the toilet. Although informing the kitchen after every meal for three days through both notes and by telling aids that I am lactose intolerant and do not drink coffee, I was sent coffee and milk on every tray. Unable to drink them and since it sometimes took up to three requests for an aid to bring water, I got dehydrated. I had to specifically ask an aid to bring me supplies to clean myself up. Supplies were not stored were they were clearly mine and aids were unsure where to find them. I still wonder if my toothbrush was sometimes confused with my roommate's. I was told that blood draws were to monitor Coumadin, a medicine that I do not take. I need prescription pain medication on a regular schedule to manage fibromyalgia. On my second day, despite repeated, ever more desperate requests, my medication was not delivered, leaving me desperate and in terrible pain. I called my son when the medicine was over three hours late. He complained to the manager and the medicine was finally given to me. The nurse then told me he was still safely within his allotted time to deliver morning meds for another forty-five minutes. Ellis is simply not equipped to properly manage medication! This facility is unsafe! Find somewhere else!

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father was here with aspiration Pneumonia. They promised to have someone come in and give him a barium swallow test. In the meantime he was served regular food with skin. I trusted them to know what they were doing, but on the fourth day I came in and he was in just a diaper with no covers and the curtain closed. He was lethargic and had a fever. They sent him to the hospital and he almost died. He is now in rehab which is no better than this one. The services are great, but they fed him regular food on his first night. . BEWARE, be with your loved ones all during visiting hours! Take them home with home care as soon as possible.

My Dad was in there for a week and they almost killed him! He ended up back at St. Elizabeth's with what Ellis House told us was pneumonia. He didn't have pneumonia he had fluid build up because they weren't monitoring his urine output and they were putting frigin salt on his food. The nurses and doctors at St. E`s couldn't believe his sodium levels and that we never got to speak to a Doctor. The first few days he was getting better then it all went down hill. I'm sure some of the staff there is great but not all of them so unless you're able to talk to them face to face and go in to the facility I wouldn't trust them for a second. People tend to get lazy and cut corners when the family isn't allowed in to see what's going on and hold them accountable. When he is released from the hospital he will be coming home and care will come to him.

Elderly close friend there until his passing for several years. Pleasant upbeat staff, clean residents, very good activities, chapel on campus, some very good staff I had worked with in another facility. Thorough doctor assessment and communication. Excellent social work staff and nursing staff at floor desk. Beautiful facility with outstanding grounds. Good care of clothing and personal effects.

I visited this facility

My Grandfather was at this facility for rehab which turned into long term care. He was always cold. It didn’t matter the number of times we shared this with the staff, the blankets and gloves we provided for him were always on his dresser or in the drawers. Never on him until we came to visit. The staff are rude, no eye contact, or even a smile! He passed away today, staff were unfriendly, didn’t care one bit. Why if a man is dieing would you give him a tray full of food? Clearly the nursing staff was not paying attention to my grandfather. I knew he was actively dieing. Many many more disappointments in this facility. Do your research people. This is not a place to send your loved one.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I spent 2 weeks at the Ellis for Rehab due to a fractured ankle. The physical and occupational therapy staff are great. They really helped me get ready to go home. The nurses and CNA were great too they care about the residents. Overall I would recommend the Ellis to anyone needing Rehab.

Please spread the word to everyone that this place is horrid. Never admit a family member or friend here. The administrator is arrogant, unprofessional and condescending. But Karma. What goes around will come around. Some staff members are lazy, non caring, refuse to give residents food and yell at them. Call bells go off for 20 plus minutes and then they wonder why people climb out of bed. This place may on the surface look like it functions well but, once the sun goes down it is a different place. Trying to advocate for a loved one falls on deaf ears. Please heed this warning and don’t ever think or consider this place is fit for humans. The rooms are too hot and the windows need to be open in zero degree weather to help regulate. Found family member propped in front of nurses station, glasses missing and sitting in a short sleeve tee and shorts when it’s 20 degrees out. I am sickened to remember my loved one being tortured in The Ellis Nursing and Rehabilitation.

My friends mother was at the Ellis for rehab after a knee replacement. She had an amazing experience. The rehab staff was caring and professional and the medical oversight was thorough. the building itself is beautiful and you could tell the rehab floor had recently been updated. I would recommend this facility without hesitation.

This place is deplorable. Staff is rude and incompetent. Patient's alarms can be going off for 15 minutes and if someone checks in in that time frame it is a good day. Staff treats family like dogs, they don't even look up at you if you talk to them, and if you ask for something they walk away like they don't hear you. The head nurse on the unit is a LPN , not even an RN and she is allowed to make all decisions about loved one. Ridiculous, they can never get a hold of the doctor if you want to talk to him, EVER. They do not record any negative incidents in the patient's chart, the staff is constantly trying to blame patient and cover up for each other, their main concern is getting "marked" by the state. The elevator inspection is over due by 11 months!! But, they just wall papered the whole downstairs and keep pretty flowers outside to make a good impression, why don't they spend the money on hiring professsionals who actually care about patients. STAY OUT OF THIS PLACE

Horrible Place!! My grandmother's first night there we walked in to find her on the floor!!!! No nurses walking around checking on patients. Nurses and nurses aides are SO rude. They don't look at you when you ask them a question just keep their heads down while you are talking. I went to ask for some water only to find an aide sitting in a chair with her eyes closed!! You need to be there every day to make sure basic things are done. I am totally disgusted with this place! Don't let them fool you. I Do not recommend this place at all!

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mom was in and out of Ellis before she became a permanent resident in January 2015. She died there tonight at 81. She broke both hips at the Ellis since May. The help is incompetent and heartless. The food looks like dog food. When I went to request something for my Mom to drink, they ignored me for 5 minutes then pointed to the refrigerator. I got my mother some ginger ale. I helped my Mom drink tea. She lost at least 35 pounds. This place is deplorable. Stay away if you love your parents.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mother is a patient there now and from what I've observed, the nursing aides are incompetent in doing their jobs. They roll their eyes, give you a bad look with attitude, and then disappear when asked for help. The other night, she needed help and nobody was around at all. She pressed the button for help and nobody came and the nursing station was empty. My mom is not able to walk on her own but she had to go and was adamant to get to the bathroom. She is not very strong but, had managed to pull herself to the side of the bed to sit up with my brother helping her. Even with the bed alarm going off, nobody showed. Luckily, there was another patient that heard my mom yelling and began yelling down the hallway that someone needed help. By this time, my mom was crying and in alot of pain from her condition. It took a very long time before anyone showed. I am so disappointed in the service at the Ellis house and after telling the Administrator about all the incidents, he needs to tell his staff that it is unacceptable and they are there to do their jobs.

I visited this facility

I cannot believe how heartless the aids are at this facility. They actually run in the opposite direction when needed for a unpopular task such as change a patient or taking them to the toilet. They are remiss in checking on patients as required in the evenings and the only time I actually observed them hustling is when the kitchen staff was offering ice cream in the courtyard. If you love someone this is not the place to send them if you want them to get human care.

Beautiful grounds and common rooms. Clean. Lots of emphasis on the grounds...not enough on the patients. We had to remove our family member quickly. If your family member is independent and can advocate for him/herself it may work. My family member could not and needed assistance with several functions. This help wasn't available. Once we moved elsewhere our family member was taken care of with real compassion. Thus we realized what long term care looks like and are thrilled with our move. At this point I wouldn't give Ellis even a one star but that seems to be the lowest so there it is.

My father is at Ellis in Norwood. He stayed there for a year. The care he was getting was very good. He was clean and he was well attended to. They made sure that he is up and moves around. They also made sure that he likes the food. It's not the most modern facility and the place was old, but it was not bad although not wonderful. The place is clean. The one thing that my father was just upset being in that facility was because they shaved his mustache, but as far as his medical care they were excellent.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My grandmother has been a resident in the assisted living center a few times. Sometimes it is just temporary due to her need for rehab after surgeries or injuries. We can not say anything negative about her care at Ellis. She was treated with the utmost respect. I have CNA experience myself, and was very pleasantly surprised by the care and compassion I saw at Ellis. Everyone was treated with dignity and my grandmother was thrilled with how private everything was kept.
