The Hamlet is terrible. Don’t be fooled with the other positive reviews and photos. The first level is beautiful. The second is disgusting. It’s a filthy place. Nurses are very neglectful towards the patients. I was cleaning up after my grandmother something the staff should’ve been doing. No one checked her vitals when she was there for 2 1/2 weeks. She winded up having heart failure, pneumonia, a sinus and blood infection. We found this out because we had them discharge her to the hospital. They were given us a hard time transferring her to another facility.

I have no other experience with nursing homes...maybe they're all this bad. I'm not someone who complains about everything. I understand, there're a lot of patients there. But still... The only good about the Hamlet were her aids Nikki & Indigo. The nursing staff, Lauren & lisa were good. Lauren went way out her way to find out why I wasn't getting call backs from Finance, Therapy, Social Work. That's Social Work's job. And the food's ok. My Mother's 95, but was only there for PT. I live in PA. She got there on a Wednesday. I was there, told them it's really important for her to talk to me, for them to get the phone working. By Saturday it still didn't have a cable. By Friday I hadn't had any calls from them. Orientation, welcome, how things work. Her condition. I called every number on their switchboard. No answer anywhere except Receptionist. No calls back. I could go on...her water bottle empty on the floor. Sun May 1, 5 o'clock I was there. There was 1 aid for the entire wing, maybe 30 patients. Should be at least 3. She was very good, and very stressed. She told us she had 3 other people ahead of her, she'd be there as soon as she could, and she was. Her clothes disappeared 3x. Laundry. Someone had the nerve to tell me I should have inventoried them. Which I did. Didn't matter. Maybe someone should have given some orientation,,,this is how things work here. The biggest deficiency in this place is the Social Work dept., and Administration generally. They should be your interface with the services. Since I live far away Patrice, head of Social work told me he'd set up a meeting. they generally do a 2 week evaluation & then do the meeting. Never got a call confirming when. Had the awful experience of talking to Lamina in Social Work. Unhelpful, uncooperative, border line nasty. This woman should not be talking to the public. "no, there is no meeting, we don't do that..." But he offered. He wasn't even there on the day he suggested. I didn't drive 4 hrs for that meeting, but I could have come a different, more convenient day. When we finally had the meeting he told me he'd call me the following day with details. He didn't. I finally refused to even try dealing with these 2. I stumbled on Christie, who was much more responsive & efficient. We had a release date. Then Finance called me & suggested we disenroll her from her Advantage plan & go to Straight Medicare. I realize now they could finagle another 10 days money out of it. Insisted on keeping her there. I said no way, she's miserable there & not getting the care & attention she needs & she's leaving on that day if I have to carry her out on my back. Her mental state definitely declined while she was there. Honestly, my stress & frustration level was so high I was tempted to call the police. Heartbreaking for all the old folks there who don't have anyone to act as an advocate. In retrospect, I know now that I could have brought her home, gotten all the services & attention she needs there, saved a lot of money & stress. If you entrust your Loved One to this place you will make many calls, not get calls back. This was our experience. I know this is anecdotal, but since I've had her home & gotten services, every professional we've had here whose had experience with the Hamlet has said similar or worse things about this place.

My grandmother is in unit 400 and it is shameful how they treat some of these people. The rooms and the hallways have been “under construction” for years! The bathroom is digusting in her room and they won’t even allow her to have photos or personal affects on her walls or anywhere to make the room personalized. Her bed and furniture, which is basically nothing, is antiquated, and the windows are super drafty. The administration is to blame because the nurses, aides and social staff are wonderful! My grandmother may be forgetful but everyone, staff and residents, love her and always tell us how lively and sweet and fun she is. Unit 400 does not allow her to do any social events and this is what keeps her alive and as alert as she can be! She should be on another floor where she can socialize and live like every human should, with dignity and life. The administration and management should stay there for one night and see if they would like to live there. It needs to be cleaned and updated for health reasons as well as aesthetics. The administration should be ashamed at trapping her and keeping her in this unit when she could thrive somewhere else.

My mom is in The Hamlet Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center at Nesconset. The place is unbelieveable. They're very good, I love it. The rooms are nice. They were just remodeled and are pretty large. She's in the skilled nursing so there's no dining area, they get room service. My mom is being rehabilitated, she can't move by herself. The atmosphere is very nice, and they're very attentive and prorfessional. It's not the Ritz or anything like that, but everything's clean, the services are good, and my mom is being well taken care of.

I was in The Hamlet Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for rehabilitation after a hip replacement. It was more like a nursing home, there wasn't a bathroom, it was a shower room, more like a gymnasium shower room, with four or five stalls. The building was very good, they were doing construction when I was there. They have very good activities, they have very good rehabilitation, a big room with a physical therapist, and they teach us to walk. I wish I could stay there longer. I was on a lot of medication there for pain. The physical therapist was very good.
