My grandmother just passed away; she had been living at Colonial Villa about seven years. She and my family loved it there. The staff is incredibly helpful, nice, supportive, etc. And in her final days she was taken care of so beautifully, and with such care and devotion. I’m so grateful to have had caretakers that made this place a real home to her and my family. Highly recommend!

Provider Response

Thank you for your kind words, Catherine. We are so grateful to have had the privilege of caring for your grandmother and getting to know you and your family.

My family member lived at Colonial Villa for several years. The Dining Staff are the best!! They are compassionate & understand the elderly. The Chef is receptive to discussing dietary needs. The Maintenance Manager does a great job. Likewise, the current Laundry lady & the 2 Housekeeping ladies do a good job! My issue is with the Villa’s Care staff (i.e. Olivia Health). They over promise & under deliver. There is little consistency or attention to details. After a resident fell I was told by one CENA “the residents fall every day. It’s no big deal”. Not sure the resident would agree. The lock boxes for meds don’t lock easily if at all. Would I recommend the Villa – yes!! – there are so many good things about it. Unfortunately for me the “Care” staff is not one of them.

I visited this facility

We went to Colonial Villa. I toured both the independent and assisted living. If my mom would have gone to one of the rooms when she did not need help, they would just switch her to the assisted living (which was still in the same place). There really was nothing that I disliked about it. I was very impressed with the staff that took us on our tour. Her name was Kate, and she was an extremely nice young lady. We talked to an administrator who said that she would help us with anything that she could as far as long-term health care insurance. Their dining room area was very nicely set up where people would go to eat. The rooms were obviously not very big, but they would definitely accommodate one person with a double bed and some of their own furniture. I looked at the menu, and the menu looked very good. The food smelled good when we were there. They have a salon. They offer manicures and pedicures, and they have a really nice room that has games, puzzles, and that kind of thing. They told us that they have a courtyard with a small garden and a fountain, but obviously this time of year it was not something that we went and look at.

I toured Colonial Villa. I like some of the activities they had planned. It seemed like they had some really good fun things that the residents would enjoy doing. The staff members were very informative and helpful, and they answered all of our questions very well. They have a van that they could take folks into town, which was a nice amenity. They had a very small porch area, so they didn't have a lot of outdoor areas. The upkeep was above average. It wasn't excellent or super outstanding, but it was very, very good.

The tour at Colonial Villa was good but the place was small and the rooms were small. The staff was great, we just didn't think that was right for my mom. They had a mixture of independent living and assisted living. Right now, she needs assisted living. They had a lot of resident activities. It was just a smaller community and an older location so it just didn't feel like the right fit for her. That was probably the second, of all the places we visited, that had the most resident activities. They have a patio outside, a garden, and a gathering area. We only had interaction with one staff member there and it was very nice and helpful.

We liked the Colonial Villa, and my sister moved there. It's bright. The staff is very warm and caring and they didn't engage in any hard sell. It was very straightforward, answered all of our questions, and just made my sister feel very welcome there. It's clean, it smells clean as well, and the room that she found was very spacious. The kitchen is very receptive to the needs and desires of the residents, the maintenance person is extremely helpful in solving problems. We did not sample a meal, but we were there at mealtime, and it sure smells good. The nursing staff has been marvelous at monitoring her medications and checking in. The staff has been attentive to her showering needs. There are always people checking in with her to make sure that everything is all set, that she has what she needs and they've been just very friendly and professional. It's been good. She has played Yahtzee and euchre and other things that she likes. They've hit her sweet spot with those two. The basic monthly rent includes meals, it includes weekly laundry, weekly housekeeping that at some other facilities are add ons. There doesn't seem to be any scrimping on the quality of care. Assisted living is not inexpensive, but I think we're getting really good value for our money based on what we have seen out there. I think it's really good so far.

A lot of the food is pre-made from Gordon Foods rather than made on site, but on special occasions the chef really goes "all out" with some delicious food made on site.

My brother is a resident at Colonial Villa and is always telling me how compassionate and caring the staff is He is very well taken care of and it gives me peace of mind. I am very pleased with the staff and all the activities they provide. He has been at this facility 4 years and I have never heard a complaint. Thank you to all those who provide services at this facility for doing a great job!

Good food, friendly and caring staff, and friendly residents. The residents I spoke with seem happy. It's an older facility and not as bright and airy as some other facilities I've toured.

Colonial Villa was really nice. My mother-in-law is in her own apartment. It doesn't feel like an assisted living place or a hospital. The staff is wonderful. The dining room is really nice. She sometimes likes the food, and sometimes she doesn't. They have all kinds of activities there. They do aerobics, they go out to the movies, and they have a travel day once a month where they do activities that surround that region. They might make pottery and they'll have a dinner that's prepared for them by a chef of that particular region.

Colonial Villa was very nice. I like it. It was nice and clean. I like the rooms and the layout. It appealed to me, and the price was good. They have big rooms. Food was good too.

Provider Response

Colonial Villa was my least favorite out of all the places I visited that day because there was an odor. The rooms were big and the whole place was big and less home-like. The people weren't friendly. The lady who showed me around was kind of in a hurry. As she was talking to me after the tour, she was packing her bag. Overall, I did not like it, and it seemed impersonal.

Colonial Villa has support care, but they don't do memory care all the way. If you act out sexually or are combative or a wanderer, they don't keep you. The studios are beautiful. They have nice views, big windows that look out over the trees. I had the food there. It was pretty good. They have a chef. It wasn't gourmet or anything, but my dad would probably be happy with it. I liked it, but I realized my dad needs memory care, and so I'm no longer considering it. I love the studio de luxe that I looked at. It's very large. It has a bar with a sink and a refrigerator. You could probably have a microwave so you could cook in your room a little bit, and they have a refrigerator and their own bathroom. It was a lovely room compared to some places I've looked. The staff seemed very nice. It's really more of an assisted living setting.

We took a tour at Colonial Villa and it was a very nice place. They had a wide variety of apartments. The staff and their dining room were nice. I liked it. However, I thought I liked it more than my mom did and I wanted to keep her happy too. It would have been closed to her friends and close to home for her.

My husband stayed in Colonial Villa of Midland for a respite care. I thought they were good. I knew quite a lot of people who were out there. The facility was very nice and clean. People working there were also nice. Their rooms were equally nice too. I had no complaints about them. I was just sorry it didn't work out with my husband. He demanded a whole bunch of care than what they could offer at that time.

Three years ago, when our mom was 94, she decided to move from Chicago to an assisted living arrangement in Midland. Our family thought Colonial Villa was the best fit for mom, and we were delighted when an opening became available. Now, after three years, we could not be more pleased with how well everything has worked out for mom and our family. From the beginning, mom has appreciated not only the atmosphere and physical amenities of Colonial Villa, but more importantly, the competent and caring staff. The staff is a supportive family and always treats mom with kindness and respect. In a gentle, courteous way, they help mom participate in the wide variety of activities at Colonial Villa under highly skilled leadership. We appreciate the staff's sensitivity in their interactions with residents. The staff provides compatible, supportive and enjoyable meal times and a safe and healthy daily life for all residents at Colonial Villa.
