My mom was in Royal Park of Matthews before she passed. The people there, the aides, were wonderful to her. They had a really nice facility. It was decorated for Christmas, and the place was very nice. The people there were very, very nice to her. The dining area looked pretty good. It was in-house cooked.

Royal Park is a very nice place. The service is excellent and easy to deal with, and the receptionists are great and very helpful, especially Lucky. I would recommend this facility to anyone needing care.

Do not be fooled by the brochure and nice pictures on the internet. We selected this site for my wife's rehab because it is close to the hospital and convenient for relatives to visit. The expeience was best described as custodial. The word care should not be associated with this place. Food was minimal at best. Small amount of cold scrambled egg and congealed grits at breakfast every day. No juice or coffee, and cold bread. Lunch and/or dinner she got something that passed as some sort of vegitable, chopped greens about the size of a golf ball and mystery meat. Everything cold. It was necessary to supplement meals with food from home to assure adequate nutrion. Two showers in seven days, one only out of kindness of the CNA. Calling for assistance for the bathroom at night brought someone who obviously did not want to be there and on one occasion the night nurse stood there eating potato chips. Bed and furnishing are something similar to old dorm rooms. Physical and occupational therapy were one hour each, three times. Although the time was the only bright spot of the stay. She received medication but who knows if all the prescribed and correct meds were received. Do not send your relatives to this place.

Do not send your family to this facility. I read the reviews on this site and I was an uneasy when I read them but I still thought it would be OK to send my mother there. It was close and family members could go. Even with family members being there most of the time your family member will still be at risk!!!!!! Do not send your family members to this facility!!! There is nobody watching them, even after her fall the nurse practitioner did not order XRays. The PT had her walking on a broken leg. There are no bed alarms. The beds are on the floor. Patients need help and my mother after hours of no attendance, fell on the floor the first night she was there. The VERY first night!!! I was told she must be confused to the new place and my mother is not confused. They had her at the nursing station. I asked about bed alarms and they said they don’t have them. 3 days later my mothers friend came into her room to find her on the floor. She hit her head. She went to the nurse station and the nurse laughed. The nurse later said she laughter because she could believe no one helped her. This same nurse did not even get up at the time to help. 911 was called and my mother was removed from this facility. Thank god she only suffered a broken leg. This happened the first fall and was never X-rayed. If she would have suffered a head injury or broke a hip this place would not have cared. There are no people in the halls. No help to be found. They have an advocate roaming the halls which is a joke. No one is available. Your family member may not make it out alive. The food is terrible as well. The food my mom was served was not even worth eating. It was disgusting looking and served late. Lunch at 2 pm. The 4 days my mother was there, every single part of the experience was terrible. They got her dressed late. They used a lift to get her up and left the lift carrier in her wheelchair for her to sit on crooked and half way in the chair which is what prompted the last fall. Be on alert when sending someone to this place. There are no amenities what so ever. No coffee for family. No extras. No towels in the rooms. Rooms are bare. Trash can sits with a bag over the trash. People are too lazy to put the bag in. Staff are sitting in their office far away from the rooms. When you ask for help you are told to find the CNA which has to manage the entire floor alone.

My parents were in Royal Park of Matthews nursing homes. You smell things. You heard things that you didn't want to hear, people crying for help, and stuff like that. And they seemed to take a long time to respond to calls. My parents had a lot of issues when they first started, and so they ended up going to the hospital several times from conditions that stemmed from things that they were having trouble with and didn't get corrected. And so they ended up sometimes going back and forth to the hospital, and they kept having trouble with enough people to handle all the people they were looking after. So it was kind of a rough experience. Most of the time they ate in their rooms, and the food was brought to them. My mother loved her food, and I think my father did too, but he didn't comment on it as much as she did. But as far as food wise, they were pretty happy. The major thing was getting help when they needed it. It was really hard to get anybody to help them when they needed it. Mom and dad were reluctant to do a lot of things, and I don't think they pressure them at all to try anything. I think Mom played bingo one time and they invited Daddy to something. So they did do a few activities, but they didn't get out a lot. It was hard to get things done that I needed to take care of. My father had a rash that I couldn't get anyone to help me get under control. And with several so-called orders through and so-called health care meeting things and writing things down that they're going to get done. It didn't happen. So it was very frustrating.

My husband was at Royal Park of Mathews for rehab. I didn't like it because there was a hallway that always smelled of pee. Maybe somebody peed on the floor, and nobody cleaned it. When they empty my husband's pee, they leave it on the sink and don't rinse it out. One day, I think it was for lunch or dinner, my husband got a salad. I felt so bad for my husband. Thank God I did my groceries before I went to see him that day. So, ever since that day, I've always brought extra food for him. The staff was nice. The only activity they did was therapy.

It has been 17 days after sumitting admission application for my sister. I have yet to get a response despite over 18 calls during the process that I was informed would take 2 days. I suspect this lack belies a deeper issue related to professionalism and the lack of proper care potential residents would encounter. I have reconsidered placing my family here. It will NOT happen!

My dad is a resident of Royal Park of Matthews Rehabilitation and Health Center. The long term is on one side, and the short term is on the other. Then there are two rows of short-term where the nurses are split off. Therapy-wise, it's been really good. They're a little short on staff some days, so the nurses feel like they're stretched thin with the work. As long as you have somebody there, you'll be okay. But if you can't have somebody to be there with you like your family, they may well not take care of them as great as you want them to. But the staff has been nice and worked with us. If you're looking for a short-term stay, and you are looking for good therapy, therapy is great there. But you would need to be available to always have somebody at the facility if your loved one needs a lot of care. But, if they're somebody who did not have a major stroke, they would be great there.

My grandmother developed sepsis after an injection wound became infected at this facility. We asked for a month and a half for someone to care for the wound and no one did until just days before she was transferred to the ER. She is transitioning to hospice and will likely pass as a result of the negligence at this facility. Nursing staff would leave her in a soiled diaper for hours and would refuse to come help when she called. Do not send your loved one to this facility.

Royal Park of Matthews was the worst place to send your love one. My husband was sent there for rehab due to loosing his leg to blood clots from covid. He waited over an hour to get help to the bathroom. Some one finally came and just gave him a urinal and left. This was the first night straight from the hospital. Earlier that day, at the hospital, he was given some meds to make him use the bathroom. He was so scared and told my daughters he felt very uneasy there. That is not like him at all. They didn’t even give him a wheelchair to get up to use the bathroom by his self until the next day. They were giving him the wrong meds and not the correct amount of another. I asked what was going on and the nurse said we have to go by the orders from the hospital. One nurse didn’t even know what meds she was giving him. I have 10 pages of notes. It needs to be closed down. THIS IS NOT A GOOD PLACE TO SEND YOUR LOVED ONES. I also have pictures of different things.

This has been a terrible experience for my mom, if it's not rehab it's the last and least of everything! This morning was the third time my mom had to sleep and sit in her own wast! All night till after 11:00 a.m had to call all upper management to no avail... Not even a return call mom had to call police for the third time. Neglect and Disrespect at it's highest!

Royal Park has gone through administration changes in the past. Currently, I have to share they are doing a great job. Yes they have been burdened with the dreaded COVID-19 at the facility but are doing the best they can possibly do. My mom is there and the precautions they are taking are impressive, the communication has been stellar, and what the staff are faced with everyday is excruciatingly stressful. Thank you for all you are doing.

I only picked 1 star because there wasnt an option foe ZERO!! At first glance, this facility is very nice. That was about it!! My mother was there for rehab. (4 weeks). I dont know where to begin. Food: my mom has an alergy to beans. This was told and noted with the staff. Probably 10 meals were brought to her with beans. They did not care and brought more the next day. One dinner consisted of "two" dried chicken wing! Cornbread was in a baggie that looked like someone stepped on it, nothing but crumbs. etc..etc... Im sure that we spent over $100 ordering takeout and delivery for her, or she would not have eaten that day. Nursing: WOW...abusive! Face to face yelling at my mom over going to the bathroom. I told the head nurse that she was not allowed back in her room. At one point, my mom pushed the "call" button for 1 hour in the middle of the night (she had sweating and heart palpitations) finally she called me at home, I had to call the front desk to get a nurse to go check on her!!!! Unacceptable!! ETC...ETC... Cleanliness: at first it was ok...but after that first couple of days, no towels, washcloths, dirty toilet, and bugs in the sink and floor. Asked on a couple of occasions if they would clean...Finally, I took a wet towel, and mopped the floor and bathroom. It gets better....The heat went out in half of the building, room temp. went to maybe 59 degrees. The maintence person, brought in a portable heater for her room, BUT, said she could only have it until her room was warmed up!!!,,because he only had 3 of them, and had to share it with other rooms!!!! (What??) I was furious!! There is so much more to write, but running out of words. She was there for 4 weeks, Thank God!, and someone was there for her everyday to make sure she was ok. Please, if you have another option, do not take your loved one here!! If so, make sure someone is able to tend to them, because they dont!! I am hoping someone higher up in this company will read this and investigate!!

My mom is currently in there and I will be so glad when she is out. They did not change her beds sheets for over week. They say they will do the patients laundry but now twice I have told them her dirty clothes have been there over a week. They said she refused dinner when I was sitting in the room with my mom. Nope she did not and thank goodness she has snacks because she did not get dinner at all even when she asked about it.

This care facility needs a hidden audit. There are members of the care staff that treat their residents with no respect, dignity or compassion. There is a 30 to 40 minutes wait when care buttons are pushed. They want to keep the residents in the bed if they have mobility issues. The shower chair is shared and looks disgusting. Residents are only bathed once per week unless family insists for more. The food is mush. Small portions regardless of size, everything on the menu is not given out. They are definitely making money on reduction of food quality and quantity. Nurses do not look at the residents for symptoms of other issues. Our family member had swollen feet and Dana said she didn't see it. This problem was ignored for more than two days before medication was prescribed by the on staff doctor. This was supposed to be a good rehab facility. It was hit or miss depending on which rehab staff was assigned. We had to start attending these sessions to get any work done. If you have to use this facility, plan to have someone with your family member most of the time. We hired someone until we could get our family out of this facility. The staff is extremely unhappy and overworked. While we were there, we saw multiple occasions where they were understaffed and required double shifts even when employees did not want to. This is not a good facility despite the nice exterior or the facility.

Do not bring your loved ones here. My brother in law was a resident here. The care he received was horrible. Staff is miserable. I was given the run around by his nurse when he needed to go to ER for breathing problems. She asked if I was taking him then she wouldn’t call 911 due to getting her Med cart ready. Then told me I could call 911and sent me down the hall to other nurses who in turn sent me back to her. Only when I started yelling and a CNA from Scandinavia came helped me did anything get done. Then all kinds of staff were there to help. We were never notified that he had fallen 2 weeks prior and ended up with broken ribs. He was supposed to have double portions of food that never happened. When the nurse brought in his meds she never crushed them in applesauce as written. Due to swallowing problems. She had to be told. Do not allow them to care for your loved ones, they know nothing about treating them with dignity and respect.

I cannot say enough great things about this facility! It is always clean, bright and filled with kind staff members when I visit. I have seen the therapy team do outstanding work with patients and their family members. My family member was here for short term rehab after an injury and I could not have been happier with her care! The team really made sure my aunt was receiving the right therapy needed to be able to return home independently. They even have their own home health that they were able to send her home with to continue making sure she was progressing successfully towards her goals. I am forever thankful for the staff at Royal Park for making such a difference. If you are looking for a great facility I highly recommend going to tour the facility and seeing all of the amazing things they have to offer! Thank you!

My brother-in-law just left Royal Park Rehab, I was amazed how clean, organized, the best staff I have ever witnessed in a rehab or nursing facility. The staff were so kind and personable! Every person from the care staff to the office personnel all felt like family. One lady named Tamera was amazing, it takes a special person to do her job and she is that special person. I certainly hope they pay her well because she cannot be replaced, she is a rare breed treating all patients with dignity, laughter, and kindness. The place was very clean and never smelled, someone cleaning all the time! The only complaint is the food, but when patients are on strict food diets the food cannot have salt and the diet is very bland, and medications can change the taste buds, maybe could work on the food a little better for taste and keeping the food warmer! The rooms are fantastic , very large, clean and the bathrooms are very large and clean as well! I have absolutely zero complaints I wish all rehabs and nursing homes taught bedside manner, past experience in other places it is obvious that some of the staff do not want to be there they were rude, never smile, and not gentle with patients. if they do not like their jobs they need to seek employment else where. The patient and families are dealing with so much grief, worry, and uncertainties and a good staff is priority being compassionate/kind these places are paid graciously for their services... no excuses! Thank you Royal Park

I'm always impressed when I visit Royal Park. My aunt was a patient there and the rehab was phenomenal. She was barely able to sit on the side of the bed when she admitted, but after four weeks she was able to return to her home alone. I couldn't believe the progress she made in such a short time. A family friend lives at the facility as a long term care patient so I have visited both sections of the building. I've been in several nursing homes over the years and I usually dread going to the long term care side because it is such a sad place, but not at Royal Park. The sitting area is very bright with a ton of windows and natural light. The patients are always neatly dressed and well-groomed. Even the patients who obviously can't do anything for themselves look nice. There is no doubt that the staff cares about the patients. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for care for a loved one, especially for rehabilitation.

I took a tour of this facility a few days ago and the building is beautiful! It's very different than most nursing homes I've been in or toured. It feels uplifting and bright and has an overall positive atmosphere, and you're welcomed as soon as you come in. The staff was very friendly and they were all smiles, from management to the nursing staff. Nurses and their aides seemed very attentive and patient to resident needs. During the tour, the activities department was painting some of the residents nails and that was awesome. My grandma is very serious about getting her nails done! The person taking me on the tour said they have a beautician that comes in twice a week too!! She'll love that. I also saw some residents gathered around a table laughing and playing scrabble. That was really nice to see as well. Plus the rooms are a great size!! So excited about getting her into Royal Park.

My mother was there for a few weeks. I would not recommend this facility. Night staff ignores the call bell, they leave patients laying in bed in pain for hours, the food is always cold and never what the patient request. Management does nothing when you share your concerns. Terrible place due to staff!

dddBeware or nighttime care at this facility. My 86 year old mom entered Royal Park for rehab after back surgery. At the time of this writing, she has been there 9 days. For 4 of those days, she began requesting pain medication around 1 am and got NO response until 5 or 6 am. She would sit on the side of the bed crying for several hours, unable to reach anyone at the facility via the call button. After a few days of this, mom began writing down each time she pressed the call button (requests for assistance via the call button apparently are not recorded in the patient's chart). Since she had not been cleared to walk on her own, she could not walk down to the nurses station to get help. Two days ago, after calling for pain medication thru the night, the nurse finally arrived with medication at approximately 6:30 am. Then, at 8:30 am she was given her regularly scheduled pain medication by a nurse unaware that pain medication was just administered. The overdose of pain medication resulted in slurred speech, lack of balance, and incoherent thinking. On the same day of the overdose, our family was to have a Care Plan meeting with the staff of Royal Park to discuss mom's progress. I called the director of the facility and requested he attend our meeting to discuss deficiencies of nighttime care. He did not attend and did not return my call. The Care Plan meeting was attended by the Rehab Director, the Discharge Director, and the Nursing Manager. When I relayed my concerns to the Nursing Manager and asked to discuss this with the night supervisor, he told me "there is no nighttime supervisor." I then requested he ask the Director of Nursing to call me when she returned from vacation the next day and was assured by him that she would call me today. She did not call. Anyone with a friend or loved one in this facility needs to closely monitor nighttime care.

Change was good and needed can't believe it took so long. Now that mark is gone the staff have such great personality. Howard and Maddie are building a solid team and have given back autonomy to the old time managers. Keep going forward. Keep listening the change is great! The patients look happy.

I recently had a family member at Royal Park for care after breaking their hip. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone. The rehab department was wonderful and nurses were top notch. The entire staff including management were very friendly and accommodating. Not 100% happy with the food but that's not what we were there for. I laugh at the families who are so critical yet can not care for their loved ones themselves. Give the staff a break. They work hard for little pay and love what they do. Our family is proof.

I am appalled that "false fake menues" are posted. I have a family member there that NEVER gets her desired marked menus. I commented to her that the menus posted outside nurses station looked good and both she and her roommate laughed and said that menus was for show. This is a shame. These people pay to get fed and should be properly. And they should be offered and brought coffee WHEN they request it. These people are in the final stages of their lives and they should be treated with respect. My loved one is 88 and her mind is excellent.

This place is so awful! Don't let the new building fool you. I would come to visit my mother every day and witnessed the horrible "care" these patients were getting. They were not giving my mother her medications as prescribed which caused her ailment to get worse. The administrator is a joke! He could not have seemed more disinterested in my concerns. He also made a snide remark about how understaffed they were, as if it was a joke. All in all, stay clear of this facility!

The care at Royal Park was awful. I contacted the state of North Carolina. I was appalled. They did not tell me my husband had MRSA. I came in on a Sunday, and he was so sick he could hardly hold his head up; they didn’t even take care of him. I think they were more interested in collecting their money. They actually billed me for days he wasn’t even there and he was back in the hospital. He was still sick one day he couldn’t do anything and they billed me for physical therapy; he didn’t go to physical therapy. The staff was absolutely horrible. Again when I came in on that Sunday, my husband had white chalky stuff running down his mouth. I had no idea what it was. I found a nurse and she said she gave him two Tylenol; I said ‘Did you check to see if he even swallowed it?’ which he hadn’t. It was just sitting in his mouth. They took such poor care of him, they tried to convince him he was incontinent. The problem was that he would ring, and it wouldn’t come for fifteen minutes. It was a horrible experience. I would tell people to check out other facilities; there are much better facilities around.
