Do not if at all possible leave a family member or friend here. It is disgusting. Smells horrible. I could stand in the hallway for very long periods of time without anyone asking if I needed something. Their procedures were not followed on a day to day basis. One day I would be asked to sign in and the next nothing. They sent my mother home without making sure she would have oxygen delivered and ended up going 24 hours without it until we called and checked on it. The rooms were tiny and felt like dirty jail cells with walls. The facility may be old but there is no reason for the lack of updating and cleaning. Janitorial staff walked up and the halls with dirty mops. I am totally disgusted with this place

My step-father was a patient here. After checking multiple facilities, I was so relieved to find one that had plenty of caring staff on duty in a facility that was older, yet still bright and cheery. More importantly, my step-father, who was in need of constant and in-depth attention was well taken care and always clean no matter what time of day I would stop by. I would highly recommend Longwood Health and Rehab for a loved one in need.

My husband was an Alzheimers patient at LHRC for almost 3-1/2 years. I found a few staff members who cared deeply about him, but they were overworked because the facility is understaffed. Many of the truly compassionate people are gone. My guess is that the positive reviews on here are from short term residents who need less hands-on attention than my husband did. Much of the staff doesn’t act as though they’ve had much, if any, training in memory care. Communication and documentation is a major issue here. I live close and visited frequently. Most of the questions I had were met with blank stares, confused flipping through his chart and digital file, excuses or other less-than-helpful responses. Issues that were hammered out in care plan meetings weren’t always acted upon. Management listened and promised improvement, which lasted for a few days and disappeared again. The facility is reasonably clean, but air conditioning and plumbing are in constant need of repair. The front door release was broken and they stationed staff members at the door to let people in and out, some of these people should have been working with residents, not manning a broken door. My husband was unresponsive much of the time, but would tap his fingers to music. He was frequently not included in music or other activities, even after I requested he be included. Despite good intentions on the part of a few of the staff, I felt mostly abandoned and forced to be adversarial in order to insure good care.

Tiny rooms, 2 persons per room with curtain divider. No privacy. Not sure about therapy here yet. But from my current observation I hope I never end up here. Probably going to try and get my mom transferred to a better facility

We have my mother in a nursing home right now called Longwood Health and Rehab, and they are very good. Most of their executive staff is very good, and many nurses have been there for over 10 years, which is rare in a nursing home. Their activity programs and nutritionist are very good, too. My mother has been there for four years, so it’s been a very good place with different levels of care available. The rooms are nice and clean. The food and the dining room setup are very good.

My mom has been in Longwood for over a year and definitely, I wouldn't want to make any changes at this time. The facility was not a fancy place, it's older but it's well taken care of and well maintained. They have separate dining areas for those who need help eating and for those who go back and forth and eat on their own. They have rooms for recreational activities and staff members who lead different activities like painting and arts and crafts. They have a piano area set up for entertainment. They have onsite therapy rooms and doctors who make rounds every day. My mom shares a room with a private bathroom and has medical attention there. The staff was very helpful over the phone and when I went over there to look, I saw a lot of very happy residents interacting with their caregivers, looking comfortable, well cared for and enjoying themselves. The food is fine, some days are better than others but it's not bad at all. I like the staff, they're very good at calling and letting me know if they have questions about my mother's health. If something happened, they told me and what they did about it. My mom likes the way she's treated there, her spirit's better and her risk of falling is less. They could probably improve on giving feedback for changes in some scheduled meetings. I would definitely recommend it to anyone in my mother's circumstances.
