I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

When my wife was admitted she suffered from memory loss and prone to falling. I had no idea what to expect but due to the diligence of the staff her memory loss and ability to navigate without assistance has improved significantly. The entire staff is friendly and willing to assist in any way possible. The facility has bingo, Pastor visits and singing groups that the residents enjoy very much. The facility is kept sparkling clean at all times which is comforting to me. Last but not least, the staff has become like family to me and my wife.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I arrived 3 hours after she was admitted...this is what I found...my mom was put in a very small room, at the furthest point from the nurses station, without a phone or TV and just a buzzer, to call the nurse. The room was maybe 5x8 ' The toilet would overrun when flushed.. so they gave her a potty that sat next to her bed. Her leg was placed on a trash can, laid on its side with a pillow on top and NOT properly elevated while sitting in a dilapidated chair. She was there for rehabilitation after knee replacement surgery. I stated to a nurses' aid that this was unacceptable. She said they were full, no other rooms were available. I asked to speak to someone, The person who was responsible for my mom's admittance came, just before she arrived a maintenance person came to check out the toilet again, it ran over as he flushed it. When my mother arrived she had lunch and then was put in the hallway near the room while maintenance worked on the toilet, waiting in the hallway for hours. The admittance person, after my instance that the room was unacceptable and unsanitary, found my mom another room. They did bust their butts to get my mom into a much better room with a TV, still just a buzzer but also a roommate that wasn't comatose. They also found her a chair where her foot could be properly elevated. I insisted and waited for the physical therapists to evaluate my mom, but I was told that legally, by the therapy director, they had 72 hours before they HAD to evaluate a patient. I was told that the therapist would see my mom before 5pm. At 4:40 I reminded them. They had had plenty of time since my mom had been there since noon and I insisted that my mom needed to be seen before the end of the day. They did. My mom had made great progress at Good Shepherd having PT twice a day, for 3 days and that needed to continue. My mom did not have therapy that day but she did have an evaluation. She had therapy only once the next two days. The remaining days she had therapy twice a day. My mom was told later that the first room she was in was only temporary and they had planned to move her. I doubt that my mom would have been move without insistence and persistence. MAKE SURE YOU VISIT ON THE FIRST DAY if you can not be there to meet your loved one when they arrive at Pine Tree Lodge Nursing Center.
