I visited this facility

I visited the Good Samaritan Society Las Cruces Village independent living, and I liked their arrangement financially for the requirements to move in. I liked that they give you a $75 credit each month for you to buy your meal. That means that you don't pay a flat fee every month, whether you utilize that service or not. That's an attractive option that they offer. I appreciated the fact that they have a space dedicated for a gymnasium. They have two treadmills in there, exercise bicycles, and different things for exercise so that you can go in there and get a pretty good workout. They also have a wood workshop, that's not utilized so much, but it's available to do some woodworking for us old guys that might want to do some of that. It's pretty well stocked with equipment. It's a pretty big facility. The staff is very nice and very helpful. The woman that gave me the tour was very helpful, answered all my questions, took her time, and showed me all the units that they have, starting with a one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and the separate units that are standalone. They have pretty close parking. They are independent living people. Some of them are using walkers or wheelchairs, but they still move around by themselves. They've got older buildings, but I would like a two-bedroom and it's in the cottages that are out. They're not in a multi-floor building. They're pretty spacious and well designed. Those facilities have got a full kitchen, a bigger refrigerator, and a stove. The drawback is that they don't allow pets and I have two little dogs.

The Good Samaritan Society is an older facility. It's well maintained but older. I met Beth. She is the one who took care of me each time I went. She is very, very polite and very willing to assist. I met the director. He, too, was willing to speak with us and share information. They have apartments, but I would call them casitas. They're little houses that sit outside of the main building, and that's really what I was interested in for my mother. It was a two-bedroom with a bath, and it had a kitchen with a living area. She could have her car there. It is very comparable in price to the other facility. I went into the dining room. I did see the residents there eating. They were sitting in the nice dining area and enjoying the meal. They do have an auditorium. For example, my granddaughter took piano lessons for a while, and she had her piano recital there. The residents are invited to any kind of extracurricular activity like that. They have a library, a beauty shop, a pool, and a workout room. Activities are provided. The grounds outside are nice. There is grass, flowers, and room to move around. To me, it's more of a homelike facility and not so much an adult-care facility. It has more of a homey feeling for me. The one concern that I had there was that Mother would have to walk from the outside into the main building, and it was a pretty good distance to get to the dining room. If I had any concern at all, that was my concern about that facility. They have a system where the residents are asked to check in with a desk clerk by ten o'clock every morning so that they know that the resident is up and around and OK, and if they don't check in, well, then someone on staff is sent to check on the resident. It is a larger facility. It is a very nice facility, it's well maintained, and it's an older facility. The people are friendly, but it's an OK place.

I visited this facility

My brother had a stroke. He was hospitalized for 15 days then transferred to a rehab facility from there his improvement was so great but they wanted him monitored for a bit longer so it came time for a nursing home. Good Samaritan accepted my brother knowing his deficits....my brother arrived at 2:00 P.M, by 10 PM he was sent to MMC. While someone at Good Samaritan was doing rounds they came in his room and found him unconscious on the floor where he had fallen. He ended up having a brain bleed and was shipped out to El Paso and their excuse was we didn’t have enough staffing and there was no way we could keep him in bed. As a healthcare provider myself I know many nursing facilities have bed alarms that will ring the front desk if the patient were to get out of bed, why this was not used I would not know so my brother was in their Care less than 10 hours and he was injured because they “did not have enough staff” WOW !! I am sure the bill for his stay went out within 8 hours though.

My friend and I visited Good Samaritan. They liked it, but they have a dog and couldn’t bring it in. The lady was helpful and nice. We saw the little cafeteria area, which seemed clean and nice.

I only met one staff person at Good Samaritan Society Las Cruces Village, and he was great. He gave us a lot of information. The facility suited our needs very well. The meals and the dining facility were OK. They do all kinds of things. They go to movies, and they have lectures. They have the most gorgeous auditorium, they have a swimming pool, and they have a workout room that is open 24 hours a day. I liked where it is. It was in a very beautiful location near the university. They have transportation to anywhere you want to go.

This is a multilevel community or continuum of care including memory care facility. The apartment buildings are small and old. They are dark; however, the facility was very nice. The people are very friendly, younger, and more interested in activities. The dining room was lovely. The meal time was very flexible. The food was wonderful.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

As a caregiver, I have worked for several residents at the Good Samaritan Village. I have also spoken with many other residents during meals in the dining hall. I did not hear a single complaint, which is remarkable! The facility is arranged with a couple of two story wings such that every room has a small balcony or patio. Each wing also has several lounge areas which seem to be used often for card games and gatherings. The dining hall, auditorium, and indoor pool are centrally located. They even have a video library where residents can check out videos. The rooms/apartments are spacious and well lit and the grounds are well kept. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It is well named, as it does feel like a Village where the residents are comfy and happy. I feel good knowing that a place like Good Samaritan is available for when I will need it someday in the future.
