My mother was in Country Villa for around two weeks. It was almost dirty, and whenever I went there, it smelled bad. They were not organized in regard to her medications. The cleanliness was poor. However, there was one nurse who I really liked.

Country Villa La Mesa Healthcare Center is a smaller nursing home and VA contract facility. It is the only one available for long-term care. My dad has been there for two months now. The level of care is good, so far. The room isn't private, but my dad is fine because he is by the window. They have daily activities inside, but I wish they had more outside activities. The in-house activities are great, and my dad is participating. The food is normal. My dad has a healthy appetite, so he is always looking for more food. The facility’s location is not close to me, and it's small, so I wish there was a little bit more room for my dad to move around in.

For the love of God and your Family member, do not use this facility. We reported them to the Dept of Health and Safety and they substantiated three regulatory violations. They are not showing up yet in most site reviews yet... but they will once the sites update their information. No one walks around this place... go check it out, and you will see. They do not encourage residents to walk... but are happy to have them wheel around in their wheel chairs. Of course that is if they are not throwing them in bed for most of the day (Makes their work easier). My Father required assistance with feeding after his stroke. He did not get it.... he just continued to shrink. At one lunch we joined him, and there were two other residents at the table. One of them ate their pudding and left. Really, they were in the area where residents needed help. The other resident did not eat and rolled away. To their credit, they rolled them back, but never followed up to ensure they ate, so they ended up rolling away again. Let's talk about my Father. Are you sitting down? The resident doctor and the facility changed his orders to comfort only, same as a DNR without our approval. He was declared incapable of making medical decisions by two Drs because of dementia. Really... really.... OMG we flipped out and that is why we ended up reporting them to the Dept of Heath and Safety that substantiated this and two other violations. They do not actively manage their care. My Father was sent to the hospital for a blood transfusion because of low hemoglobin. He was out for two days and came back. But guess what we found out later, he never got the transfusion and they did not know it. So two weeks later he was at a critical level and he went back again. Diapers only for my dad... they did not encourage him to use the restroom even when we were there and he wanted to. I guess it was too much work to help him. I could go on and on. My father passed this week and I am convinced his level of care contributed to this. If you care about your loved one... find another place. The reviews are too high on this place and its time people spoke up. See Yelp for a review that was posted in July of a similar situation.
