I am a friend or relative of resident
I have been to Huntsville manor many times visiting family and friends, most of the workers are fantastic others are there for a paycheck only and you can tell this very quickly.the nursing home is understaffed for the care families are paying for.insurance also.the can staffing is based on how many people are living there.this does not mean a certain amount per shift either,I have seen 2 aides on night shift to care for 96 patients, most sleep at night but still have to be changed turned, answering call lights ,that go off all night.you have the screaming patients, that keep others up you have the fall risk patients whose alarms go off constantly, there are 3 halls ,and too many patients it takes 2-3 to turn and change pull up in bed .aides can only do so much...do the math...2 aides..."96 patients....8 hours a shift...how much time is allotted per patient.there are also some workers more worried about there cell phones and hiding out than anything else.i also was told that a nurse is supposed to be in the. Dining room during meals this rarely happens,if they do go in they stay a few minutes and leave.the administrative staff ,they are plentiful ,they also help.....when a call light comes on they will go from room to room to find an aide and tell them....instead of seeing what a person needs.aides are blamed for everything....I ask for abox of milk for my aunt ,and was told the kitchen was closed,I ask about the nutrition room and was told it was nolonger stocked with snacks....I was talking to another patients family member and was told his relative was losing weight.....makes me wonder why. ,I wish my family would move my aunt, maybe in time they will.so I stopped taking her snacks to put up for later when she told me staff we're eating them.i don't know. How the administrator lets this go on or if she cares as long as the place is making money

I visited this facility
I would be lying if I said if Huntsville Manor did not try to be a good nursing home. I'm sure they tried, but they were extremely understaffed. The CNA's were being overworked. One woman had been working an entire month straight, weekends included, and she was only granted one day off due to the fact that her grandmother died. When you walked into the home you were immediately overcome by the stench of urine. You could hear residents groaning and crying, and I found out later that it was because they had bed sores the size of which you wouldn't believe. But sometimes the staff needed protecting from the residents. One woman was attacked by a resident and was later reported after she let him fall after he tried to strangle her with a cord. How can this be stopped? They simply need more money. Who would want to work 12 hour shifts cleaning feces off of resident while being paid minimum wage? We need to take better care of our elderly, but to do that we need to take better care of our caregivers.
