I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My Grandmother was in here for a couple months and thank God we moved her somewhere else. She Hated it there. She would need help and pushed the button, and it would take them an hour and a half minimum to get to her. Some times they would come and turn the call light out and not even help her, and then not come back. She was left in a wet diaper all night long. She was told multiple time that she was a baby and to stop complaining and that she pushes the light way to much. She was talked to like she was a dog. CNA's shouldn't talk to a human that way. It was horrible. I hate this place. It doesn't even deserve one star.

The physical, speech and occupational therapists are awesome. The doctor, PA, cna's and adminstration left a lot to be desired. My mother fell here several times, developed a UTI and had a mysterious setback that no one can explain. Phone calls and emails weren't returned promptly, if at all. Calls to the nurses went unanswered and I'd often walk out to see them out in the hall talking and blatantly ignoring the call button of not just my mom but others. I intervened on several occasions to get assistance for other patients. Some of the CNA's were apathetic and downright rude. If often find my mother in urine soaked diapers and once found feces on her bed. It was a nightmare. Food was often brought cold and they forgot too bring it twice. The administration was apologetic but seemingly unable to engorge better care. It is aesthetically pleasing. There are activities to get involved in and an on-site restaurant. But all that glitters isn't gold and I would NEVER put a loved one here unless they can do for themselves. These folks come when they want and do a sorry job when they arrive. My mother was there over a month and I overheard several other families complain as well. I look back on the experience and feel traumatized. Thank God my mom doesn't remember most of it. If it wasn't for the therapy, I would have removed her but looking back on it I should have removed her. They were awful.

They are grossly understaffed. There is also very little consistency in care. Certain nurses and CNAs are excellent and I am grateful for their care. When they are working my dad is in good hands and it shows. They deserve a very high rating which will be reported to their supervisors. Unfortunately, other CNAs and nursing are only interested in doing the minimum. On those days my dad is left in bed with poor hygiene, not eating his meals, and even prescribed procedures undone. With the amount of money they collect per resident per month they should be providing excellent CNA‘s and consistent care. It is sad and disheartening.

I am making a complaint about the services at Huntersville Oaks 12019 Verhoeff Drive. This morning August 17, 2018, the services and knowledge of the work duties are horrible, need more teaching and definitely need to stop passing the bucket from one person to another. I request for a supervisor for over an hour and no one came too assist. I been here and visiting my mom since July 23 and seen the most unprofessional and untrained staff in my life. These seniors that can't do are at the mercy of strangers. It's so sad because if I don't stay the whole day and night, some things won't get done correctly. I feel like I have to supervised them and I don't get paid for it. Please send someone to reteach the staff and be more informed plus prepared with supplies before changing wounds and open incisions.

I visited this facility

During the last weeks to June 23rd, 2017, our mother was at the Huntersville Oaks Nursing Facility. She was at the Garden Terrace Nursing Unit. During this time, our mom received care and support from the nurses, the CNAs, speech therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist and finally from the Hospice team. Our family is so grateful for the wonderful care our mom was given by all the aforementioned above during her last days on earth. On June 23rd our mom went to rest with the Lord. All were so very supportive to our family and dad, who is also at this nursing facility. He is at the Forrest Hill unit. The nurses at this unit as all great as well. One of the nurses, Ms. Anne and her grand daughter even took out time to attend our mom's memorial service on June 25th. Our family is so very happy with the love, care and support our dad is receiving.

My mother was in this facility for about a year and a half. Most of the staff was very nice but they are overworked and understaffed. I helped other residents whenever I could and/or found staff to help them. It is a nice looking facility and they have some good entertainment. I love the rose garden. I think it is difficult to entertain the residents all day and they do sit around a lot with nothing to do. Most are in wheelchairs. There were times when my mom needed help and I could not find anyone and it was beyond my capability. Food was so-so. Upper level staff changes quite a bit.

I visited this facility

I enjoyed Huntersville Oaks a lot when my mom was in rehab there. I was looking for long-term care, but they didn't have a bed available. Her room was very nice. The food was really great. They had lots of activities and took them out shopping. They have somebody come in to sing and play music. They had an on-site hair salon and massage room. It was very nice. Her therapist was very nice and answered a lot of questions and gave me a lot of information.

My 95-year-old mother-in-law is currently in a short-term living section at Huntersville Oaks for therapy; as a result of a bad fall. Mom also has dementia and is blind. Up to the time of her fall; she had lived with us for 3 years. We were concerned about how mom would be cared for and treated (after hearing all the horror stories in other posts). I don't know what area of the facility the other posts were written about, but, mom is in the Lakeview Inn neighborhood. The doctor caring for her is very professional, thorough and informative. Every staff member that we have encountered, or, observed have been friendly and caring. If my husband or I have a concern or question about anything; we have never been made to feel that anyone was too busy to respond. We have been there several times when her dinner was delivered promptly at 5:00 pm. It has always smelled and looked delicious and according to mom, it tasted as good as it looked. Every meal is nutritious and there's usually too much for her to finish. There are times when mom may have to wait 10 or 15 minutes for someone to respond to her call button (when she pushes it, there is a light outside her room that is activated). We realize that the staff is not standing around and waiting for her to indicate that she needs them so that they can see who can be the first to answer her call for help! They are caring for more people than just our loved one. Mom will require long-term care now. Unfortunately, there is a waiting list for an available bed in the long-term residence sections. We can only hope if she does have to go to another facility, that she will be shown the kindness and care that she's been receiving at Huntersville Oaks!

The facility is aesthetically pleasing and, unlike other faciities we visited, it doesn't smell. Most of the staff members were very nice, but at least two should not have been in a caregiving role and I felt nervous having them there. The place is severely understaffed, and on weekends it is hard to find any staff member at all. The call bells ring and ring and no one comes.

Huntersville Oaks is severely understaffed, both on the rehab side and on the long-term care side. Although the place is attractive by local long-term care standards, I recommend choosing care over aesthetics. It's seems that the bottom line takes precedence over adequate staffing and service excellence training at this facility.

Nice facility with mostly private rooms, what staff they have are mostly very good just NEVER have enough help. Takes too long to get help of any kind. Management must value showing a profit over the care of their patients. Staff they have are overworked always. Each and every day not just every now and then. Needs improvement.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I chose to go to Huntersville Oaks following knee replacement surgery as I knew about it and it had a good reputation. Unfortunately, my experience was a nightmare and I couldn't wait to get out of there. I shared a room with an elderly woman who had dementia and/or was just nasty. Her family said she was nasty and knew what she was doing and apologized to me twice. I asked to be moved twice and was denied both times. I was told I was her second or third roommate. Since I was relatively independent, and my "roomie" demanded so much care, I didn't receive much attention from staff. I never was told how to get a basin to wash in the morning so until I was cleared to use the shower, my option was to use the sink, which was in an open hallway between our rooms. My roomie soiled herself several times and the washcloths used to clean her were left on this same sink, where I was to brush my teeth, etc. The PT and OT staff was good, but admitted there was no schedule, so they popped in at odd times and you never knew what you were doing. I had pulled my shoulder in the hospital and as in extreme pain. It took over 90 minutes to get some meds for it one night. That night nurse was very snippy as was the aide. Food was awful. They kept bringing me iced tea when I requested milk at each meal. There were some good nurses there, but the general feeling I came away with was "we really don't care about you." However, if you have an elderly person who demands a lot of care, this is the place for you. I will say they took exceptional care of a very difficult patient. I think I paid the price for that though.

My mother is in Huntersville Oaks. I like the facility -- how it looks, the layout, its rating. It is just a beautiful place. The staff is adequate. I will recommend them to others.

My father was at Huntersville Oaks. The facility is wonderful as well as the nurses, but the doctor that was there was awful. He would not communicate with me at all the entire time my father was there. And then the one time that he did, he hung up on me.

I visited this facility

I always know about Huntersville Oaks as I live close to it. The staff was very friendly, efficient and everything about it was positive. The rooms were very large, efficient and clean. The food was very good and the dining room was very spacious and very nice. They have games and movies. I think they must improve on getting to the rooms quicker when the patient needs help -- however the place was secured and safe enough.

Huntersville Oaks is where my mom went for a rehab after her hip surgery. The physical layout itself is a bit nicer than where my mom used to stay in. Visiting there was also much more convenient for us because we live in Huntersville. They have a very nice staff and I can't think of any time I have been there when I hadn't seen three or four staff members within the close range of mom. Frankly I would love to be able to transfer my mom there, but they don't have a lockdown facility. My mom's dementia has her wandering and she is constantly trying to find a way out, so it is a shame that they don't have a lockdown unit that mom needs. It is also quite expensive.

I visited this facility

I visited this facility while helping a client who was seeking long term nursing home care. The facility is very large, with probably close to 300 beds, and many shared rooms. When we entered, we were immediately addressed by a staff member but she did not make eye contact with us and never smiled. I felt as if she was not happy to be at her job that day, and my client stated the same to me. The facility was not exactly dirty, but also not exactly clean. There was a musty smell in the air and the appearance that updates could be made to the facility in general. I will say that it seemed as if this facility was adequately staffed, as there were several nurses on the floor during our tour. Despite the number of staff however, I did see several residents sitting in wheelchairs, looking somewhat lost, and appearing as if they could use assistance or maybe just a little company. I did not see any staff members address these residents. Perhaps a planned activity or even some one on one time between staff and residents would be beneficial. My client ultimately decided against choosing this facility and I was in agreement with her about that choice. I would not recommend this facility for long term care and would not place a loved one there if the need arose.
