Understaffed. Few great staff members, but many more who ignore the call lights for hours at a time. Would you want your mother sitting in her own waste for hours? Many of these residents don’t have a voice of their own. I fear for them, as this is a grim fate. For the cost, you would think at a bare minimum they wouldn’t just turn off a call light without asking what the problem is.

My aunt was in this facility following a stroke. We did have some amazing nurses and caregivers, but unfortunately our overall experience was negative. I had a care plan meeting where I was told my aunt gained 1.5 pounds and was making improvement. Three days later, was told by her nurse that she was steadily loosing weight and not eating, had lost 9 pounds. The rooms are terrible. She fell 4 times in the span of 3.5 weeks that I know of. She was bathed and wheeled down the hall in nothing but a sheet. I would not recommend this facility to anyone or their loved one.

Please be clear when reviewing this facility which location you are reviewing. Is it the one on Maelou or the one on Buffalo St? My mother has been in the one on Maelou a few times. The nursing and CNA staff are great. I can’t say that for the therapy manager and/or social worker. They do not communicate well. We had to do all the work in terms of placement options for my mother. If you are discharging someone who will need 24/7 care, wouldn’t it behoove everyone to know that in time to find ongoing care? Why don’t they have work cell phones? Leaving messages on an office line is archaic. So is asking families to meet with them during the day Monday through Friday before 4 pm. The days of daytime availability are gone for most people. It’s 2018, folks. Get with the program.

The staff in Elderwood at Hamburg is doing their job. The food is good, and they have decent amenities and nice grounds. My father's room is pretty austere but, it's fine. They have activities for the residents, although he doesn't participate in them yet. It's awfully expensive, but he has improved dramatically. They're doing a good job.

My mother is in permanent long term care at the Hamburg facility. Our issues are not with the staff - they work hard and try their best. But the place as a whole is very dysfunctional - classic case of the left arm doesn't know what the right arm is doing. The result is high turnover, workers working long hours, resulting in overall mediocre care. My mother has experienced issues with them changing medicines without advising her, frequent occurrences of boils on her legs and arms, and most recently, spiders in her room. She gets bathed twice a week in lukewarm water. Food has deteriorated. Hopefully the state gets involved and the owners (whomever they are) stop looking at their bottom line and start focusing on their mission - caring for thier patients.

They were very attentive, it was very clean, and my mom was very well-cared for. They answered family questions and concerns; they were just really good. Elderwood was very nice, there were rooms for the family to get together other the patient care rooms, and the outside grounds were really nice. They had lots of nice outside seating during good weather. It was really nice.
