I am a friend or relative of a resident
Run......do not even think of going to this facility if you love your patient. The facility is dirty. My husband who was there recuperating for rehab after brain surgery begged them for rubber gloves so he could clean the bathroom which he shared with 4 other people. Water leaked from the bathroom and they claimed the patients wet the floor....the floor was flooded in the bathroom and ran out into the his room where they threw towels down and didn't bother to mop the floor, a fall hazard and he was listed as a fall risk. He had to hold onto to the wall, bed, etc. to get to the bathroom and the therapist mentioned this to me when I questioned why he wasn't given a walker to use. You never see the doctor except for the first day you arrive, after that he only talks with the nurses and reads the patient's file. He had to have stitches removed after his brain surgery and they didn't know how to do it and the girl had to go get someone to help her. He complained of feeling sutures still in his head and we found that they missed some. He was suppose to be on a cardiac/diabetic diet and received fruit juices and high carb meals every day. The first day he had to go out to see the oncologist, he was gone from 11 until about 6 p.m. and when we got back there were two trays of food left in his room. He was so hungry and got back in ahead of us and ate the lunch tray which had been there since noon. It was a hot turkey sandwich. I was so afraid of food poisoning. When we asked why they left the tray there, the aide said she just wanted to let him know she brought his lunch tray!!! If you understand Jamacian, you will do fine since 95% of the staff is from Jamaica. People have free range of your room and we had things stolen even with his room being right outside of the nurses station. He was there for 8 days when we questioned why he hadn't had a change of sheets. We had to take our own disinfectant sheets in to clean his trays and night stand. Smoking is allowed there and the first thing you smell when you walk in the door is smoke in the hallway. They claim you can smoke because it is a resident facility and not a hospital. However, the smokers go outside by an automatic door and smoke and anyone walking down the hall walks over the tripper and lets the smoke in when the door opens. He had to wait a week before he could get his TV fixed which was broken from day one. All in all, I wouldn't take a dog there. Rehab was not consistent. It wasn't until he was about to be discharged (after I questioned the doctor when I caught him out at the nurse's station one day as to why he didn't see him personally instead of reading files and how did he know how to treat patients if he never saw them) that rehab was bumped up to and hour and a half at a time instead of regular times each day tiring him out. Then we suddenly were discharged........The first day there, we arrived late in the evening and he had come from the hospital directly to the rehab center. We asked if he could get something to eat since he hadn't eaten all day. They brought him a tray with a filet of fish on it and I explained that that was the one food he wouldn't eat, could they get him a sandwich or something else other than that and I was told it wasn't like it was a restaurant and you could order what you wanted. So he didn't get any replacement and he didn't eat the fish. This place should be closed down, it is only run for profit and not for the care of the elderly or sick. Please don't use this facility. I found out later people had passed away there due to infections, lack or care etc. I was so glad to get him home and still am going to report them to Dept. of Aging
