I’m seriously looking for a reasonably priced clean well run nursing facility that I would be comfortable rehabilitating in after a stroke and other health problems. The Harrison at Heritage is that facility with friendly helpful staff, from the receptionist to the nursing and therapy staff. Having seen a number of facilities over the years the Harrison stands out

My husband was at Harrison at Heritage for about 6 days. It was just something that I think the hospital recommended. They were supposed to be a skilled nursing facility but they didn't do anything. The physical therapist was very good. Nobody there listened to anything. My husband didn't have a bath for 4 days and for the 2 baths he did have while he was there, I had to fight somebody to get him a bath. He begged for help one day while I had him on camera. He was begging this lady to help him get his pajamas on, and she just looked at him and shut the door. I had a doctor come in and I had him on camera. He asked my husband how he was, and my husband said OK. He asked if he was breathing okay, and my husband said yes. He turned around and just said, "Okay, have a good day." And as he walked down, I was on speakerphone, I said, "Aren't you going to listen to my husband's chest because he had a bad cough?" He said, "Oh, yeah. I was just going to do that," while he was walking out. That's just some of the things we ran into. They just didn't do that much with him. I realized they were shorthanded, but you don't treat patients like that. You don't shut the door on them when they're begging you for help because they can't do it themselves. It wasn't a nice place. When you walked in, it was beautiful. It smelled wonderful. When you walk back to my husband's room, it smelt terrible urine. And after about three days, I just couldn't take it. I couldn't even sit there with a mask. So they put him in another room and they made it a very tiny little room. Otherwise, except for a little urine smell once in a while, it wasn't bad. The place was pretty clean, I have to be honest about that, but they didn't come in and clean his room so much. It's just one thing after another. It wasn't pleasant, so we took him out. They didn't have the time. They didn't have the people to help, and that's not the patient's fault. The place was nice, but the place doesn't take care of you. It's the people in it. He wasn't taken care of that well. Excluding the nurses, the staff who greeted you and who talked to you in front, were very nice. The food was terrible. He didn't eat anything. While he was there, we had to bring him food every day. It was obnoxious. They need more aides or nurses to take care of the people. Two aides cannot take care of 20 people. They were stressed and overworked, so they took it out on the patients, and that's wrong. They need to hire more good help.

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE PLACE!!!!! My father was there for 21 days and was only showered twice. The nurses all have two answers when asked about the patient "I don't know" or "that was not on my shift". Literally, all that is done there is pass the medications and pass the food trays. The rest of the time your loved one will lay in bed and stare up at the ceiling (if you don't find them on the floor for up to one hour). There was a care plan meeting that I attended the first couple of days he was there, but that care plan was obviously not communicated to the nursing staff, cause it was not followed and they never knew anything about it. Three different times I had to replace parts of his shaver cause they would drop it to the floor and never pick up any of the pieces that fell out. Finally I taped it shut with black electrical tape and the next day one whole piece of it was broken off!! Once I found him freezing and practically nude. Someone was supposed to be changing him and they left the room and never came back. I did complain a lot to the administrators to no avail. Basically, once you are there, they are getting paid by Medicare an insane amount of money for "skilled nursing" and you have no recourse. Unfortunately, there was no such thing as a skilled nurse available at any time during my father's stay. They were all very apathetic and unfamiliar with my father's needs or care plan.

My mother-in-law never experienced eating because she was sick to her stomach right after being admitted there for rehab. Three meals were served but she never ate and nobody seemed to care. They parked the tray in front of her and walked out. Because she was there for rehab, the nurse asked for her to call when she needed to use the restroom so they could assess her level of movement, not considering that she was very pale in color, couldn't stay awake, was complaining of nausea, and belly pain. The staff was summoned numerous times to help her get to the restroom. They would come in to help and make up an excuse and leave, never to return. After standing at the nurses desk waiting for someone to acknowledge me (the medication aid literally stood next to me and never addressed me, not once) I went back to mom's room. I decided to get her up myself and take her to the restroom because she had already lost control of her bowels. She vomited and pooped blood in the restroom. She was miserable! I returned to the nurse's desk and patiently asked a nurse to come and observe mom's suspicious looking vomit. The nurse determined it to be coffee-ground emesis, indicative of a GI bleed. She stated she would notify the provider for orders. She eventually stated that fluids, stat labs, and an x-ray would be ordered and done immediately. The next day, nobody knew anything about the fluids (still hanging on the IV pole), stat labs, or x-ray results. The NP ordered more which (hours later) showed an active bleed and an emergency need for a blood transfusion. My mother's blood pressure was 109/36, her Hemoglobin was 5.1 (7.4 on admission the prior evening) and the staff didn't seem to care, except the NP and one CNA (her name started with a 'V.") In addition, my husband called to speak to admissions to have his name put on the list of contacts and was told his call would be returned within 2 hours...5 days later he got that call. So, the day she was transferred on a furlough to get "one unit of blood" and then return back to the rehab center, the hospital kept her because she was GRAVELY ill. She ended up with a 6 day hospital admission. OVERALL, standing at the nurse's desk and watching the staff pass by with zero recognition, saying "I will get her a barf bag" and coming back 30 minutes later, "she needs longer O2 tubing to make it to the bathroom, I will get that and then take her to the bathroom" and coming back 20 minutes later, changing out the tubing and walking out... caused her to use the restroom in her pants. This is so humiliating to a person. What a way to impress the new resident! Then, getting STAT orders and not following through with them caused a delay in care that could have killed her due to the blood loss. Sure the place is pretty, but the care was simply awful. I got the impression that "it's not my job" is a common statement made in that facility.

On June the 11th I fell in my home and broke my femur. Due to this break, I spent 3 weeks in the hospital and rehabilitation hospital and went to Harrison Heritage on one July 2nd. I spent ONE MONTH and day. That 1 day is due to Harison' administrator telling us that month would be up Aug. 2, 2022. instead of the 30day limit of July 1. that one extra day is costing us $193. I was placed in the rehabilitation program at heritage to continue my therapy due to being restricted to: 100% no weight bearing on my broken leg. While at heritage I received good to excellent care from physical therapy department. I even enjoyed the recreational activities of popcorn and a movie, as well as the board games and Bingo. and Yahtzee What as I did not enjoy was getting two baths in 31 days, eating horrible food like unseasoned broccoli much to the hotter than HECK Mexican chicken and spiced beans. In addition to poor bathing and poor food was the unprofessional attitude by the nurses and other staff and service that h I had experienced while at your facility. I personally had to wait 45 min for the bed pan to urinate, only to be yelled at because "I had waited too long" When they arrived and found me in a puddle of my own making> I could simply hold l of my bladder outweighed the pain of my now healing, yet still broken leg. While at your facility your doctor just could not seem to grasp the objected that one pain pill was every 12hr and the other pain pill is every 6-8 hrs. This all caused horrific pain for just no cause, The staff really need to care more about their patients than their music or telephone and stop ignoring the lights. An intercom system would serve so much better for the rehabilitation. patient. Thank you for this outlet. Just target on patient care more and do the job well ,

Please read the reviews of this facility Our experience was terrible. Our 93 year old mother was here for rehab with a broken pelvis. The upper staff (directors) are impossible to reach and fail to return calls or messages. Nurses were cranky and downright rude. We had a 2 day notice with Good Friday and Easter weekend to find out that our mother was going to be discharged when she still could not even walk unassisted. Appeal was filed with Medicare and the night before discharge was to happen they told us it was denied b/c the facility Dr said she was capable of taking care of herself. The Dr if that was true lied. It really is a shame that a facility that is suppose to help does not. Do not place your dear loved one in this facility. The only positive was two aides (Elsa and Stephanie) who did care for mom. The PT Emily and Louis were great as well. It seems as if the rest of the staff just doesn’t care. Awful, just awful putting family through this facility.
