Highland House is very good. The staff was very helpful. I did see the rooms, and it was very clean. It's not gated. I think it is locked inside. One of the clients was coming out because we were going in, and one of the assistants came and got the patient, so they are really on top of it.

I visited this facility
I have visited the facility a few times as a medical rep. The place is dark inside and is very updated. They say they recently renovated, but I cannot notice. They comment that they are losing business and don't know why. Well, to begin the staff is very rude to patients as I have witnessed and I have also seen no compassion in their work. They tell you everything you want to hear to gain the resident, but once in, the compassion stops. It reminds me of the Happy Gilmore movie when he takes his grandmother the the extended living facility!

I am a friend or relative of resident
I visit my father here 4-5 times a week at all different hours. Some of the staff is friendly. He is rarely clean or shaven and his finger nails are long and dirty. His bed was wet for days. The administrator tells you what you want to here at the moment but in the end I am just ignored. Basically all they do is dispense meds and tell him to go eat. There is also a problem with parking because staff members park in the designated visitor parking area because they are to lazy to walk....what does that tell you?!...

I am a friend or relative of a resident
My aunt, who is 92 years old is residing at the Higland House currently. She has been there for 3 years now. She has dementia and has no relatives who live very close to the nursing home. I visit her annually when I am in the area. The first time I visited there, I immediately noticed the lack of that combination of anesthetic and urine that seems very prevalent normally in nursing homes. The nursing home has several gathering areas available for residents to sit with family and friends. There are a lot of windows, making the facility brighter and cheerier than your typical nursing home. There were also several outside areas available for seating as well. All the staff is very friendly, I guess that's the typical southern hospitality. One lady in particular, she was the manager of the facility took the time to speak with me and catch me up on some issues with my aunt. She told me she had on several occasions taken my aunt out for lunch since my aunt rarely gets visitors. She has also been working with a dentist to get my aunt false teeth. The last time I was at the facility my husband and I stayed while my aunt ate her lunch. I was pleasantly surprised how appealing the food looked and while I didn't sample any of the food myself, my aunt seemed to enjoy it.The several times I have been to the home, has always been a pleasant experience.
