I am/was a resident of this facility

My experience at St. Paul has been good. The people are very friendly. Staff treats me very well and the therapy I've received here is good and they are very helpful in helping me recover and get my life back.

I am/was a resident of this facility

One of the most important things I like about St. Paul is the caring of the staff for the residents. The staff puts a lot of energy in going above and beyond the call of duty to make sure the resident is well taken care of in every aspect of being here. When I ask the nurses about my meds or appointments they know the answers to my questions. The rooms are beautiful and very well taken care of. All in all everybody focuses on the resident. The food is pretty good as well. Everyone, including the therapists, are focused on getting the resident great rehab and healthy enough to finally go home

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother is a current resident at St. Paul Health Center in Denver. At the point that it was determined necessary 3 years ago to move her from an Assisted Living facility to a full care nursing facility , my brother and I selected this facility after visiting a few others. The environment is clean, comfortable, and caring !!! We visited other places before deciding on St. Paul, but could NOT be happier that we chose to put her here. I would not hesitate to have anyone consider this place for their loved one, friend, or other needing long term care assistance.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband has been a resident at St. Paul for six years. We know we are very blessed that he’s able to have a private room. His room is very large and has nice views from its three windows. I can’t speak at all to the semi-private rooms. His room is cleaned daily in a cursory manner except on weekends when there is no cleaning staff. Occasionally a deep cleaning is done and this is usually sufficient for his needs. For the most part we’ve found the CNAs on his floor to be caring and attentive to his needs. Some are wonderful. There have been instances where that wasn’t the case, but those people did not last long in most cases. We find the nursing staff to be very good. The administrative staff had some issues at one point, but that has been addressed and we’re very pleased with how it operates now. Rehab is fabulous as is building maintenance. My husband doesn’t care for most of the food, but after six years it’s possible anyone would be tired of it. Although, our family had to go long periods without seeing him, we feel St. Paul did a good job of dealing with Covid 19. We are still on limited visitation due to it, but the concierge goes above and beyond to accommodate all who wish to visit residents. It is an older building, but I disagree that the furnishings are shabby as someone said. Pre Covid, there were lots and lots of activities for residents and a church service on Sunday. I’m sure that will resume soon. I recommend St. Paul to people who ask about it. No place is perfect, but I truly believe most employees do a good job

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad was a resident at St. Paul for 4 years. Do to his blindness and medical conditions, he couldn’t advocate for himself and relies heavily on the help of the staff at St. Paul. My family visit my dad 2-3 times a week to feed him; make sure that he's showered and shaved; and wipe down his room and wheelchair. During the 4 years of his stay, we had a lot of incidents that happened where the nursing home dismissed it and call it a "training issue". On one occasion, my dad was found going down the stairwells (note, my dad is blind and resides on the 4th floor). This wasn't brought to our attention until days later. When questioned why the alarm didn’t go off, no response was ever given. They dismiss this and instead moved my dad to a different room away from the stairs. There was another incident where I found my dad with medicines in his hand and some in his wheelchair. When I questioned the nurse as to why she didn't make sure he takes his meds, her answer was "I don't have the time to stand there and monitor everyone until they take their meds." (Note, they are required to make sure patient take their meds.) The last incident which took my dad's life was a fall that happened during the COVID lockdown. We weren't informed until several days later when I got a call from the hospice service (Friday). I immediately contacted the St. Paul and didn't get a call back until Monday. At that point, my dad was refusing food, water, and meds. I WOULD LIKE TO UNDERSTAND WHAT HAPPENED HERE. I have been in mourning and have yet reach out to them for answers. I've tried to request for my dad's medical records and was told that it will cost me a tremendous amount for the records (this is their way of discouraging you so that they can hid their mistakes and potentially lawsuit against them). ROOM: The furniture is old and can use deep cleaning. The sheets and pillows should be replaced. The room always smells of urine. The furniture in the common area is so disgusting. I sat down on a chair once and was soaked with urine. I saw cockroaches running around the food station. STAFFING: I have come to know some of the staff there well. There were few that were very nice and caring towards my dad. However, there were a lot that didn't care and were mean towards residents there. For example, one of the staffs that served food had these extremely long extensions that weren't covered with hair nets. Every time she moves, her extensions would touch the resident food that was plated. I was so DISGUSTED by it. I've witness and have pictures of staffs that fall asleep while feeding residents, on their phone, and eating the resident's food instead of feeding it to them. FOOD: The food there isn't good by any means and by the time it's served.... it’s cold. The meals that I've prepped and delivered for my dad never gets eaten. They never remember to feed him, and it's gets thrown out. I try to call to remind them, but the problem is no one answers the phone on the floor he resides. The phone can ring up to 30 minutes and I get tired of waiting and hang up. BE AWARE, the management will tell you anything and everything you want to hear so that you can send your loves one there. They will only show you the 1st and 2nd floor which looks decent and has less of an odor. They are not good about returning phone calls. If you are sending your loves one there, you need to stay actively involved. Visit them weekly if you can. Be involved in their quarterly meetings. Ask questions and do not stop until they give you an answer.

Parking was always difficult to find during the week days. Continually short staffed. Nurses did not want to do their job. Placed my mother here for long term care. You are shown lobby and 1st floor, all other floors and rooms lack luster/do not compare. Overall patient care was disappointing. Management was helpful until I placed my mother there. I removed my mother from here after 8 weeks.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I was a resident for a few months. I was sent for rehab. I found all the LPN's and RN's to be kind and compssionate. With the exception of a small handfull of CNA's that were exceptional, the rest of the aids were stoick and impersonal. Acting like they were doing me a favor answering my call light. The food was mediocre at best. Facility clean and beautiful . PT and OT is fantastic. The director David is absolutely unaproachable. The staff is too overworked and always short staffed. If I had to go back as a permanent resident, I would adjust.

My brother is in St Paul Health Center and he seems happy enough. The attention seems to be pretty good and they change the bandages on his feet and legs on a daily basis. Generally, he sounds happy enough with the food. They clean the place every day and change my brother's bedding every day. It's an older facility, but it's maintained OK. I've seen better, but for an older facility, the staff seems to be well-qualified.

I visited this facility

Unfortunately, my father entered the hospital two days before he was to move into St. Paul Health Center and has now passed away, but I wanted to write them an amazing review for their admissions policies and for admissions counselors Brooke and Robin. I needed a VA placement for my father quickly and was being turned down by all of the facilities on the VA's contract list. I was being told that his medications cost more than the VA contract would cover, and that I couldn't pay the difference or bring the meds in myself. When I contacted St. Paul, I told them of my difficulties and the reasons. They said that they were more interested in caring for people than in the cost of meds, and they agreed to take my father. They were wonderful in facilitating his paperwork in only a few days, and were extremely caring during his subsequent hospitalization and death, even though he was never able to enter their facility. Brooke actually came to the hospital to check on us and they called to offer condolences. I was extremely impressed with their compassion, professionalism and caring. There aren't many facilities that put patient care over their bottom line, and St. Paul is one of them!

I am a friend or relative of a resident

There are a lot of very caring people at St. Paul Health Center, and there are some nurses that my dad has really gotten along with over the last month that he has been there. He is hard to please, but most of them are doing a good job, and he is happy with them. He has a private room with a bathroom. For most of the time, it is clean. He has some complaints about laundry not being done as frequently as he would like, and the response time can sometimes be slow depending on who else needs help.
