Carriage Crossing of Decatur was more of a hotel setting and not a care setting. I didn't think it was a friendly setting. The staff who accommodated me were trying to sell the place, so they're salesman. Everything was OK, but the whole atmosphere was more of a hotel, "Come in, sit down, get up, we'll feed you," it just wasn't a care facility, it was more of a hotel. We didn't get into their amenities that much. They were trying to sell the place and we just weren't as happy with it. And they didn't have financial aid. It looked like a newly remodeled area, and it was all nice, but it wasn't what we were interested in. We would have been happier with that location over the other place.

Carriage Crossing of Decatur was beautiful. I would love to have put my mother there, but they were private pay only. When I got there, I entered the main foyer and everything was neat and clean. There were some residents down in the dining hall and they all looked happy and well cared for. I loved the tour. What they had were little individual apartments. They have a housekeeping staff on the premises and I was able to look into the memory care unit. I was able to see the gardens and the walking trails that they have for the residents to enjoy. It was just very good all the way around. The lady that gave the tour was transparent and very patient.

I moved my mom into Carriage Crossing of Decatur. She's doing very well. She's happy where she's at. She likes all the people like the nurses and the staff. It is very clean and very organized. They're very helpful. I'm impressed with the staff. The staff is fantastic. I told my husband after moving my mom to a couple of different places first, that the third time's the charm, and it has worked out wonderful. My mom's room is almost like a studio apartment. She has a queen-sized bed, and it fits in there just fine. She's got a desk and an armoire in there for her clothes. Her bathroom is enormous. It's wheelchair accessible. She has an easy time getting around there. Overall, it's very clean. The maintenance men and the housekeepers, are right on top of things. She's already got all of her Christmas stuff hung up, which we bought her as a Christmas present. They've already done it. Overall, her room is great. It's cozy. It's comfortable. It's homey. I like her room, and she does, too. The food there is fantastic. Their dining area is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. It's made to order. My mom can order whatever she wants, and they'll make it. They have a chef on staff. They have an open salad bar. It's like eating at a restaurant. On Mondays, the activity girl paints all the ladies' nails. They do different things. My mom hasn't been involved in as many activities because right now she is pretty much wheelchair-bound, but they will wheel her anywhere she wants to go. Physical therapy is wonderful. They are re-teaching her how to transfer from her bed to her wheelchair and from the potty to the wheelchair. The last time I talked to the therapist, he was getting her up and having her walk a few steps just to see if he can get enough strength back in her legs so that she can walk with the walker. It's well worth the money that I spend on it, and I'm getting most of everything that I'm paying for. Like there's a salon in there, and my mom can get her hair done, and there's is a nail tech in there if she wants somebody else to do her nails. They've got walk-in bathtubs if she wants to do a spa. They have a lot of amenities for the price that they charge.

Carriage Crossing of Decatur was very nice, but I didn't want that location. It's right by a hospital. For somebody who never gets out, it would be OK, but I get out and run around, and I didn't feel comfortable there. The studio apartment was very, very small. I would have felt like I was going back to college. It was like a dorm room. You could only have a chair and a bed. That's a nursing home to me, not assisted living. The staff was a 5. I told her if I were choosing a home just based on likability, I would choose them, but that's not what I'm going there for totally. I didn't try the food. They are not very full since the pandemic. It was sort of like a little ghost town. There were not very many people there, but they do a lot of nice activities. They're next to a daycare, and they bring the kids over for crafts once a month. They're next to a YMCA. The older people can go swimming there, so it's nice to be neighborly. I just told the staff location-wise, it wasn't where I wanted to be. It's a beautiful facility, but it's too inner city for me. The room was way too small and in the kitchenette part of the studio, there's no sink. You would have to wash your dishes in the bathroom sink. I thought to myself that is not gonna be happening. If you were more debilitated and you ate every meal with them, it wouldn't matter, but for my needs, it mattered, so I had to rule it out.

My dad will be moving into Carriage Crossing of Decatur. It is really clean and looks fairly new. They have more staff than they have residents. The staff did an excellent job. I had to move a bed, a couple of chairs, and a TV there. They have a refrigerator and a microwave.

We saw Carriage Crossing of Decatur and it was just nice all over. The bathroom and the closet area were nice, the room was fine in size, and it had a refrigerator and a microwave in it. My mom could eat whatever time she wanted to. They also had a beauty shop and an activity room. I've talked to the staff several times and they're very nice about everything.

Carriage Crossing of Decatur seemed to be very caring. The people were very responsive to the needs of the residents. They make you feel comfortable and welcome, and they're open to questions. They were able to answer all our questions during our visit. I think they could supply all our needs, and they're just very generous. We looked at their memory care and we also saw assisted living. You could come in, order food, and eat with your patient or resident there. The facility is newly remodeled, so everything is beautiful, comfortable, and pleasing. The parking is minimal though. I think that would be the only thing that I would have an issue with. They have a gym, a barbershop, a television room or movie room, and an exercise room.
