My mother was a resident in that facility for about 2 years. I just want to say the second floor always has a bad odor, the staff was slow and very lazy, when the patient rings the bell for assistance the staff takes forever to respond. The food is not fit for the elderly. Someone lowered my mother's oxygen level on the machine making it difficult for her to breathe which lead her to the emergency room. I don't think it was done deliberately I think it was shear incompetence. She out of there now and thank God for it. I think the entire staff including the kitchen staff should go through extensive training for further knowledge in how to care and cook for the residents. I would never refer this place to anyone.

My mom has been a resident of Salem Hills fir a year and a half. Everything, everyone regarding this facility has been excellent! She is taken care of in every possible way! Of course it was hard in the beginning for all of us, but as we saw Mom adjusting so did we. I can’t say enough about the nursing care, the aides, the therapy staff and Jen the social worker. A burden has been lifted off our chests knowing Mom is so well taken care of , eats what she says are delicious meals, and feels so loved by all that interact with her! Salem Hills is the best!!

I only had one day to find a rehabilitation center for my mother that was close to my home for the ease of visiting. For all family members that understand the significance of entrusting “their home away from home” for their loved ones, either short/long term, can be quite the daunting task. My mother was in two other entities the past 2 years, and although undoubtedly both had compassionate and hard working staff, I noticed immediately that Waterview Hills must have a very good director. Not only did Rachel in Admissions squeeze me in for a tour the next morning, but I noticed right away that she and the rest of the staff in “every” department smiled at me under their masks as we walked by. Having mom in other facilities I can testify of the difficult mental, emotional & physical demands on staff as well as patients/residents especially through Covid- so you can imagine my pleasant surprise and elation when I noticed that staff were more happy… which meant that patients/residents are happier. From Marta & Angie in Armonk, to Olivia and James in Social Work, to Ashley at front lobby, to Denise in Administration - there is a CONSISTENCY of genuine and loving care - and not feeling like your loved one is viewed as profit. They also do not get defensive when I call to ask a question or are in need of feedback. This means EVERYTHING to family members when you completely rely on staff for feedback on your loved ones. My mom has only been at Waterview for 1 week now, and she’s already told me that they try to be as helpful to her medical & environmental needs as much as possible. I quote a social worker today who said “ there’s always something we can do to try to help - or meet mom in the middle”. This means everything to me. It makes me rest in know she’s not just in a “facility” - but in a caring home. Tara

I have been the caregiver for my 95 year old Aunt Catherine, for the past 5 ½ years. I did my best to accommodate all her needs and keep her living as independently as possible in her apartment in Brooklyn. Unfortunately, she had a bad fall this past March. At that point, she was no longer able to go back and live in that same apartment where she had lived for the past 25 or so years. I was so nervous to uproot her and take her away from everything she knew. Needless to say, I was overwhelmed with the task of finding a nursing facility that would please my heart and head for dear Auntie. I searched and searched and searched and searched. Viola, I finally found Salem Hills! Well, I’m not just happy with Salem Hills, I feel so blessed Aunt Catherine is able to be part of the amazing SH family. Here are the most caring, qualified, efficient, helpful, upbeat staff Aunt Catherine has ever had the pleasure of knowing –people she now calls her friends…. people I can always rely. The atmosphere is welcoming – and the place is clean; one would say, immaculate. I want to give a special shout out to: Jenn, the incredible social worker who knows each and every one of the residents needs, Paula and Jessica who tirelessly and cheerfully get every resident involved in fun events downstairs, Lauren our very special night nurse who extends her expertise and friendship to all on the second floor, and Diane in Finance, who has made the process of undertaking the vast amount of confusing paperwork so smoothly. Thankx, too, to the custodial staff who keeps the place sparkling. Ps. And I’m thrilled to report…there is no “old people” smell –EVER -- AT ALL! Salem Hills, you have joined us as our treasured family! Thank you, thank you, thank you to all.

Do NOT send anyone you love here. It is a cesspool of bacteria - they never refresh the air or open a window ever. The rooms are so small you are breathing all over your roommate. Right now there are several serious potentially deadly viruses running rampant thru this facility - including Gastro-intestinal virus, upper respiratory virus and a FLU strain that the vaccine this year doesn't work on. Several residents have already died or been rushed to the hospital. Management is nowhere to be found. They are understaffed and forget to wash their hands as they go room to room. The website lies about what they offer - 3/4 doesn't exist anymore. The unhealthy food is smothered in nasty gravy or fried or shriveled and dried out. No such thing as a heart healthy menu choice. Watch out for the sugar free laxative cookies - "snack time". As for the advertised "elegant" decor? Think tacky wedding banquet hall circa 1983 downstairs and Motel 6 upstairs.

My mother had multiple falls while a resident of this facility. The last fall lead to her death. Additionally, they called on the day of my mother's funeral to discuss payment. Very distressing. They are more concerned about money than people.
