I visited this facility

I liked Sunny View Retirement Community. It has been there since 1964. It has a vibrant culture, it looked nice, and had a homey feel to it. They have an active building program, so they always seem to be adding and improving their facilities. I also liked that it's a nonprofit and that it offers a continuum of care. There's a lot of green space between the buildings. So, there's a lot of open space, and I think it's the largest campus of all the ones I saw. It's already full, so we looked at some units that were already occupied. They were set up well, and I liked them. They offered a wide range of activities, too.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I love Sunny View. The people are amazingly kind and helpful. I've been so surprised at how wonderful the people have been, which you don't always find in retirement communities. Everything is included, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They give you two entrees on the menu and choices for dessert, soup, and salad. The food is good. They have all of the things that you want, like buses to take you shopping, people coming in to do shows for you, a section with a library and games, and a theater for movies. They have a shopping room where people can donate things to it, and once a week it's open for the residents to come and buy at low prices. They have a doctor who comes in on a regular basis. You can come in as individual living then you can go towards assisted living, all the way to a section for Alzheimer's patients. They have beautiful grounds and little fountains that are well kept. My mother chose to live in the villas and I love them. It's like a two-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen. She walks out her back sliding patio and has this enclosed gorgeous garden area. She can set out a table, chairs, and an umbrella, and she has places to put potted plants. It has a beautiful iron gate that you can walk out of in order to go to the dining facility. The staff is amazing, and they have all kinds of activities.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

We placed my father-in-law at Sunny View and he's happy there. It seemed really good, we didn't smell any urine, and it seemed very clean. The residents are very nice to each other, and the employees are very nice to the residents. The food is good. It's not spectacular, but they present it very nicely. They have exercise classes every day for different levels, social activities almost every day, and it's up to the residents to decide if they want to paricipate. My father-in-law has fallen a couple of times and within minutes they are right there helping him.

I visited this facility

When we went there at Sunny View Retirement, they didn't have anybody to really show us around. We kind of walked around, and it seems like a much older facility. I think it needs renovation because it looked more clinical to me. It didn't seem as inviting as the other ones we have visited. I kind of looked in the dining room. It wasn't cafeteria style, but it was OK. We didn't really get to really see what the memory care unit looked like, but we could just tell that it wasn't what we were looking for. The first impression wasn't great.

I visited this facility

We went to the rooms at Sunnyview, and they were very spacious. The dining area was good. The staff were very courteous and everything you would expect them to be in a pretty difficult situation.

I visited this facility

The staff at Sunny View Retirement Community was helpful, and they provided the information we needed. There were some rooms that were a little darker than others. The dining area was nice. I thought it was kind of easy to get lost, and it would have been difficult for my mom to get from her room to the dining room unless the room was really close to the dining room. The halls kind of wandered around, and that was my main problem with that facility.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mother lived at Sunnyview for about 5 years. The staff were friendly, knew her by name and the other residents were also very friendly. Mom moved from assisted living to skilled nursing after a fall, and the staff was very helpful during that time. The care team met with her and family members and tried to find activities that would be engaging for her. The facilities are comfortable, a number of garden areas, and a wide range of activities. The physical therapists were also attentive and helped mom recover from her fall.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I live at Sunny View with my wife. She has Parkinson's and Dementia, and she now lives in the Special Care unit. The staff is very caring and professional. Since we live close to one another, I'm able to spend a lot of time with her. On the other hand; I'm free to do other activities, and I don't have to worry about her care. The staff and other residents are very friendly, and I'm very happy here.

I am/was a resident of this facility

My wife and I moved here 14 months ago. Since she has Parkinson's Disease and Lewy Body Dementia, I knew she would eventually need more care. Although her move to the Special Care unit occured earlier than I anticipated, it was handled in a very smooth and caring way. The staff is very professional and respectful of her unique situation. I still live in the independent living area of the facility, yet it is quite convenient to visit my wife and share meals with her. I'm very thankful for the care that Sunny View has provided to both me and my wife, and I can highly recommend it to anyone looking for continuing care.

I visited this facility

This is in a good neighborhood, on the corner of Foothill and Cupertino Road. It's near shopping, and it's very peaceful. It's on 12 acres and it's very park-like. There's access to public transportation nearby. There are walking paths and patios outside. This place has assisted living and a separate dementia unit. They also have skilled nursing. The common areas inside are nice. It's not perfect, but it's pleasant. It's not gaudy or anything. It's well kept up, and the common areas are large. I saw the rooms in the assisted living and dementia care units. These are typical rooms, nothing special. Residents can bring in their own personal belongings. . Everyone there seems really professional. They have RNs and LVNs on staff. I didn't eat there, but I saw food being served. The food I saw looked decent.
