ITS NOT SAFE HERE. There isn’t enough space to write all the things wrong with this place. We just pulled my mom out of here! She was sent here from AAMC after a hip surgery from a fall. She is 82 and in relatively good shape but she does have diabetes. She arrived on a Wed at 120pm and no one came to see her. Had to track a nurse down at 3pm who said someone will be shortly. Someone came at 5 pm Medications from hospital were wrong and If I didn’t ask for list to check we wouldn’t of known. I let nurses know as she would of put my mom in a diabetic coma without any help as there is zero emergency care here. She still brought wrong amount of insulin but we caught since we were there. If you press button there is no intercom and it takes 20-40 mins for a nurse to come and see what you need. Read that again. NO EMERGENCY CARE. So had we not stopped the nurse that day my mom would of crashed and likely died. If you aren’t willing to stay with your loved one from 830 am to 830 pm then don’t even consider it. I gave my mom explicit directions to call 911 if she had an emergency yet this could be a problem as they have no one manning the doors after 8pm (6pm weekends) so medics have to wait to gain entry! There is zero communication and “plan of care” meetings are onTues ONLY so she waited 6 days for a care plan!!! What?? That’s crazy!! 6 days and only 3 physical therapy sessions and 1 occupational session and one was the assessment only. No therapy. She should have had 12 sessions in this time frame. We continually asked questions and were told different answers as to when she would have therapy, get a shower etc. we ended up taking care of her ourselves for the most part or she would not have been taken care of. The place is old. The wall paper peeling off the wall, bed old and broken. The call button was broken. Rude staff though a few awesome ones too. They actually handed out cowbells for patients to use after we complained about call button. Cowbells? The nurse can’t tell where that’s coming from. The nurse to patient ratio is not good. Not sure what it was but it seemed close to 10 patients per nurse as there was only one nurse and one tech ever on duty. It took us 4 days to even find out call button was broken and that was from an attentive tech who was awesome. We tried to pull her out earlier but no one around on weekends even after a phone call to the “Omnbudsman”. This was our first experience with nursing homes. Im patient and knowledgeable about level of care and I don’t think my mom would of survived if we weren’t there to advocate for her 12 hours a day.

My mom is staying at Fairfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She's in an individual room, which is what she wanted, it's large, and has a nice window with a nice view. The staffing is good, but we had a little issue earlier about her follow up rehabilitation. When she first went in there, she didn't get any further rehabilitation after she was transferred to the private room that we got for her, which I thought, "Something's wrong." She digressed, and she wound up having to go back into the hospital. When she came back into Fairfield, they went through 14 days of rehabilitation and quarantine, and I told the front desk, her social worker, and the administration, that I felt that they should have continued on with her rehabilitation, because we don't want her to regress again. She's 99 years old, but her mind is sharp, it's just her body is starting to give out. She got a bad hip and a bad knee, and I wanted more follow up from the tests and everything that was done to her when she was in the hospital, and they have done that. This is the first week that she had rehab, and being back in her room, and she's now getting further rehab on her legs and her hip. She's very pleased with it, but she has always been pleased with the level of service that she has been getting there. The activities are limited because of COVID, but she's actually going down to the gym, and working out for an hour. There are some residents down there at the same time, and she likes that she's getting exposed to other people. They have a big rec room, small meeting rooms, a library, and a large dining area, but none of that is used right now because of COVID. The food is excellent. My mother is a true entrepreneur as far as food goes, and she's always been a fantastic cook. She doesn't mind telling you that you're doing it wrong, and she's very pleased with the quality and the quantity of food they have. I have never been there actually, and I am just going by what she tells me, and according to her, her living atmosphere is fine. She got a big nice room with a nice table, and it's facing east, so she gets the morning sun, and she loves that. It's adequate, and she can sit there and read her paper or books. It's expensive to be there, but they're taking care of her.

Horrible experience! DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE! Only 5 days there & my step-dad fell twice, they didn't have correct supplies for his urostomy, resulting in soiled bedding & clothing. They wouldn't change him from hospital gown to his own clothing for their convenience until we called & complained. They tried charging us out of pocket for a PT session & an ambulance transport that they're supposed to fit the bill for. My step-dad has dementia which they were well aware of & required a little extra attention which he definitely did not receive.

My friend was a resident of this nursing home and moved her to assisted living. I had to say that they are understaffed because they really don’t have the time to spend with the patients. They just don’t seem to have the time for it, so you don’t have someone visiting you to do that. I’m not a fan of nursing homes. The room was clean, and it didn’t smell when you come in; that wasn’t the problem. The problem is they were just understaffed, and a lot of times they think that they are crying just to be wanting some attention but that’s not always the case. They put them in the wheelchair, and when you are sitting there for two and three hours and not moving it’s just like when you are home. They need to be moved or somebody reposition you so that can get that blood circulate again; that was the experience I kept seeing there. For the ones that could, they did have activity room where they could roll themselves around, talk to each other, play cards, and watch TV.

I visited Fairfield when I was looking for a place for my mom. Fairfield once started off as terrible, but they changed management, and they really topped it up. Not only did they do a great cosmetic turnover, but everything that I saw was great; the food and the people who worked there, and it was clean and didn't smell of urine. It was nice. I talked to some of the residents to see how they liked it, and they were pretty good about it. It was a complete transformation from what it used to be.
