We've placed my mom at Cortland Care Center. The facility is clean and well-staffed. I think the place is kept up well. It's a fine facility, and I don't have any issues with it. I know they have an activities group, but my mom is not involved in that much. They have a patio where they can go out if they want to and someone will go with them. The dining area is large, and then they have another kitchen area where the residents can sit as well. The food seems to be fine, and I don't see any issues with that either. I've never had a problem with their staff. They do the laundry for my mom but sometimes it can get behind. They have new staff members and they tend to communicate better because they'd call me for updates even if it's after hours.

Our mother was inpatient at Cortland Park Rehabilitation for a few weeks after surgery recently. On the positive side the Physical Therapist and Occupational Therapist are very good. The nutritionist was engaged and ensured that my mother was on the appropriate diet. My Mother did mention that she really liked the aides. We were told before admission that my mother would be receiving PT/ OT 6 days / week. That is not the case there is a skeleton crew on Saturday and Sunday's. Please keep your expectations low when it comes to the Social Worker and Nurses. One hand does not know what the other hand is doing. It was obvious they were not used to having patients that had there faculties. My mother was transported to Syracuse by Van and the driver called in sick. They recruited there Custodian to drive and he never locked the wheel chair in the van. He began driving and hit a bump and my mother went flying. They attempted to cover this up. Another evening, my mother called stating that there was a strange man in her bathroom. I call the nurses station and they laughed it off stating it was such and such patient and he does that to all the rooms. Really??? On another evening my mother calls me and tells me that there is a different man laying in the other bed in the room under the covers. Again, I called the nurses station to find out what was happening. I was told that there was another patient with dementia that was put in the room. Really?? My mother was in the Rehabilitation Unit? Why is a dementia patient being assigned to a semi private Rehab room and it was her husband laying in the bed. They apologized. If you are not up for a full time job advocating for your parent and want to ensure that they have the best of care then please choose another facility. If you have already selected Cortland Park Rehab, think again unless its outpatient. This is not a place for a loved one. If I could give this facility less than 1 star I would

My mother was a resident there for over a year. I was dissatisfied at first - my mother lived with me in my home for six years, and I was particular about her care. It did take a while for her call bell to be answered, and various things were lost in the laundry. On the other hand, she enjoyed all the activities. A doctor visited her frequently and answered all her questions. The menu choices had variety and the food was good. They gave every resident a little something as a Christmas present. She liked the resident cats and the visiting dogs. She complained that some of the staff were uncaring. But others of the staff were wonderful, and she grew to love them. The last month of her life she had a stroke. She returned there after a hospital stay, and told us it was her home. The care she received from the staff after the stroke was exceptional. If they didn't answer the call button in the early days of her time there, it was because they take care of the sicker patients first, and they took very good care of her after her stroke. I can't say enough about her care and the relationship she had with some of the staff in her last month. One of the aides even visited her when she was hospitalized in Syracuse after the stroke. I do wish the gardens were better cared for. I'm told the grounds used to be beautiful, and now they are neglected.

I would think very carefully before sending a loved on to this facility. There rehab group is excellent, but it is the other 21 hours a day that you should be concerned about. Some CNAs are very good and friendly, others it just a job . Some of the nursing staff have a lot to be desired. A lot of badgering of the patients and a lot of discontent between the staff. They do believe in comfort care, NORCO. So if you don't mind your loved one being drugged to the point they sleep all the time, can't eat by them self, this might be ok. But not when they are there for short term rehab. My experience was a person that got congested heart failure and pneumonia because it took too long to get her out of there and into another facility. She died at the other facility a short time latter. IT WAS TOO LATE.

My husband has been at Cortland for five years. I chose this facility just because it has a lockdown for patients with brain injuries. It's okay and I'm not thrilled with it. I don't think they get enough to eat and I don't think that they get enough activity.

My mom was at the Cortland Park Rehab during the Christmas holiday. She was there for PT and OT after a dehydration & copd issues. The room she had was cramped, dark and not a nice area. She was supposed to have part of a dresser. Did not happen. I advised ALL staff I would do laundry. They have lost a few items and have not been returned. Not understanding how that can happen. No return calls only for payment of out of pocket bill. Social worker is very nice but not agreeable on getting to the bottom of issues. Once bill was paid you never heard from them. I might add they needed moms bed so seeing how she has Alzheimer's they moved her to that unit. OMG what a disaster. She was done with therapy but the doctor deemed mom as not being able to leave the facility due to ambulatory and dementia issues. I checked with PT and he said she was as good as she is going to be. They did not have the time to keep "telling" he to do her exercises. He also said she can walk with the walker just fine. When they moved her to the Alzheimer unit they stuck her in a wheel chair because it was easier and quicker to get her to the dining area. This place was understaffed and under caring. I found 1 person that gave a damn. I had to fight to get her out of there. Her evaluation was way too soon only 1 and half weeks after therapy. Mom is a 1month rehab person. We have done this many times in the past 18 months. I would not recommend this place to anyone that cares about their loved one. When it is time for a nursing home it definitely will not be this one!
