Reviews of South Hampton Place

I am/was a resident of this facility
Terrible place to be! Grossly understaffed which means long call light responses. 45 minutes one night. Totally underpaid aids. They usually only have one aide on the floor for one whole hall . Some of the aides are very caring and good, while others seem to have an attitude and act like you are putting them out if you ask for something specific with your personal care or maybe getting something to eat. They said that they would take me since I was in the hospital and needed a Skilled Nursing Facility to go to but they we're not prepared one bit for any of my special needs although all of those needs were discussed by the hospital and staff at Southampton Place.. The bed I was in did not have adequate rails on it and was actually a state violation the whole time I was there because it was not really safe for me to be without rails do to my paralysis. I had to have heated arguments with both aids AND nurses about my personal care because they did not meet with me to make a care plan until I was there almost a whole month! So the rules about my care changed from day-to-day.. Another state violation. Staff complained. because I wanted a bed bath every day unless I was getting a shower. They only wanted to give me a shower twice a week and a bed bath every other day.. Evidently these were rules that were made by the facility but are certainly not State guidelines by any means. To make a long story short I would strongly advise not taking your loved one here for any reason.

The place is very understaffed, resulting in basic hygiene needs going unmet, showers not being given, and long call light response times. Not somewhere I would put someone I love.

South Hampton Place was the only place that would take my dad; however, I would not recommend this place to others. It is understaffed. We even have to hire a room sitter to stay with him to get care. It would take a long time for the aides to come into his room. There are also no private rooms in this facility. However, the facility is adequate in terms of cleanliness. What they could improve on is having more staff and that they would need to be more readily available and more interested in the patients. Also they need to make their doors wheelchair accessible. They need automatic door openers so that you can open doors to help someone in a wheelchair.

Southhampton Place is not one of the best facilities. It is in desperate need of improvement. Some of the workers are great and love what they do, but are completely underpaid. The place itself needs a makeover, as it looks very old. They are always understaffed, due to the general "don't care," attitude. There are a few staff members who put their all into the place, while others don't need to be in healthcare at all. The facility could be a great place, if there were improvements and upgrades made soon.

I visited this facility
We have seen many examples of how caring and responsive the staff is. Maintenance cheerfully studied the manual for our treadmill and installed it for us. After our casual comment about a light out over our desk, a new bulb appeared magically. Maintenance even provided a drill bit for one of my home repair project. We also have access to the great nursing staff at South Hampton. They have helped us evaluate some medical issues, avoiding unnecessary trips to the hospital. We knew we had made the right move when the first snow fell, and the sound of scraping outside was not made by my shovel!
