I am/was a resident of this facility

We are in rehab at Orchid Cove at Clearwater. The staff here is very nice and attentive. The place is very clean. The coffee is always hot. You can eat all you want. They take good care of us here. They give us some exercise, walk us, and take the time to talk to us. They have a menu every day of activities that they do and a menu of food. But a lot of the staff here doesn't work here all the time. They don't communicate and tell them where everything is, which makes an uncomfortable experience for the person. I think they should communicate better and help each other.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I wouldn't send anyone there. Personally, I would rather die at home than ever be sent there. No, my husband wasn't in the best condition. He couldn't hold the zoom camera because of his condition, so a very nice lady from activities came in every day at 11 (soon it became all days but Sunday) Me and my husband chatted for about 20 or 30 mins. He was doing great on Sat. Last thing I saw was his smile that day. Monday at 11:00 we connected, He wasn't awake so I said to her to wake him. He was delirious. IT WAS 11:00!!!, and nobody noticed he was delirious!! It wasn't until 2 in the morn they called me and said he was being taken to the hospital. He ended up dying. If not for the lack of observation he could have made it I think. I mean 15 hrs later he was then taken to the hospital and at 11 in the morning nobody had noticed a thing. Really? There are maybe a few good CNA's there but far and in between. Most of the good ones I met left from there. Some of them like to hang out in the hallway to the gazebo to play on their phones instead of caring for patients or the ones yelling out help me. I was there every day practically unless I was sick, for three years and a half. So I knew who was a good worker and who wasn't. He kept shaking his head no no no no and trying to tell me something on Monday. The last time I saw him was the one time they gave me at the hospital with a ventilator on. (He had pneumonia) and then he couldn't speak. So make this your last resort for a long time stay for a loved one or yourself. He had a sore on his butt that had been there for months, The ER nurse at the hospital said it stunk. I have pictures of his feet that were awful. He had sepsis as well.

Do not send anyone you care about here. If they need medical care or are fragile. They are rough. My boyfriend was tossed in bed and he had wounds and fragile skin. They ignore you. The overnight shift is the worst. There are some wonderful people working there but they are few and far between.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband had been in a private health care facility prior to coming to Sunset Point Rehab. He came in, in bad shape with infections and more. Within the first week of being here, my husband's infections were gone and he was able to do his physical and occupational therapy. He was able to move forward. Whenever I had any questions, (and I had a lot), one of the staff, nurses, techs, social services, and even the administrators would give me answers or find out for me. I am very pleased with the staff and how this rehab. facility is operated. I knew it was different and better from my first phone call to Robin from admissions to the day our tech Debbie did a wonderful job of packing up my husband's items. No problems here, better than many private nursing homes as they must adhere to more government regulations. My husband is a 100% dav. Thank you!

I had Mom who has dementia there 2 days. We live close so I could just run over. The 1st full day I went over and they said she would be having activities but that is only if you can get yourself there. It was 2:00 and she was just sitting out in the hall with the others. She didn't have her hearing aides in. Second day I went to take her to the church service at 10:30. She was still in bed they said they couldn't get her awake for breakfast. She had poop in her depends and under her fingernails. She had pj's in the drawer but she had on a hospital gown tied in front gapping open. The other women in her room had PJ's on. I took her out.

My mother was at Sunset Point for one month. I was afraid to leave her alone each time I left her for the night. I would return first thing in the morning, and stay all day to insure her well being. Staff would argue over the patients they would care for, or leave for the day, or be unavailable (gone at break, lunch, or hiding in a corner on their cell phones). I often found the call button placed out of reach in an effort to eliminate being bothered by my mom. It was usual for me to have to ask for standard things, someone to take her to the toilet, a shower, or clean/dry linen when needed. I was so stressed out at the treatment she received. Because I was there all the time, staff began to expect me to perform their duties, like taking her to the toilet, getting her into and out of bed, preparing her food at meal time, even changing her bed. One aide had no compassion whatsoever and would argue with the patients, families and co-workers. I feel very bad for families who have to choice but to leave their loved one in this horrible place.

Sunset Point Rehab and Nursing is close to home and very good. The staff is friendly, attentive, and very good. Overall, it's clean, but they could use a little bit more help. My husband loves the food. Some of the patients wear diapers and a lot of them don't even realize that they're soiled, so sometimes when you walk down the hall, you smell an odor.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Sunset Point had doctors that came in, and the CNAs did the best job they could, but, like any other nursing facility, they were always going to be short-staffed. The residents weren’t allowed to stay in their beds, and that’s what impressed me, unless they had to. No residents had bedsores or anything, and that was good because I have been in a lot of places where the poor residents weren’t treated properly and they got bedsores from lying on bed. They had activities where the residents could exercise, so that was great too. It was very clean. They cleaned it every day, and the cleaning people were excellent.

Terrible. Absolutely terrible. I've been in healthcare for almost 25 years, and the nurses here are among the worst I've ever seen. The CNA's are better, and do about 90% of the work but with the exception of a few are terrible also. My father-in-law has been here for 2 months for post-stroke rehab and is unable to speak. So far, he's had 2 UTI's, and is now in the ICU for septic shock. Every time we expressed concern to the staff we were met with eye rolling and attitudes, as if we were being overly sensitive or bothersome. However, each time they refused to listen we called 911 ourselves and had him transported to the hospital. Each time we were correct that he had an issue. They do not like family involvement. If you are concerned about your family members health, this is not the place for you. There is no communication regarding care, changes in care, or follow-up treatments if an issue arises. The Director of Nursing actually said because our family is from New York that our inquisitions come off as abrasive. That is how they justify attitudes from the staff. Asking a question about your loved one's care apparently is inconvenient and unwanted. The "medical director" for this place is a joke. 2 months and we've still never met him or seen him. If my father-in-law survives this, we will be looking for a new facility.

Sunset Point has a very structured, multi-discipline rehabilitation program. They do not only have speech and physical therapy, but also occupational, and more day-to-day activities and assistance that you can do on your own. The rooms were small but clean, two-person, and not private. The services are more than adequate, and the staffing seemed to be good.

Do not let your loved ones be admitted here. My father was admitted to treat pneumonia and receive some rehabilitation for his weak legs. He was there for less than 2 months. Instead of recovering and coming home he ended up in ICU with sepsis from a very poorly treated bed sore (the likes of which the ICU nurse was appalled at). He died 3 days after being admitted to the hospital. At least the hospital fulfilled their medical oath and gave him medical care, comfort and respect his last few days. Sunset point and his doctor let him suffer terribly and refused to even return my mother's phone calls inquiring about his medical treatment. She was in the process of having him moved when he went into septic shock. By then it was too late. I gave it the one star rating because no stars was not an option. I am heartbroken.

I went to Sunset point and didn’t like it at all. The overall look and surroundings are very dark, and the paintings are old. The room was a little bit dirty and very unpleasant with cobwebs. The staff was nice and pleasant. I like the dining room setup.

My grandmother stayed at this facility after a bad spill at home broke her hip. The staff at this facility are very nice and attentive, they are helpful in answering all of your questions and making you feel comfortable with the care your loved one is receiving. During my grandmother's month long stay at Sunset Point Care and Rehabilitation we were allowed to visit her daily and the times we were able to do so were made to be very flexible. It is located right next to a McDonald's and they even allowed us to bring her milkshakes because the medications that she was taking were making her feel nauseous. On only did one occasion did anything troublesome occur. She had been given sleep medication and apparently one evening she tried to get out of bed, she was lightheaded and fell out of bed when trying to go to the bathroom at night. A caretaker was there within moments and she was given bed rails and had her dosage immediately lowered. All in all I think this is a great facility with plenty of activities and friendly staff. They are competent and careful. If I were to rate this facility a 1 through 10, I'd give it a 9, only because the location can be tricky to get into if there is traffic.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother stayed at this location recently, she had broken her hip and during her recovery she needed assistance that I could not provide twenty four hours a day because of my job. In home care was also not something that could be used as our house was not wheelchair accessible. Her stay was mostly pleasant, there were a few incidents that did scare her slightly. She told me that an Alzheimer's patient was wandering around and came into her room while she was changing blouses. Overall, her stay was very pleasant. She was a bit antisocial, and did not want to be in the facility for any longer than was medically necessary, due to her being a very independent woman. If the need were to arise again, she stated that she would be willing to go back if in home care were not possible. The staff was always friendly and patient with my mother, and my interactions with them were superb as well.
