I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

We've been residents of Pilgrim Place for several years and we chose them because at that time, they're only accepting missionaries, ministers and heads of non-profit agencies. Since then, the admission procedures have changed and it's now open to anyone above 60 years of age. They have a board that's very interested of our being and takes good care of us. The staff is responsive and very supportive of us for the most part. We have about 250 residents in all levels of care, the residents are progressive thinkers and are caring and active. The amenities include a swimming pool, a fitness center, and healthcare center and clinic where I can call a nurse any time day or night. We also have a pendant so that if I need help I can push that button and somebody will come. The dining service is outstanding, and the community is very open to the fact that residents come up with great ideas for being concerned about world affairs, promoting diversity within our community. We also have Eucharistic circles on a weekly basis, people come in to help us with yoga and Tai chi. we're not a chandelier place and we don't have golf courses and such. We're democratic in a sense that when we go to the dining hall, a computer scrambles us up so every day and we get to know each other that way. So we don’t have cliques forming around the dinner table so that's really wonderful. The food and service are exceptional, we've had really nice things like lamb shanks and Cornish game hens.

I visited this facility

I liked Pilgrim Place because it is not one big building and rather a community of little houses. One building had apartments, but mostly it was a lot of little houses, so you have a sense of being in a neighborhood rather than in a big building. Lunch is the one meal that you eat together as a community. Who you sit with is determined by the computer, so you don't just sit with your friends, so within a year, you would have sat with everybody, and I thought that was pretty cool. It is a retirement community for clergy, missionaries, people who worked in non-profits, and social justice workers, so it is a very interesting group of people. I was impressed by it. I'm not ready to move, but it was interesting to see and to get a sense of what it is and begin to think about. There was an exercise room. They get involved with Claremont College, which is not too far from them. It is right near the downtown of Claremont. There is a seminary in Claremont, so it's a place that would be intellectually stimulating.

I visited this facility

The place was fine. The staff were respectful of myself and my family when we came to visit. They made sure that my grandmother had everything she needed to live her life without unnecessarily intruding on here day to day life. We ate the food there and it was pretty good. The pool was nice and the residents seemed happy. There seemed to be many activities for the residents to do. My grandfather, when he was still alive worked at a used bookstore that was part of the community, he really enjoyed that. When my grandmothers health went down hill and she was transferred to the high intensity care part of the community the staff seemed proficient. Everything through community was clean and organized. Community had many palm trees and walking paths, it was a very nice environment. Was it the poshest? No, but it did its job and was honestly the best that could be afforded by my family.

I visited this facility

I only didn't give Pilgrim's Place a five because I have not been to that many assisted-living facilities and I don't know if it is truly the best of the best. What I can say from what I've heard about assisted-living places, is that it must come pretty close. I am a student in Claremont and I visited Pilgrim's Place in order to talk to some residents about their lives. I have hard many horror stories about assisted living facilities, but this one was nothing like that. It was clean and cheerful. The residents seemed happy and well taken care of. Like most of Claremont, the building itself was very nice and welcoming. The staff was very helpful and friendly as well. Although I have not had relatives stay here, I would recommend it without a doubt and can only hope that I end up in a place like this in my old age, if needed be. I couldn't find anything wrong with this place at all.

Beautiful facility. Independant Living, Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing. Highly skilled staff who are caring and compassionate. This facility is a special place for retired pastors and those in the non profit field of service. Many activities, great dining options and because its location a great connection to community resources in the city of Claremont. Wonderful placement! I highly recommend this placement.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

This is a highly rated non profit CCRC community for retired folks from the clergy or other recognized helping professions (e.g. YWCA). It's a group of like professionals who share a great deal in common and demonstrate an unusual caring for one another. The assisted living section is especially excellent with incredible caring staff. Highly recommended.

I am/was a resident of this facility

We have lived here for ten years. It is an "intentional community," which means that we strive to know each other, to help each other when needed, and to serve our community and our world. We wouldn't live any other place.
