I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My client is in Peterson Park Health Care Center. It's compact. The staff is pleasant, and the social worker has been responsive. The cleanliness seems to be fairly good. There is a community area, but that is not something that my client has been able to utilize at this point. She receives food in her room. I like the attitude that I've experienced from staff. The food is adequate. It varies from time to time. The facilities need to be renewed. The appearance is not great; it's not the worst.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother moved into Peterson Park Health Care Center. They're very caring and patient with my mother. It's a diverse environment, but they're very caring. I've seen that myself because I had a short visit with my mother. They were allowing that even with Covid, and I did see how they were very hands on with her. The nursing facility is very clean, but because of Covid I didn't have an opportunity to see everything. I have only walked through a quick hallway. There were people in it, and it kind of reminded me of a hospital setting. From what I saw, they have a waiting area. Due to Covid, one of the things that I do like is they are doing video calls with the people in there. Before they started opening up from restrictions, they were doing Google Meet and Face time calls, so I did like that because we weren't physically able to see her. Sometimes they still do video conference calls, if families can't come in to see their loved ones. Visits are only 15 minutes, and we have to meet in the dining area because of Covid restrictions, so no one can go to the resident's rooms. I like the fact that it's very secure. They do your screening when you schedule an appointment, when you come in the door, and before you come in. We weren't allowed to go in every place, but it kind of looked like you were on a hospital floor from what I saw. The cafeteria was kind of small, but it was intimate. They had music going. They had a TV. You sit across from your loved one. I like the fact that they were very attentive. During the meeting, they have a nurse or someone sit in. It was really nice to have someone sit with the family member because my mother has dementia, so there were things that she couldn't articulate. They kept asking her questions like, are you OK? How do you feel? Are you comfortable? They were very kind. They're very hands on, and it was clean. They were very hands on with them. There was another family across the way in the dining area, and she was bed-ridden. They were still hands-on asking her if she was comfortable, and they were telling the family to talk to her and engage her; it was very interesting. I just saw a hallway and a back door. The only thing I did was walk down the hallway due to Covid. We couldn't visit the rooms because of Covid. You are going down the hallway and in the dining area, so you couldn't see anything else. They're trying to limit contact. The dining area was clean from what I saw.

I had a pretty bad experience with Peterson Park Health Care Center. They didn't tell us that they had problems with the water. There was no food and no drinking water, and they had only one bathroom for the facility. They had it before my father got there and he was there for eight days. They were careless. Two years ago, they were awesome, but it was pretty bad this time around. The staff needs better training. They were too young and they had no experience. The food was all bad. There was no water, so there was no cooking. They only had sandwiches. They had exercise and therapy on the second floor and it was beautiful.

I am a friend or relative of resident

Peterson Park is always under staff my mother has fallen several times there. She has since been placed in a better facilty since her last fall. The CNA's work so hard the nurses are sometimes rude and the owners are money hungry. The food is not nuturitional at all and they charge so much per month for her stay.

One of the BEST! The staff (including management) are some of the nicest people you could meet. I say this from experiencing and witnessing everything in this review. My mother (Rosemary), was there for an extended stay and my dad (Robert), has been there for over four years and I have visited him on numerous times and varied days. Without exception I have found the staff to be caring and hard at work. The Certified Nursing Assistants and Registered Nurses are exceptional, as are the Housekeeping, Maintenance, and Food Service staff. The Reception staff that oversee the front desk are extremely knowledgeable, professional, and friendly and I have had on occasion to enlist the invaluable help of the Social Services staff and they came through every single time. In general, the entire staff are very patient and kind to the patients and residents and even when extremely busy, they will take time out to help them with their needs or concerns. If their television remote is lost, the staff replace it right away. Its the little things like this that stand out to me as well as the major issues regarding health or insurance that the staff handle equally efficiently. Also, the nurses will call you regarding any issues with your loved ones as soon as possible and at almost any time of the day. The overall atmosphere of Peterson Park is pleasant. Lots of smiles and greetings to staff, patients, and visitors, alike. It is nicely decorated with paintings and a bright color scheme. They have activities for the residents and they actively and enthusiastically encourage participation. They have a secured 2 wing floor for residents with mental disabilities related to aging, complete with physical therapy staffing and equipment for those patients requiring rehabilitation of which both of my parents have received care. I like the quiet neighborhood in which it is located. Its not too far (walking distance) from main transportation lines such as CTA bus routes. It is also near the Edens expressway in Chicago. You hear so much negative press about nursing homes in general but you seldom hear about the nursing homes that get it right. Peterson Park gets it right...and THEN SOME! GREAT JOB! And to the caring staff, I say...Well Done!

I am/was a resident of this facility

As a current resident, I find Peterson Park to be one of the best nursing homes. The people are very caring and attentive. Although there can be some communication issues (most of the RNs are Korean, as are the PT department), I find they all go out of their way to make things comfortable and homey. The only complaint I have is that the quality of the food is a bit dismal. But other than that, the care is great, the administrative personnel are always on top of any issues that arise, and I feel safe being here.

Peterson park Nursing home in Chicago is filthy and dirty.. The residents are left in dity clothes for weeks and I and others have seen this. The place smells like urine. The staff is non caring and when we call our relative they don't put the call threw. They isolate residents from people if the family complains. Neglect caused my family member bed sores and ulcerated areas on the skin. They let them rot in bed or a wheel chair and get no excersize. I am very upset with this place... They seem to hire people who donrt speak English well and that can cause communication problems. I would not recommend this place to a stuffed animal.

I visited this facility

I went to Peterson Park Health Care Ctr because of recommendations when I researched. It was very crowded, very noisy and that was not a positive impression. It was not very clean and just very basic accommodations. The residents were mixed together, the Alzheimer's and dementia residents along with the general care residents. I did not think they had a good nurse-patient ratio, they had too many residents for the staff. The only thing I liked was they tried to separate the different ethnic groups, so they could stay together with the residents that they could communicate with.

I visited this facility

This is a fairly large facility that sits on the main road and backs up to a nice, safe residential area with nice well maintained sidewalks. There is no real outdoor space for residents to utilize, so the safe walking area in the neighborhood is a plus. Inside the building the common areas are recently remodeled and while they are not huge, there are enough common areas interspersed so that residents and families have some choice other than sitting in the room. Both long term care and short term rehab are provided; most residents are long term. Rooms are an average to above average size and are typically clean and well maintained. The hallways are not overly wide, and can get busy and crowded at times. The food is average with some meals appearing appetizing and others not. The staffing is typically adequate though at times there will be a wait to receive needed assistance, as is the case in most facilities. Staff provides kind and competent care, and the turnover rate does not seem excessive. While most of the population is seniors, there are some slightly younger residents as well.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I highly recommend Peterson Park . My mother has been there since June 2010 and the treatment has been outstanding. The staff is caring and very compassionate. This was such a difficult and challenging time since my mother was living in an Assisted Living before then fell went to the hospital and then rehab at a place that did not seem to work with her in understanding her Dementia. My sister and I then moved her to Peterson Park and it has been stress free ever since. We work together as a team to ensure the best care is offered. She has activities, made friends and her overall health has improved by far. We cannot Thank them enough for the time, care and patience they not only have shown our mother but our family also. They treat their residents with respect and dignity. Thank you.
